The guides were great! Lots of fun. Need to be in good shape to kayak through the mangroves. Everyone throws a big tarp over their heads to really see the bioluminescence because the light pollution from Fajardo makes it hard, but we also saw some as we were kayaking back.

Truly a fun experience! Felix, Onyx, and Emmanuel did such a good job!! Not only did they told us how to kayak but we even got to see of the Bioluminescence in the off season!

Thank you for the awesome review! 🌊✨
We’re so happy to hear you had such a fun experience and that Felix, Onyx, and Emmanuel took great care of your group. Teaching guests how to kayak while keeping the experience fun and enjoyable is exactly what our team strives for.
And getting to see bioluminescence during the off-season makes the adventure even more special! 🌌🚣♂️
We truly appreciate you joining us and hope to see you again for another unforgettable night on the water! 🙌

Be informed, April is worst month for bioluminescence. Wish we were told that ahead of time.
We arrived at 5:15 as requested time for a 6:00-8:00 activity. No one was there until 6:05. Then we were told it would start at 6:30. The whole place reeked of rotting seaweed which suffocates the organisms and greatly reduces the bioluminescence. Guide was a nice guy but safety instructions and their photos were taken alongside the rotting seaweed. I was gonna gag. There are warnings about toxic effects of sunscreen and bug spray to the organisms but we were waded out to the kayaks washing off our bug spray and sunscreen into the water. Kayak experience was fun and interesting especially in the dark if you’re up for that. You will get wet, and dirty and DO NOT wear nice sneakers but good water/reef shoes. We saw virtually NO bioluminescence at all. I mean zero and that was after they dropped a wet smelly tarp over us to try to darken things even more. Didn’t help one bit. Will try this again some other time but not near Fajardo and certainly not in March-May.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We’re glad to hear you still found the kayaking portion fun and appreciated your guide.
That said, we do want to clarify a few important points:
- Bioluminescence conditions: This is a natural phenomenon that can vary significantly depending on factors like rainfall, water temperature, moon phase, and environmental conditions such as seaweed (sargassum). While certain times of year may present more challenges, these conditions are not fixed or guaranteed, which is why no operator can promise visibility on any specific date.
- Sargassum (seaweed): The presence of seaweed and its odor is a natural and seasonal occurrence across many coastal areas of Puerto Rico, including Laguna Grande. This is outside of any tour operator’s control and can impact water clarity and bioluminescence visibility.
- Start time & check-in: We ask guests to arrive early to ensure proper check-in and group coordination. Delays can occasionally occur due to conditions on the water or previous groups returning, but we understand how frustrating that can feel and will review this internally.
- Environmental guidance: The recommendations regarding sunscreen and bug spray are meant to minimize impact, though entering the water is part of launching the kayaks and is standard for this type of experience.
We understand your disappointment in not seeing the bioluminescence, as that is a key expectation for many guests. However, this aspect of the tour is entirely dependent on nature, and conditions can change from day to day.
We do appreciate your balanced feedback and are glad you’re open to trying the experience again under different conditions.

You will walk into stinky water, it may be as deep as or deeper than your waist. Plan accordingly. If you do the 8pm tour there is no lighting (although a passing tour guide may temporarily light the way),and you will be navigating under mangrove trees through current. There is two way traffic including kayaks and motor boats, while through narrow passage. Make sure you can paddle 3 miles, have great communication with your partner! You will be smacked by other kayakers, you will get pushed into mangroves and you may get injured. The bioluminescence was significantly over-dated and huddling under a tarp was wet and slightly gross. Although we had a good laugh, we were lucky to have had a change of clothes and good spirits. I would probably have given a better rating had, at any point, someone said that the way into the kayaks was as deep as it was. Granted we could have arrived wearing suits, most folk in our group (of 30, not 12 like the site says there will be) did not and the general consensus was shock and minor upset.

Thank you for your feedback. We do want to clarify several important points, as the experience you described is accurately outlined in our tour description and pre-tour instructions.
Water entry & conditions: Guests are clearly advised in advance that entry into the water can be waist-deep or higher, and to arrive prepared with appropriate clothing.
Night conditions: The 8:00 PM tour is specifically a nighttime kayaking experience, which naturally involves low-light conditions as part of the adventure.
Physical requirements: We state that participants should be capable of paddling approximately 3 miles and navigating through mangroves with currents and shared waterways.
Group dynamics: While we aim for smaller groups, conditions at the launch area may involve multiple groups and operators in the same water channels, which can create the traffic you described and is outside of any one company’s control.
Bioluminescence visibility: As noted, this is a natural phenomenon that varies depending on environmental factors. The tarp method is commonly used to enhance visibility when conditions are less intense.
It’s important to point out that many of the concerns mentioned were not unexpected elements, but rather core aspects of the experience that are disclosed beforehand so guests can decide if it’s the right fit for them.
That said, we do appreciate your feedback and understand that this type of adventure may not be for everyone. For guests seeking a more relaxed or less physically demanding experience, we typically recommend alternative tours that better match those expectations.
We’re glad you were able to keep a positive attitude and make the most of the experience, even if it didn’t fully meet your preferences.

We did this trip yesterday and I have to say the bioluminescence was rather underwhelming. The photos made it look like we would see it while paddling. They had us put a giant tarp over our heads in order to see it. The kayaking was fun, but definitely need to be able to do 3 miles. Also, they said they would post pictures of everyone. The photos they posted were very blurry, my family has a good laugh at them after the long night.
I would say our guides did a good job.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the kayaking and that our guides took good care of you throughout the tour.
We do want to clarify that bioluminescence is a natural phenomenon and can vary greatly depending on moon phase, weather, and water conditions. For that reason, visibility is not always as bright as photos may suggest. The tarp technique is commonly used to create darkness and help enhance the glow when conditions are less optimal, and this is noted as part of the experience.
You’re absolutely right that the tour requires a moderate level of physical effort, and we appreciate you pointing that out for future guests.
Regarding the photos, we’re sorry they didn’t meet your expectations. Night conditions and movement on the water can make capturing clear images challenging, but we’ll definitely review this with our team to continue improving.
We appreciate your balanced feedback and are glad you still had a good time overall. We hope to welcome you back under brighter bioluminescent conditions in the future! 🌊✨

Thank you so much for your wonderful review!
We’re thrilled to hear you had such a fantastic and unique experience with us. It means a lot to know our guides helped make your time special, and even more so that you were able to create meaningful moments and memories with your daughter—that’s what it’s all about.
We truly appreciate you sharing this and hope to welcome you both back for another unforgettable adventure soon! 💚

This can be a great adventure, but there are some things that would have been helpful to manage expectations.
We did the 8:00 pm tour in mid March. I thought the kayaks through mangroves was a great adventure! The others in my group felt unsafe as you genuinely could not tell if you were headed straight into the hard mangroves or were going to get your eye poked. My 8 year old cried a lot.
This tour company had friendly guides. This tour company also had the most notably dim lights (others kayaks were much brighter and well marked). The dim lights on our kayaks made it more challenging to keep tabs on kayaks in front of you and awareness of where sides of mangroves were.
The bioluminescence was what I was most excited about for my kids to see. (Ages 17,15,13,8). It was neat and the bay itself was beautiful. But the bioluminescence didn’t look anything like the pictures. If you know that ahead of time, you can avoid disappointment. It looked like bubbles in a pool with a light on at night. Also, the tarps they use to try and make it darker were damp and sandy and did not enhance the experience.
The stars the guides pointed out in bay were the best part. We enjoyed that!
One more note - the directions say to wear something that could get wet. It did not specify that you are walking in waste deep water to reach the kayaks. Had I known that - I could have better prepared my youngest. It was a little spooky. Choppy ocean water at night and you start off the ride soaked from waste down. Again - not a deal breaker but could have helped manage expectations.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review. We truly appreciate your perspective—it helps us improve and better prepare future guests.
We’re really glad to hear that you found the mangrove portion adventurous and that our guides were friendly, and it’s wonderful that the stargazing in the bay stood out as a highlight for your family.
That said, we’re very sorry to hear that parts of the experience felt uncomfortable and didn’t meet expectations—especially for your youngest. Navigating the mangroves at night can feel more intense than some guests anticipate, and your feedback about visibility and kayak lighting is especially helpful. We take safety seriously, and we’ll be reviewing this internally to ensure our lighting and group visibility meet the highest standards.
We also appreciate your honest comments about the bioluminescence. It’s a natural phenomenon that can vary depending on conditions, and you’re absolutely right that setting clear expectations—especially compared to photos—is important. Your note about the tarps and how they impacted the experience is also something we’ll take into consideration.
Lastly, thank you for pointing out the need for clearer communication about entering the water at the start of the tour. That’s valuable feedback, and we can see how better preparation—especially with children—would make a big difference.
We’re grateful you highlighted both the positives and the areas for improvement. Feedback like yours helps us create a safer, more transparent, and more enjoyable experience for all guests.

It was a great tour. This is not for all experience levels even though it’s advertised that way. Other than that it’s a great adventure.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for sharing your experience—we’re glad to hear you had a great adventure overall!
We do want to clarify that while the tour is designed to be enjoyable for a wide range of guests, it is also an active and physically engaging experience, especially when kayaking through the mangroves at night. For that reason, we provide guidance in advance so guests can decide if it’s the right fit for their comfort level.
Nothing in the tour experience itself was reduced or limited, and it’s unfortunate that this resulted in a lower rating, as many guests who come prepared for the physical aspect consider it a five-star experience. We truly appreciate you joining us and hope to welcome you back for another adventure! 🌊✨

Unfortunately your lead instructor did a terrible job keeping our party together. As you know this trip has had its challenges. He easily could have kept my daughter 16 and my wife with my boat who was put with another single rider. I’m not a complainer but I do speak up when efforts are not made to accommodate a paying customer.
Response from Host, Mar 2026
Thank you for sharing your concerns. We’re sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations.
As noted in the tour description and pre-tour information, keeping uneven parties in the same kayak cannot always be guaranteed. Pairings are determined by several operational factors including group size, weight balance, safety considerations, and the need to maintain an even number of riders for double kayaks. For that reason, guides sometimes need to place guests with other participants to ensure the group can depart safely and efficiently.
Our guides always do their best to accommodate families whenever possible, but during busy departures or when group numbers are uneven, it may not be feasible to keep every party together without delaying the entire tour or affecting safety logistics.
That said, we truly value your feedback and will review this with our team to ensure we continue making every reasonable effort to accommodate families when conditions allow. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and thank you for joining us.

Thank you for sharing your experience! We’re really glad you had a fun time and enjoyed our guides—they’ll love hearing that. 😊
You’re absolutely right: kayaking through the mangroves can be physically demanding, so being in decent shape definitely helps. We also appreciate you mentioning the tarp technique. Due to light pollution from Fajardo, creating darkness with the tarp allows guests to better appreciate the bioluminescence, and we’re happy to hear you were still able to see it naturally while kayaking back as well.
Thanks again for joining us and for leaving such helpful feedback—we hope to paddle with you again in the future! 🌊✨

Fantastic experience but viator charges twice as much and sent us to the wrong facility with the wrong name of the company (tickets said eco adventures kayaking and it was actually puerto rico eco tour! Both companies in the same parking lot but opposite ends of the strip) and had the wrong time. So thankful that the place called us prior. We booked for 8:30, the tour started at 7:30! We were already in the area shopping and equally grateful for that as well! Don't use viator. Book through the actual company. It would've been literally half the cost...

Thank you for sharing your experience and for the kind words about the tour itself — we’re really glad everything worked out and that you were able to enjoy the experience!
We’re happy our team was able to reach out ahead of time and get everything sorted so your day wasn’t impacted. Thank you again for your understanding and for trusting us — we’d love to welcome you back anytime!

It was a fun kayak ride to the bay to see the bioluminescence in the bay. Tour guides were great. Best to see when it’s a new moon. They provide a tarp to put over your head to see it. You need to be under 225lbs to ride so start dieting now. Luckily we all made the cut. Also make sure to bring flip flops or water shoes. Kayaking experience is useful but not required as many folks were paddling into the mangroves.

Thank you for joining us and for sharing such a fun and detailed review! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the kayak ride and the bioluminescent bay—experiencing that glow under the new moon truly is something special. Our team will be happy to know their guidance helped make the night memorable!
We also appreciate you highlighting helpful tips for future guests, like weight requirements, footwear, and the optional convenience of prior kayaking experience (those mangroves do like to keep things interesting!).
Thanks again for choosing us—hope to see you back for another magical night on the water! 🌙✨🚣♂️
