Be prepared for all weather, you could experience all forms of precipitation while you ride. A warm jumpsuit was provided along with gloves and a riding helmet, but bringing a face cover would be a good idea. It was a great ride and the horses are very kind and gentle. It was a nice ride along the base of the mountains next to a stream. I would definitely recommend.

This was such an amazing experience! It was raining in Reykjavik when the van picked me up (super easy pickup, the van is well marked with their name and driver was on time) but by the time we got to the horse farm, got suited up in our thick, waterproof gear that was provided it had stopped raining and we had a wonderful experience! The young guy who was our guide had so much knowledge and a lot of fun stories about the horses and what it was like growing up in Iceland working with the horses. The Icelandic horses were so wonderful, very sure footed and knew what their job was! Be sure you are able to physically mount and dismount without a mounting block. I had only ever ridden western style but Icelandic riding is kind of a mix between English and western styles so was easy to adjust. One person in my group had never ridden before and a couple of times she needed help so if you aren’t experienced, make sure to stay relaxed in the saddle, keep your heels away from the sides of your horse as you ride (or they may think you want to go faster!) and pull the reins towards you with both hands to stop. About halfway through you will get a break where you dismount in a field, let the horses graze a bit and take lots of beautiful pictures. My first day in Iceland I took this tour and it was the perfect start to my trip! Highly recommend!

My wife and I did this tour came from pick up to drop off. Everything was seamless and our guide guides were amazing. The horses were calm and gentle, and the scenery was breathtaking.

The horses at Laxnes Farm are friendly, beautiful and very healthy. The staff is kind and took us on a beautiful trail. I rode in the advanced group which was fun because we spent most of the time at the Tolt, which is very comfortable! I felt very safe the entire time. Highly recommend!!

I really enjoyed this excursion. The operator picked me up from a downtown bus stop for the ride out to the farm. They did a nice job of matching horses with rider experience and I ended up with a sweetheart of a horse. I'm a novice and I thought I might struggle, but once they helped me up, it was a lot of fun. The ride was longer than I expected, and went through some beautiful countryside. The escorts checked on everyone regularly during the ride. It would have been nice to learn more about the Icelandic horse breed, but the group was about a dozen people, so there wasn't much of a chance for that. I would recommend this excursion to anyone looking for a fun outdoor experience.

The staff is very helpful with both beginners and experts. The two hours walk was comfortable and featured beautiful scenery with green rolling hills and a farm in the distance. The day I went was very cold, rainy, and windy (late Aug). I recommend wearing a warm woolen base layer underneath a rain jacket and water resilient gloves. The farm issues water proof pants. They served hot beverages afterwards. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.

They provide pickup/dropoff. Horses are well mannered & look well cared for. Trail ride is through beautiful scenery to a waterfall & back - about 90 minutes. Geared to riders, non riders with excellent attention to safety & no need for riding gear. Helmet provided. It was such a treat to ride one of these extraordinary horses, & outfitters made sure we had the best possible experience.

Even though it takes 3 hours, the ride is much less time. Three hours is mostly pick up and drop off.

Absolute one of the best experiences you could do in Iceland. The staff here is wonderful and very accommodating. We had absolutely a blast. I would do it again for sure.

The family that runs it is wonderful. The horses are so beautiful and have interesting names and personalities. We were properly fitted for head gear and shown how to get on and off the horse. The guides made sure saddles, reins and stirrups were fitted correctly and taught us how to tell the horse where we want to go. The guides are all wonderful, helping us all through the ride. It was an amazing experience!

It was a family owned horse farm and the owners take great pride in the customers’ experience. It was my favorite tour in Iceland!
Kimberly_H, Aug 2026
The staff/family at the farm are super friendly and helpful!
The ride does not include any discussion/tour guide type interaction. It was super quiet, with beautiful scenery.

Very well organized and I liked that they picked us up at the hotel. Very low stress. I had not been on a horse in many years but I felt safe and well looked after. The scenery was beautiful. Very friendly staff that gave clear instructions.

The weather was perfect so that was a plus. The people were so nice and helpful. Our pickup was right on time. It was a very relaxing ride. I’m not an experienced rider and it wasn’t a problem

Great excursion on a cruise port day in Reykjavik! The farm was gracious enough to accommodate a last minute change on our pick up and drop. The staff at the farm were extremely helpful in determining each rider’s comfort and experience and paring horses accordingly. The horses were great and the trails were beautiful, we enjoyed the scenery. Would highly recommend.

Friendly & helpful staff. It was very windy so a jacket and windbreaker is recommended. Horses were well-behaved

We all really thought it was a very fine experience. At first I was kind of scared but once the guides told me a few basics it felt great. The horses were calm and usually listened, and it was a pretty nice ride with a great view of a lot of mountains.

A wonderful experience from beginning to end! This is a family-owned business that truly goes above and beyond for its guests.
I was picked up directly from the cruise ship terminal and taken to the farm, where the entire staff welcomed us with genuine warmth and hospitality. The ride was fantastic, and it was clear they genuinely care about making sure everyone has a great time.
After the tour, I needed transportation to my hotel instead of returning to the cruise ship. The owner drove me to my hotel without hesitation, which was incredibly accommodating.
I highly recommend this excursion to anyone looking for a memorable experience with outstanding customer service. You won't be disappointed!

The countryside was beautiful, horses were amazing and the staff at Laxnes couldn’t be better. My horse Casper and my husband’s horse Gia were very sweet.

Friendly family and personalized experience. They try to match your experience to the horse. There were 7 people in my group and we got lucky with the weather and got about 2 full hours of riding time enjoying the beautiful Iceland landscape. I had hotel pick up and the process was very easy, good with communication.

All the staff was amazing! The horses were beautiful, the guides great and overall it is a great experience. Highly recommend this!

Horses were very safe. Staff was friendly. They picked us up at our hotel. We had a great time seeing all the beautiful landscape on horseback. Highly recommend this tour if you are a beginner rider as we only walked. They do offer more experienced riders a different ride.

Out of the five different tours I did while traveling around the coast of Iceland I can honestly say this was by far my favorite. It was me and my nine year old daughter. The family that runs the farm were kind and friendly. Made us feel perfectly at home and safe. The horses were beautiful and you could tell how loved they all were. The ride was peaceful and the scenery was breathtaking. If I had another day there I would’ve done it again in a heartbeat.

I love the horses, they each have different wonderful personalities. They picked me up at the nearest bus stop near the hotel. They will text you 2 days to a 1 day before. Be sure to check the pick location since most 3rd party agents like viator or get guide may advertise direct pick up. That from what I know, is rarely true because the bus or van cannot get to a lot of streets where hotels and guesthouses are located. They usually pick up form the list of bus stops nearby and they are all numbered. I would suggest double or triple checking the map earlier especially if you do not have a phone plan that allows you to call easily.
Once you reached the farm, you get a helmet for horse riding and get introduced to the horses. You stepped into their fence area where some horses are introduced. Then they take a bit of time to find the right horse based on your comfortability with horses, your riding experience, your height and weight. They dont really tell you the details though. It is something I observed as I was left alone in the fenced area waiting for my horse. I love my horse. He is beautiful creature and very calm. The only time he went a bit excited is when he sees certain grass fields where we make a stop for them to graze. It is a bit hard for me to get onto the horse but I am 50 years old, and not slim built. Nevertheless, the horse guides are experts in giving you a lift. They do speak English but they dont do a lot of small talks. They concentrate in getting you into the horse and doing the trail hike. The scenery is beautiful and it was a wonderful ride for a 2nd time rider like myself. I enjoyed it very much. There are a lot of small midges in the summer, something I didnt know about as a 1st time traveler to iceland. It never came up in my research. So I would get a face netting, it would have made the experience a lot better. They do get into your nose, ears, and even eyes. But my review for the farm and horse riding 100% positive. I am adding details so the logistics are easier for future travelers. The scenery ia just beautiful..I wish there is even a smaller group so I can build bonds with the horse I am riding and get to know the horse riders and guides. I wouldnt mind paying more to have more time to get to know the owners, feed the horses, and have more time riding. It is a recommended experience. I haven't been on a horse since I was 16 years old and I was thrown off and hurt myself badly. I kept to myself and this ride made me love horse riding again. Icelandic horses are very special. When we get back to the farm from the trail the owners guve treats to the horses and give them a lot of love. They have a little refreshment of water, coffee and some light sweet bakery for us before gathering to drop us back at our original pick up stopsm

They were very kind to this older lady, me, helping me mount and dismount and watching our for our group of older riders.
The horses were well behaved and knew their job well. I never feared for my safety.
The scenery was spectacular and our group felt comfortable in unfamiliar surroundings.
It was a ride to remember.

I was freezing with the wind. I wish I would have brought gloves. I feel like the horrors should have been cared for better. They were caked with mud and needed groomed. Overall, a good experience but I would not do it again. I wish I would have had time to drink a cup of coffee but it was time to leave.
Damien_L, Jul 2026
The owner of the farm personally picks up and drives clients to and from the farm. The farm is very tidy, and you can tell he has great pride in his resources. The only thing I wish is that they had different groups for beginners versus experience writers.
Maggie_Y, Jul 2026
It was a memorable experience for our family. The horses are beautiful and calm. Highly recommend this tour for first -time riders as the friendly staff is always ready to help you get on and off the horse from start to finish. The whole journey was smooth and relaxing with amazing views. Will definitely come back when we visit Iceland again!
