Masa, our tour guide, is amazing. Great to see Mt Fuji, Hakone ropeway, and the cruise. Although mt Fuji and cruise were short, less than 30-45 mins each, it was well worth it. It was cool to see the volcano area with sulfur. Great tour.

Our tour guide made it fun and educational

Our tour guide was Na-chan and she was excellent! She and the driver were very friendly. I was surprised to learn that she was fairly new to doing this tour. She made sure that those that did not speak English had a device that translates what she was saying. She was very knowledgeable and educated us on how Mount Fuji was formed. She also taught us some basic Japanese phrases and made it fun by testing us later on in the trip. Even though it was a cloudy day, we were able to see the top of Mount Fuji when we got to station five. Overall, it was a great trip and I highly recommend it.

The tour is mostly on the bus. Now our tour guide Aki made the day wonderful and was very pleasant the entire time. The sights and stops were quick. Although being on a bus made we were able to see part of Japan at a slower speed than the trains or by taking a car.

Pays to spend time to organise your own individual trips !

The only trip we booked in a 3 wk Japan stay we did not organise ourselves. Weather was not the best but they still went ahead with the trip. Difficult to find the meet point with google maps putting it inside a tower block, a lot of waiting around to go to the next collection point (a couple found their taxi ride to the first pick up point was wasted as second pick up point around the corner from their hotel). Bus was fine, our guide was the best part of the trip, engaging and informative and did a very good job despite what turned out to be a very bad and rigid itinerary. Mount fugitive was covered in mist and rain so nothing to see, dropped at a sponsored souvenir shop to wait around for the bus to go. Bus went just as it was clearing so very frustrating (inflexible). Cable car to active volcano was a let down, nothing much to see and then expecting the second cable car to take you up to something more impressive, actually took you down the other side for a bus pick up (Pointless). We opted for lunch which was a good buffet with new things to taste and very good ice cream to finish. Then onto the boat (a copy of a European galley like we have the Mathew in Bristol) for a crater lake trip which had nothing interesting as went from one side to the other as the weather improved. Took 6 pictures on the trip. The only beneficial thing was our first experience of the bullet train to get back to Tokyo which set us up for the rest of our long distant train travel. Overall a wasted day, wasted money and on reflection would have been better to hire a car and drive to have the flexibility to enjoy all the interesting things and stop where wanted and not where instructed. I will be forever teased for organising the worst trip of our 3 week stay and for not seeing Mount Fuji up close !

Tour drastically changed enroute to Mt Fuji due to heavy traffic -Mt Fuji visit delayed & lunch stop brought forward to around 11am (very good lunch) but too close to breakfast. Hanoke cablecar ride cancelled & lousy calico bag offered in compensation - tour guide nice but inexperienced - this is definitely not a recommended or value for money experience

We had such high hopes for this tour and unfortunately it was a disaster. What was supposed to be a 2 hour drive to Mt. Fuji ended up being a 5 hour drive in traffic with no water and no bathroom breaks. We were so late to the scheduled activities that they cut all plans for Hakone and rerouted us to a different lake for a 20 minute lake tour on a very low quality boat. Once we finally got to Mt. Fuji late in the day the clouds had rolled in (after a sunny morning). We thought the day was finally over at 5:00pm when we were informed there would be another 2 hour drive back to the train station, which turned into 4 hours again with traffic. We did not return back to Tokyo until 9:30pm. We understand that traffic can be unpredictable, but our tour guide did a very bad job communicating what was happening throughout the day, gave us no indication about the changes in plan, and did not communicate traffic and arrival times. The company has also not issued any kind of apology or refund information. I have traveled extensively and used Viator for booking many many times and this was the worst tour experience I have ever had.

Don’t do it

There was poor communication about transit times. It says 2 hours on the website and then ended up being 5 hours to our first stop. I am 6 months pregnant and there were no bathrooms, no waters, and super overwhelming to have that dropped on us mid-bus ride. We ended up missing every single one of our stops (there were 3), saw no sights, and got zero say in how the day was re-organized. The day ended up being over 12 hours in a bus without any experiences and refused to refund us, even tho there wasn’t communication on the delays due to holidays, traffic etc. Would not recommend at all. The only perk is that our guide Aki was really, really kind and good at her job. It was just the head office that blew it.

Lovely was a wonderful guide, she was very helpful as there were some issues with our tickets from to having to change dates due our previous booking being cancellation based on weather, she is super joyful and enthusiastic and is full of knowledge, whilst the weather was unfortunately not very giving and with limited visibility due to rain and fog giving us a lack luster experience overall it was enjoyable, we enjoyed the free time to explore the areas as we could see the things we wanted to without feeling rushed as long as we were back at the given return time. The lunch was full of verity and was quite pleasant.

From the initial two hour bus ride being extended to five hours, the lunch being absolutely terrible, the Hakone cable car and boat cruise being canceled, arriving at Mt Fuji so late that it was already getting dark, to finally not get back to the Shinkansen until after 9 PM, this entire tour was a bust. Our tour guide was lovely and doing the best with what she was given, but I don’t believe that this tour company did not know our day would be so affected by holiday traffic. I requested a refund and was denied, alternative “compensation“ was offered in the form of a small tin of Japanese candy. We missed our final evening in Japan because of the delays on the tour, I hardly think candy is a fair compensation for the company’s dishonesty.

Shame on the administration of this tour!!!!!

Poorly planned by administration of tour company.The itinerary was not possible during Silver Week. The supposed 2 hour bus ride turned into 5+ hours of bus ride to first venue due to holiday exodus of travelers from Tokyo. All free time and some activities were forfeited. Spent 90% of the 14 1/2 hours of the tour in bus travel. Again, we feel this is due to the tour administrators’ poor planning. Our tour guide did her best to make accommodations. But, we felt sorry for her in this difficult situation. Additionally, the information provided stated we would return to our starting place. We did not. After the bullet train, we needed to take a JR line back to Shinjuku Station which cost us additional money. All in all, we felt this was a totally wasted day and money. It was by far the worst day of our 25 day trip in Japan.

Terrible experience

Unfortunately we were stuck in a 4hr traffic jam, appreciate this was totally outside of the tour operators control however, the tour was adapted which meant we missed out on over 2 parts of the tour, we were relocated to a different lake, they removed the cable cars and took us to 5th station when it became dark. The lunch was stone cold and we stopped there for nearly 50mins a pointless stop. Then we headed to the bullet train and were advised it was only a short ride in the bus, let’s roll on 3hrs and then we finally made the bullet train, which was in the pitch black. The tour guide was lovely and really tried to recover the day however the tour operating company made terrible decisions when changing the itinerary. Not a good experience, requested a partial refund to recover costs of missing the cable cars and it was rejected, not the outcome I expect.

This was an absolutely horrible experience. The vendor failed to mention that there would be significant delays, which they were aware of. This caused everyone in our group to miss other plans we all had latter in the day. If given the option, many would have skipped the entire tour rather than loosing a day of their trip stuck in a hot bus. Once they informed us of the delays, the wouldn’t even give us the option to get out until we were so far away from public transport it didn’t make sense to leave. I can’t stress how much this has been the worst experience I’ve been on with Viator.

Absolutely horrible...

Absolutely horrible experience. We were told it would take two hours to get to our first destination and it took over four hours because of this we had to stop for a 30 minute break for the bus driver as we were told. This is the law afterwards we started with lunch instead of the first activity because we were so far behind in time they never let us know. There was heavy traffic and that we would have so many delays towards the end of it. We were told we would be back to the train station by seven but did not get back until after 9 PM by the time we got back to this train station and took a connecting train to get back to our hotel we did not arrive until nearly 11 PM. If you want to spend a full day sitting on a bus and frustrated this would be the tour. Everyone in the group is requesting a full refund. I would not recommend doing this.

Went up to Mt Fuji 5th station just to the Souvenir store to spent more money & back, did not see the Mt. at all. Lunch was crappy. Hakone Ropeway was cancelled due to lack of time?? Lake Ashi Cruise was announced cancelled due to time & not weather related, Bullet Train was ok. The whole tour was a toss up - head or tails, don't know who wins. Humbly request for a refund. The trip was a total failure. not sure what's the best time to visit. Oregon Mt Hood is way better than this adventure.

Partial Refund Should Be Offered

Weather played a major factor. Although weather is not something these tour companies can control, there is a principle in the matter when the main attraction of the tour is not accessible. They know the weather… and should disclose that visiting the mountain during certain months that the visibility for that mountain can ultimately be a gamble prior to anyone purchasing this tour. Mt Fuji was the highlight and not experienced. And in turn alternative attractions should be available to make up for what can’t be provided. We couldn’t even be taken near it. We never had any direction of where Mt. Fuji was since it was overcast and rainy. We were promised alternatives to the trip but I am not sure if it was a language barrier or miscommunication but we weren’t taken to those additional places in place of Mt Fuji. In the end we were done fairly early. I would say that a tour company should have some consideration if they can’t provide the full experience. In the end we got half the experience and they didn’t make up for it. Even a partial refund should be offered but they denied my request. For that reason I’m rating it low.

Itinerary was good but we thought we’d be able to take pictures at the gate and you only go by it in a boat We had a very foggy day so we should have skipped the cable car and gone up to the shrine because the ground level was clear.

Mount Fuji day trip from Tokyo

Day trip from Tokyo with English speaking guide. Left on bus in the morning, and on our way to Mount Fuji. We were able to see the mountain. First stop was on Mount Fuji, cold and rainy. So we didn’t stay very long. Next stop was a buffet lunch. That was adequate but not great. After that We went on an amazing gondola ride up to the top of a volcano, and then down the other side to a lake where we got on a pirate ship for a Lake Cruise. The lake was beautiful and relaxing. Then we were dropped off at the bullet train Station for a ride back into Tokyo. Overall, great trip. Our guide was very nice and informative.

Terrific tour guide Hiro who was both entertaining and knowledgeable about Japan's history and culture. Lunch was a little cold but plenty of it. We covered a lot but it all went very smoothly
