The Valley of the Nuns (Curral da Freiras) might be one of the coolest places you can visit in all of Portugal—and this tour makes it easy to explore the area. Not only is it a village built on the crater of an extinct volcano, but it was once a place where nuns would hide when pirates attacked the city of Funchal. Plus, during this tour, you’ll stop by the fishing village, Câmara de Lobos, and try a traditional Madeira drink.

At Salatia Yachts, you can rent your own jet ski and explore the stunning waters of Madeira Island. With capacity for up to three people, it is mandatory that at least one of the occupants possesses a valid navigation license to operate vessels in the region. With total freedom to set your own pace, you can enjoy the unique landscapes of Ponta de São Lourenço and the south coast of the island. If weather conditions allow, it is also possible to appreciate the beauty of the north coast from the sea. This activity is indicated for all travelers who have a navigation card and know how to swim. However, for safety reasons, it is not recommended for people with serious health problems, especially conditions related to back, legs, neck or for pregnant women.

Funchal becomes the crime scene in this self-guided detective game, where the clues are hidden in plain sight in the streets around you. The case is the murder of Balthasar, and the evidence is scattered across the old centre - past Sé Catedral do Funchal, Parque de Santa Catarina, Igreja do Colégio and Quinta das Cruzes Museum. You decode messages, photograph what does not add up and press digital witnesses whose stories never quite line up. Every puzzle you crack removes a name from the list of suspects. Play as a couple, bring the children along, or send two or three teams out at the same time and turn the investigation into a race - which is what makes this murder mystery game work as well for a team outing as for a day out. The last answer is waiting somewhere in the centre of Funchal.
