The Shaolin experience!
This was a fantastic day, we visited the Shaolin temple in the morning and were delighted with the kung fu performance. Our guide was brilliant. She assisted us with better seating and was happy to go at our pace.. the Longman caves in the afternoon were amazing and even though it was a very long day, everything was thoroughly enjoyable. We would highly recommend her and the tour.

Complete no-hazzle trip
Perfect package! Pick-up at the hotel, train tickets, meet your guide at the arrival train station and go. Nice tour of the Shaolin temple, including a visit to Songyang academy. Kung Fu show a needed highlight, ending with the Pagoda forest. After everything safely dropped off at the hotel again. Thanks to our guide Jack who was very friendly and knowledgeable!

Nice tour. Our guide was...
Nice tour. Our guide was very informative about the history and sites we visited. Very well organized, friendly, and engaging in conversation. The only negative was the cost of $400 for two people, I felt like that was expensive for the tour we received. Other than the price the tour was very enjoyable

wonderful day in one of Chinas ancient capitals
Really helpful and proffessional guide.I could exchange some money and I could learn more about the history of two world famous monuments in one day. As usual the chinese are more centered in eating lunch than letting you visit the actual monuments,so you must kindly remind them that you have paid so much money for visiting and not for eating.

Cindy! The very best tour Guide ever!!!
Cindy is the very best Guide I have ever had in any tour!!! She was so nice, patient and simply a joy to be with! She paid close attention to all of my wishes and made sure nothing was missed and it’s obvious she loves her job! If anyone that I know would be interested in this tour, I would very highly recommend Cindy!

Perfect Shaolin Experience
What an incredible day. The tour company planned everything perfectly from hotel collection until my return travelling by super fast bullet train to the Shaolin Temple.
I had plenty of time (4.5hrs) to explore the temple, the pagoda Forrest and mountain to get a real feel for the place. This include time with the guide and space to wander alone with my thoughts.
Highly recommend this tour.

We had this experience...
We had this experience during the Qing Ming celebration so we encountered a lot of traffic and the places were overcrowded, but our guide Yuefeng was great! He has been an excellent driver and he knows his way around those places saving us a lot of time and bringing us to the most important places. He also gave us a lot of explanations during the trip. I definitely recommend this trip, would have been extremely complicated doing everything with public transports.

Guide was thorough in...
Guide was thorough in explaining the history of Longmen Grottoes and Shaolin Temple. Driver was adept at making adjustments based on road closures. The actual destinations were a bit too commercialised (Shaolin) and crowded (Longmen) for the experience to actually be enjoyable. Would also recommend for the tour to be extended to two days and include a trip up Songshan - seems a bit of a shame to travel all the way to Luoyang and not see that amazing view

People Also Ask
Is the Shaolin Temple worth it?
It depends. For kung fu fans, seeing the place where the Shaolin Monks perfected their spectacular art form is unmissable. However, history buffs may find the crowds of selfie-takers oppressive, particularly given that much of the temple burned down in 1928 and has been relatively recently rebuilt.
Why do people go to the Shaolin Temple?
The Shaolin Temple is known for two things: It’s the home of Shaolin kung fu and where Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism, spent many years. Today, however, almost everyone visits to see the Shaolin Monks in action on their home turf.
Can tourists visit the Shaolin Temple?
Yes, tourists can visit the Shaolin Temple—male and female, foreign and local alike. The monks even put on regular kung fu performances for their tourist audience. The temple is in Dengfeng, between Luoyang and Zhengzhou, so most travelers visit from one of the two cities.
How much does it cost to go to the Shaolin Temple?
The admission fee for the Shaolin Temple complex is 80 RMB. The Dengfeng railway station is still under construction, so most travelers visit by road from either Luoyang or Zhengzhou. Tours from Luoyang generally include the Longmen Grottoes UNESCO World Heritage Site and cost around US$100.
Can foreigners train at the Shaolin Temple?
The Shaolin Temple operates a kung fu school next to the temple, known as the Song Mountain Kung Fu School. Foreigners can apply to study here under masters who have taught at the temple, but it’s almost impossible for a foreigner to become a Shaolin monk and practice there.
Does the Shaolin Temple have a dress code?
No, the Shaolin Temple does not have a formal dress code. However, it is a working monastery, so respectful dress is appropriate. All genders should wear clothes that cover shoulders, chest, belly, and upper legs—and comfortable shoes as there’s a lot of walking involved.
