Troy, an ancient city in Turkey, is the legendary setting of the Trojan War in Homer’s Iliad. The actual city dates back to 3500 BC and features seven layers of civilizations. Archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann led excavations in the 19th century, destroying many ruins in pursuit of treasures. In 1998, Troy was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

To reach Troy from Istanbul, you can take a bus, car, or join a guided tour that includes transportation. The journey by road is approximately 5–6 hours. Direct buses run from Istanbul’s main bus terminals to Çanakkale several times throughout the day. From the Çanakkale city center, you have to take a taxi or dolmuş (public minibus) to the archaeological site.
