It starts with the sound of ice in the glass, the freshness of citrus, and your first sip of a Portonic — light, refreshing, and unexpected! Combining a Portonic cocktail with a Pastéis de Nata baking class creates a unique experience in Portugal — where tradition meets fun in a relaxed way. As the class unfolds, the atmosphere shifts from the clink of glasses to the smell of buttery pastry in the oven. Hands in the dough, conversations around the table, and that quiet anticipation as everything comes together. And then, the moment everyone waits for — your Pastéis de Nata, fresh out of the oven. Golden, warm, slightly caramelised on top. Where else have you ever tried Pastéis de Nata this fresh? They taste different when you’ve made them yourself. Better, somehow. By the end, it’s not just about what you’ve learned — it’s the feeling of having created something from scratch, shared the experience, and knowing you can do it again at home.

Close your eyes and imagine the Algarve: the scent of the sea, the vibrant colours of the fish market, the aroma of garlic sizzling in olive oil and laughter around a shared table. Our experience takes you beyond a cooking class and into the heart of Algarve culture. Meet the people behind our ingredients, discover the stories of Portuguese cuisine and learn to prepare Seafood Cataplana, one of the region's most treasured dishes. As the Cataplana cooks, its wonderful aromas fill our kitchen. A glass of Algarve wine, freshly prepared food and new friendships await around our shared table. And our secret ingredient? Connection. The connection between food and tradition, between locals and travellers, and between strangers who arrive from different corners of the world and leave with shared memories. At The Kitchen, we believe the most memorable experiences aren't just about what you eat. They're about the people you meet, the stories you share and the way a place makes you feel.

What makes this experience special? These aren’t recipes created for tourists — they come from a real Portuguese family kitchen. Inspired by Avó Lurdes, grandmother of The Kitchen’s founder, Joana, this class celebrates home, family, warmth and generosity. These recipes have been shared around our family table for generations. You’ll discover Portuguese cuisine beyond restaurant menus, including comforting dishes that families cook at home but visitors rarely have the opportunity to taste. Dessert carries a piece of family history: Avó Lurdes’ original handwritten Chocolate Salami recipe is proudly framed in The Kitchen. Around our shared table, food is accompanied by Portuguese wines carefully selected to pair beautifully with the dishes. This isn’t about fine dining or complicated techniques. It’s about discovering Portugal through the food we grew up with and something at the heart of our culture: welcoming people, feeding them well and bringing everyone together around the table.

What makes this tour unique is its personal and immersive nature. You explore a local market with insider tips, then visit a private country home for a hands-on cooking experience. Rather than a typical tour, it feels like visiting a friend—cooking, sharing a traditional meal with local wine, and enjoying a relaxed, authentic atmosphere. You also leave with recipes and skills to recreate the experience at home.

At The Kitchen, our goal is to provide a truly authentic experience. We want you to connect with Portuguese culture, understand our culinary traditions, and leave with the confidence to recreate these dishes in your own kitchen. Each recipe has been carefully chosen for its authenticity and ease, ensuring you can impress your friends and family with a taste of Portugal at home.

If you’re curious about Portuguese food and want to go beyond restaurants, this is your chance to get hands-on and learn how to make one of the country’s most iconic dishes from scratch. Instead of just tasting a bifana, you’ll understand what makes it so special — and how to recreate it at home. Along the way, you’ll cook other traditional dishes, enjoy good wine and beer, and experience the relaxed, social side of Portuguese culture — the kind that happens around the table, with simple food done really well. It’s a fun, informal experience where you’ll cook, eat, laugh, and connect — and leave with new skills, great memories, and the confidence to bring a true taste of Portugal into your own kitchen.
