I had a very disappointing experience with Pālehua Trail Rides and wanted to share several serious issues that occurred during our visit. First, the reception and check-in experience was extremely uncomfortable. When I arrived, I felt completely ignored by the front desk staff. The attitude of the staff made me feel unwelcome, and the overall interaction came across as dismissive and unprofessional. As a person of color, the treatment gave the impression that certain customers were not equally welcomed or respected, which was very upsetting. (It's 2026, not 1800 please!) Second, there were clear safety concerns during the ride. One of the horses appeared poorly trained and became difficult to control. During the ride, a member of our group was injured (their finger was cut) because of the horse’s behavior. Even the trainer struggled to control the horse and eventually had to dismount and walk the horse back. This situation did not feel safe for customers. Finally, when we returned from the ride, there was no staff assistance provided to help riders safely dismount from the horses. Customers had to help each other get down. Given the height of the horses and that many guests may not have riding experience, this is a serious safety concern. Overall, the lack of professionalism, the safety issues with the horses, and the absence of basic assistance at the end of the ride made this a very disappointing and concerning experience. I hope the company takes these concerns seriously and works to improve both customer service and safety standards.

    Response from Host, Apr 2026

We take feedback about guest experience and safety very seriously. Our team works hard to provide a welcoming environment for every guest, and discrimination of any kind is not tolerated. We are sorry to hear that you felt uncomfortable during check-in, as that is not the experience we strive to provide. The safety of our guests and horses is our highest priority. All rides are guided by experienced wranglers who monitor the group throughout the tour and step in immediately if a horse or rider requires assistance, including leading a horse when necessary to maintain a safe ride for everyone. We were also concerned to read that an injury occurred, as no injury was reported to management during or after the ride. Our standard procedure is for staff to be present to assist riders when dismounting as part of our safety protocols. We appreciate you sharing your feedback and remain committed to maintaining the high standards of safety and service our guests expect. Mahalo, Pālehua Trail Rides
