Experience authentic sumo training, learn from former rikishi, and take on the challenge! Step into the dohyō with former professional rikishi for a small-group experience focused on training, etiquette, techniques, and a match. During this approximately 70-minute session, practice shiko, matawari, tachiai, butsukari-geiko, basic techniques, and traditional etiquette including sonkyo, chiri-chozu, bowing, and match procedures. Every participant will challenge a former professional rikishi in a sumo match. Participants do not wrestle against each other. The experience is held on a specially designed full-size mat-based dohyō and is limited to 15 participants. Family and friends can join as spectators for ¥3,500 per person, including a drink and popcorn. Children aged 12 and under attend free. Spectators may also have the chance to join as a gyoji or yobidashi! The program is open to first-time visitors and guests who have already watched sumo or visited other sumo attractions.

Most Nara tours only stop at the Great Buddha and take a few photos with the deer. This tour is different. You will visit Todai-ji, Nigatsu-do, Kasuga Taisha, and the quiet streets of Naramachi — all in one walk. Your local guide will explain the history and culture at each place, not just the famous parts. This tour also has a special part: your guide teaches simple, useful Japanese phrases as you walk. It's more than just visiting temples. It's a good tour for travelers who want to really understand Nara — not just take photos of deer.
