A Hidden Gem for Vegetarians & Vegan Travelers in Tokyo

      Shilpa_S, Jul 2026
A Hidden Gem for Vegetarian & Vegan Travelers in Tokyo ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As a lifelong vegetarian, finding authentic culinary experiences while traveling can be a challenge — sushi in particular always felt off the table. So on my first trip to Japan, I was thrilled to discover this vegan sushi class in Tokyo, and it ended up being one of the highlights of the entire trip. Rei and Shie welcomed us into their lovely home, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of central Tokyo, which gave the whole experience a warm, personal feel rather than a typical touristy class. Before we even picked up a knife, they shared the history of sushi in Japan, giving us wonderful context and appreciation for the tradition behind what we were about to make. We learned to make five different types of sushi, all completely plant-based, and I was amazed at how creative and delicious the alternatives were. Rei and Shie were patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely delightful to spend part of our vacation with — it felt less like a class and more like being hosted by old friends. If you're vegan, vegetarian, or simply looking for a meaningful cultural experience through food, this class is an absolute must. Highly recommend for any traveler wanting to go beyond the usual tourist spots and connect with Japanese culture in a thoughtful, delicious way.

      Best ever Sushi experience!✨

      Haruna_I, Jul 2025
A very engaging and interesting sushi course.👏 Not only did we learn how to make sushi with traditional tools, but we also learned about the history of Sushi and how it has changed over the centuries and developed in different regions. Sushi is truly diverse, and the course did a good job at highlighting that. And of course, the sushi we made was delicious, probably the best sushi we’ve ever had. Rei and Chie are genuinely open minded, kind and warm people. It was a joy being instructed by them. It was a safe space to learn and be curious in. We loved their focus on mutual understanding and communication through sushi making. They have a very interesting perspective on how food culture has adapted to changing circumstances, such as technological developments and modern people’s needs. They also gave us tips for making sushi in our home country, such as what ingredients and tools we can use to adapt the sushi to our local conditions. Highly recommend this sushi making experience! 😊

Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous review. We’re truly honored that you enjoyed not only the sushi you made (which looked amazing!) but also the stories behind it — how sushi has traveled through time, cultures, and evolving lifestyles. Your openness and curiosity made the experience just as meaningful for us. At the heart of our class is the belief that food is a form of communication — a way to build bridges across backgrounds and perspectives. We’re so glad it resonated with you. We hope the tips help you in your kitchen back home. There’s no “wrong” sushi — only creative versions adapted to your own life happy. We’d be delighted to welcome you back anytime! 🍣🌿 Warmest regards,
