Day Trips from Sardinia to Alghero

With its 44,000 inhabitants, it is the 5th largest city of Sardinia. Alghero is the island’s main harbour town, home to Fertilia airport and one of its best-loved cities for the popular walkway along the port’s bastions, the red roofs that touch the sky and the gorgeous natural bay that flows into the emerald sea. The shoreline is some 90 km long and known as the Coral Riviera, home to a major colony of the finest coral. The most famous beach here is Le Bombarde, blessed with crystalline water and a clean sandy bottom, it is a favourite destination of families, young people and surfing enthusiasts.

Explore the scenic villages of Sardinia on a tour of Bosa, Nuraghe Santu Antine, and Tinnura. Immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of these historic places, and enjoy wandering the winding streets taking in the scenery. See churches and grand homes as well as traditional cottages and unspoilt beaches. Visit the countryside and relax in the quiet seaside town of Bosa's Centro storico di Bosa.

Our adventure begins in Alghero, ascending into a more secluded and uninhabited inland area. Along the way, we'll share the contrasts between Alghero and the rest of the island as you take in the breathtaking views of the Gulf of Alghero. We will pause to discuss the native plants of the Mediterranean scrub and their traditional uses. Leaving the main road, we'll venture onto a secondary path traditionally used by local shepherds to navigate between their lands. This journey will lead us to a unique panoramic viewpoint offering a stunning vista of the entire Gulf of Alghero—a sight not to be missed! As we continue, we’ll pass through cork oak forests where you'll learn about cork production. Our next stop is an archaeological park, where you'll dive into the history and culture of the Nuragic civilization. The journey takes us back along the coast, providing an opportunity to spot and admire griffon vultures, the majestic lords of the wind. Before heading back, we'll make a final stop at a nearby beach to enjoy a typical Sardinian aperitif featuring local delicacies.

With this tour, skip the hassle of driving and instead reach the Santa Cristina Nuragic site via coach. Tour the well temple, meeting hut, and other prehistoric dwellings with a guide for insights into their history and architecture, and stop at the Giovanni Marongiu Civic Museum in Cabras to view the Giants of Mont’e Prama.

Go underground and explore the Cave of Neptune with this day trip tour from Cagliari. Leave the driving to your guide and soak up the views of the Sardinian countryside as you travel to the cliffside of Capo Caccia. Climb down the 660 steps of Cabirol’s stairs to reach the caves for a walking tour. This itinerary can also include a boat tour.

A huge naturalistic, environmental, architectural and cultural-historical heritage that from the city, entering the hinterland and along the coast, rich in inlets and beaches, reaches the geo-site of Capo Caccia, famous for the spectacular belvedere of the Foradada from which unique and evocative itineraries depart for enthusiasts and visitors of all ages. A true open-air environmental museum, a dynamic ecomuseum that can be visited in different and personalized ways following the expectations of those who want to venture and dive inside a protected territory rich in a multi-thousand-year history: from the evidence of the Neolithic, to the Nuragic civilization, to that of the Roman Empire, to the history of foreign dominations, to the evidence of World War II, to the present day. You will spend the day within a naturalistic area that holds a cultural and historical heritage waiting to be discovered.

A catamaran excursion departing from Stintino to discover the crystal clear waters of the Gulf of Asinara, in the far north west of Sardinia. Fun, relaxation, snorkeling, diving and a stop on land on Asinara Island will be the ingredients for a day to immortalize and share with friends and family. You will admire dream places and at lunchtime will be served delicious local meals, such as a typical Sardinian aperitif and a first fish. Strong emotions from the beginning until the end of the evening, with the setting of the wild nature of the Gulf of Asinara.

Swap land-based sightseeing in Alghero for an exciting small-group catamaran adventure on the water. Cruise through the protected marine area of Capo Caccia Isola Piana, with time to stop and swim along the way. Masks and fins are provided for snorkeling, and a freshly prepared lunch is served onboard, ensuring a relaxed and hassle-free day at sea.

Sardinia’s picturesque western coves and coasts are best admired from the sea, but on larger, more crowded boats, it’s easy to spend more time competing with other passengers for views than taking in the scenery. Treat yourself to a relaxing and streamlined experience on this full-day, small-group catamaran cruise. Spend the day swimming and snorkeling in crystal-clear water or relaxing on deck, with both sunny and shaded areas available.

Discover Sardinia's ancient mysteries and Caribbean-rivaling beaches with our self-guided audio tour, allowing you to explore Italy's most distinctive island at your own pace. Begin on the Costa Smeralda where emerald waters lap against pink granite beaches and attract the world's yachts to Porto Cervo's glamorous harbor. Wander through the streets of Alghero where Catalan heritage survives in the language, architecture, and the coral jewelry that has been crafted here for centuries. Explore the prehistoric nuraghi scattered across the island. Discover the beauty of the Supramonte where gorges, ancient forests, and shepherd culture preserve a Sardinia unchanged by tourism. Climb to the hilltop town of Castelsardo where basket weavers continue traditions and the fortress provides views across to Corsica. Experience Cagliari's history from Phoenician to Aragonese in the capital's atmospheric Castello district and lively waterfront marina. Swim in the impossibly clear waters of Cala Luna.

The excursion is an overland experience designed as an authentic alternative to classic boat trips, ideal even when weather and sea conditions are not favorable. In a single tour we combine archaeology, history, panoramic trekking in the Porto Conte Park and Sardinian cuisine. To make the experience special is lunch in a real home restaurant in the Alghero countryside: not a traditional farmhouse, but a private house where a local couple welcomes guests, offers traditional dishes and Guides a pasta workshop to prepare seadas.

What makes our tour special is our flexible itinerary. Rather than following a fixed route, we choose the two most beautiful bays based on the day's weather and sea conditions, ensuring the best possible experience. Enjoy crystal-clear turquoise waters, plenty of time to swim and relax, and a delicious meal served on board in a peaceful, breathtaking setting.

Alghero—home to one of the largest red coral supplies in the Mediterranean—is known for its excellent snorkeling opportunities, but spending the day getting jostled by waves on a boat isn’t every traveler’s idea of a good time.
