Amazing tour round the Cartagena’s key Roman sites with an incredibly knowledgable tour guide Alicia: Roman Forum and the recently uncovered Theatre. She brought these ancient sites to life with her enthusiasm. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone, whether you just have a few hours in Cartagena or this tour kicks off your Roman explore of the area.

Our tour guide, Elisa, was wonderful. She was super knowledgeable and friendly. She totally made the tour worth the money. We had a group of eight people. The ruins were amazing, and the little tapas break was great.

    Personable guide

Guide was very personable and knowledgeable about the history and the discovery of the Roman amphitheater and the Forum.

A well-paced walking tour of a fabulously interesting city

    Neil_W, May 2026
This was a fabulous walking tour of an elegant and beautiful city. Our guide Elisa, was superb, full of passion and knowledge of the city and conducted the tour at a perfect pace for everyone to participate. The walking surfaces in the city were very flat and smooth so this tour should not scare off those with mobility issues. There is a fair amount of walking, but the pace is good and the guide can organise easier access into the Roman Theatre, I believe. The break in the middle for tapas and a drink was fabulous too. Highly recommend this tour, especially with Elisa.

    Unsafe

    Ellen_K, May 2026
Lightning and Flooding is dangerous for a 2hr walking tour and it wasn’t canceled. We tried to continue with umbrella's but that made it more dangerous so we canceled. Still have not received a refund.

    Response from Host, Jun 2026

We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we are not allowed to cancel due to weather conditions; the tour took place without a hitch despite the brief rain at the beginning, the cancellation policy only consider tongive a refund when you cancel at least 24 hours before the meeting time.

    Great tour

    Cartagena Walking Tour

    Cynthia_P, May 2026
Our tour guide did a lot of walking and very little commentary except at our stops (and all of the stops could have been completed on our own and informed using the placards at each stop). We did six commentary stops and had a tuna salad tapas at one stop. Clearly we could have completed this tour using the tourism walking map. Definitely NOT worth the price.

So much history! It was a very nice walking tour but our guide appeared to be rather inexperienced. Although Pilar was very nice and spoke good English. She did not take control of the tour and lost 2 people at one point thay we had to go find which diminished the quality of the tour.

    Response from Host, Apr 2026

I'm very sorry to hear you were dissatisfied. We have a support staff member who helps guides locate guests who get separated from the group. In the situation you described, it was less than five minutes—the guests had gone up to the top of the Roman Theater to take a photo—but we'll keep this in mind as we strive to improve. Thank you very much.

    Miss communication

    Vickie_V, Mar 2026
All the signs are the same it is hard to find your group the name of the tour is not in the sign it is hard to hear if you have a tour guide does not speak good english

    Response from Host, Mar 2026

Hello, There were two people, in addition to the five guides, organising the groups themselves; each guide had their own list of clients and all the necessary identification badges. In fact, the tour was due to start at 10:00, and the groups had already been formed and divided up by guide and tour by 9:30. In any case, we have the signs. As there were so few people, we didn’t think it necessary to burden the guides with more items, but we will definitely add them. Thank you very much.

Fun tour with tapas & wine!

    Pam_B, Nov 2025
Pilar was a good guide. She was understandable and kind. She walked very, very slowly. I appreciated her concern for us, but it was really too slow. The commentary was good. The tapa and wine stop was delightful! Delicious and refreshing! The museum was spectacular and very interesting!

    Great value

3 hour tour inc light snack and drink plus museum tour ELISA our guide was great Would recommend …..

Great tour, and guide. Slow and easy pace of walking on 'mostly' flat area compared to other walking tours.

    Clark_S, Aug 2025
This was a very good tour. Our guide Elissa is an outstanding communicator in English and her stories and history were relevant and engaging. This was an easy tour to walk. Only the Roman Theater involved steep steps.

Great site and the perfect guide to inform you.

    Noelle_H, Jul 2025
Our tour guide was an endless font of great information. She knows all aspects of mythology and ancient Greek and, of course, Roman history. Such a lovely woman and so well informed.

    Great town & tour

    Pam_W, May 2025
Getting into the ruins ahead of the line was awesome. The line was very long. Our guide Pablo was very good. A wealth of knowledge and patient with answering questions. I’d recommend this wholeheartedly if you like history!

    A Little Shirt of Expectations

    paul_g, Apr 2025
Tour fell a little short of meeting our expectations. Check in was a little slow and somewhat disorganized. The guide was very knowledgeable but his English was perhaps a little weaker than ideal. The 2nd half was better as we became more accustomed to his accent. Lastly, the tapa tasting was very basic and feel short of expectations. Charge another $5 if necessary and raise the quality of the tasting...

Sorry for that, we Will try to do It better. Thank you for your review!

A Perfect Day in A Perfect Place with the Perfect Guide

    Susan_H, Apr 2025
OMG… today was wonderful. I booked last night from our cruise ship. Our excursions on the boat were too crowded, too long and not fun. We met Elisa (the perfect guide and so knowledgeable) and she 100% catered to our needs and desires. It was the perfect day. I will use Viator and there sightseeing matchmaking again…. Maybe tomorrow.

    Response from Host, Apr 2025

Hi Susan thank you so much for this wonderfull review. People like you is what inspires us to committe for this type of tourism all personalize and well cared . I hope in the future you will have more fullfilling experiences. You are the BEST.

    An Informative and enjoyable tour.

    Rob_E, Nov 2024
This is a walking tour around the roman amphitheatre, museum and related ruins. It is not a difficult walk for anyone with mobility issues as there are ramps. The walk is followed by a tapas and drink. Our guide Camello, whose English is very good, was knowledgeable and made the tour more enjoyable by also pointing out & discussing other points of interest on the tour, for example the Central Grand Hotel. If there is anything I would have liked a little bit more information about it was why the Romans and originally arrived and why they left. But that is a small point and I can look it up. We weren't on a cruise liner but had driven up from the Costa Almeria. It was a really good morning which we thoroughly recommend.

    Response from Host, Feb 2025

Thank you for your review. Don't hesitate to ask the guide anything questions you want, we would be glad to answer all your questions. Almost three thousand years of history is a lot, you have to come back for more! :)

    Needed earphones

    jbyrnes, Sep 2024
Tour should have had audio with earphones. Guide was good but heavily accented. Roman theater was interesting but could have skipped the museum part

    Response from Host, Oct 2024

We are sorry it was not to your complete satisfaction. The museum is included in the entrance fee and we must do it. Thank you for your comment. Best regards.

Cartagena - rich in history and culture

    William_D, Jun 2024
Cartagena is fascinating and this was made clear and obvious by our guide Carmello. He was knowledgable and personable throughout our time with him. As a local resident he shared details and experiences that were helpful to understand the depth of the area's conviction to its history and lifestyle. As first time visitors we are encouraged and determined to visit Cartagena again to gain further insights into its culture and many intriguing aspects.

Thank you very much for your comment. Come back soon!

    Disappointed tourist.

    Gail_D, Apr 2024
We did not get to complete our tour in Cartagena. We went to the meeting point, and there was no one there. I even communicated with Viator the day before and no response. I have disputed this charge.

    Cartagena Roman Antiquities Tour Dissappoints

    Richard_D, Apr 2024
Our guide, Carmelo, was not qualified to lead this tour about Roman antiquities in Cartagena. He would stop at many buildings and structures unrelated to the cities Roman era and expound on them at length. The two important Roman excavation sites are the theatre and baths. He only thought his job was to let us look at them from the outside; erroneously contending over objections that inside entry was not included in our tour. We weren’t scheduled for a restroom stop until the presentation on Roman food and drink 2 hours into the tour. He attempted an unscheduled restroom stop at a small museum at a small Roman excavation site but a loud kerfuffle ensued with the guard when we headed to the restroom. We were forbidden to use the restrooms. When we finally made it to Maria’s Roman food and drink we had a very interesting presentation on Roman dining lifestyle. We also found out that our tour was to include Roman theatre entry and were offered the opportunity to backtrack and tour the theatre museum and excavation. We never determine if entry to the Roman baths was supposed to be part of our tour. All in all one of the worst tours I’ve experienced in 50 years of foreign travel.

Roman Ruins in Cartagena—Don’t Miss Them

    Richard_O, Apr 2024
This tour was the highlight of our brief cruise ship stopover in Cartagena. Before touring the Roman ruins, our guide, Juan, gave us a concise overview of Cartagena’s history that set the stage for what we were about to see. The ruins are as interesting as any we’ve seen elsewhere. Our guide conducted the tour at a good pace-neither too fast, nor too slow. He was easy to understand. And he patiently answered our questions and gave us enough time to take all the pictures we wanted. This was a good tour and worth the money.

    Response from Host, Apr 2024

Thank you so much for such a good review! I hope to see you in Cartagena soon.

    Knowledgeable Soft Talker Fast Walker

    Desi_K, Apr 2024
Our guide was knowledgeable for what we could hear. If you weren't within 5 people of him you couldn't hear. Also competing with Spanish translator which was very distracting. We signed up for an English excursion. Guide shot off like a rocket and walked way too fast not knowing if everyone was following. Guide really had no awareness of the group and it's physical capabilities. Guide needs to get better at projecting and making sure entire group can hear him...even if he needs to repeat it. Example was on the bridge type thing in the Roman Theater. He explained to the people that could fit onto the bridge and then walked off. The rest of us didn't get anything there. He also needs some type of pole with identification along with Viator stickers. There were non excursion people that were tagging along.

    Response from Host, Apr 2024

Thank you very much for your feedback, we have taken good note of your comments and we will use them to improve our service. There were many people visiting Cartagena that day and the group was a bit larger than usual. I hope you liked Cartagena anyway and that you found the tour complete. If you come back to Cartagena do not hesitate to contact us so we can show you better the things you might have missed. Kind regards

Poor English-speaking Guide Made the Experience Difficult

The tour sights were interesting and a valuable expeience. The wine and tapas were enjoyable. Our guise announced at the start of the tour, this was the 1st time he was giving the tour in English. Definately a minus.
