Itineraries for Your Trip to Montego Bay
3 Days in Montego Bay for First Timers
The first time I visited Montego Bay, I spent about three days in the city, dividing my time between local attractions and spots that are within an easy day trip away. It was just enough time for me to explore some of the places I was most excited about, from the Luminous Lagoon—famous for its bioluminescent waters—to the Rose Hall Great House, a historic home that’s allegedly haunted by a former owner. I didn’t feel rushed at all, but I was still able to see everything I planned to. Here’s how you can make the most of three days in Montego Bay.
If you only have time for one thing, make it the Luminous Lagoon.
Be prepared for rain, especially between May and October.
Spend your first day getting to know Montego Bay and its top attractions. Stroll along the Hip Strip or take in views of the Caribbean Sea from the white sands at Doctor’s Cave Beach. You can explore independently or join a sightseeing tour to learn about the city from your guide.
In the evening, make a trip to the Rose Hall Great House, an allegedly haunted mansion that’s particularly eerie after dark. It’s a bit of a drive from Montego Bay, so opt for a ghost tour that includes transportation to make getting there easy.
After your experience, head back to the city for lunch before joining a tour out to the Martha Brae River, a popular destination for outdoor activities. Take a relaxing trip down the river on a bamboo raft while learning about Jamaican culture and nature from your rafting guide.

On your final day, book a full-day tour of a few natural attractions in the Montego Bay area. Don’t miss the Blue Hole, a swimming hole known for its clear, refreshing waters, and Dunn’s River Falls, a beautiful waterfall with a distinct terraced formation.
Around sunset, head to the Luminous Lagoon for an evening boat ride through its shimmering bioluminescent waters. You can even jump out of the boat and go for a night swim.
