The tour departs from the cruise terminal in the direction of Savoca (approximately 40 minutes by road). Savoca is the town where the film The Godfather was filmed. We will see all the most iconic places such as the Vitelli bar and the cathedral where Michael Corleone got married. After about an hour we leave to go to Castelmola (about 30 minutes from Savoca). Castelmola is a small village on the top of Taormina with a wonderful view of Mount Etna. After about an hour we move to Taormina, one of the most beautiful cities in Italy, reachable only on foot and full of shops and restaurants. After about 2 or 3 hours we return to Messina, but not before a nice panoramic tour of Isola Bella. We very much enjoy the day. Corrado our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable about the volcanic eruptions and the aftermath it left. We were able to explore an underground volcanic cave as well as walk up a volcanic crater. It was awesome. Lunch at the winery at the end of the day was very enjoyable. We would recommend this tour.

Highly recommend!

We had an amazing experience with Michael! He was a super safe driver and very knowledgeable and informative. His English was excellent. We did not feel rushed during any part of the tour and got to buy some wine, honey, pesto and olive oil. He recommended us to try Arancini and focaccia which was very delicious. Absolutely amazing!! Chiara met us right at the dock and took her time explaining everything about her beautiful city telling us the rich history and ensuring we saw all the main highlights, especially the 12 noon astronomical clock presentation. She even ensured we had a spot in the shade. While I was filming she was explaining everything level as it played and I got it all on my phone. The trip and tour of the puppet museum and meeting the owners was stunning. She took us to a small shop for our last spot and we enjoyed some flavorful granita!! So refreshing especially since it was 73 degrees outside. She also took time to point us to some great places to eat and to shop. As we were walking around we turned down a street and I pointed out to my husband the Discover Messina business and she was there. Her boss called us over and we were able to meet him and thank him for his great guide. He gave us a great souvenir of the area - yummy!! It was an easy walk for those who might be concerned with mobility issues.

Best tour on Sicily

10/13/25 - This tour was fabulous! Castelmola and Taormina were incredibly beautiful! Our tour guide, Sam, was fun and knowledgeable. He even stayed around after returning to Messina to take those of us that wanted to go to the main square and told us all about the astronomical clock and cathedral.
