Nighttime Mount Sinai Climb
Bring the warmest clothes you own even for those experienced in cold weather. Double layer socks, 2 shirts, poncho or jacket, thermal pants. The hike is challenging and occurs in complete darkness but is absolutely safe. You will complete the hike with both a tour guide and a Bedouin guide (2 helpers). There are multiple shelters and stops on the way that serve food. It is a 3 hour hike for those in excellent shape with no stops for rest. Most rewarding hike of my life as a follower of Christ.

A wonderful experience
Sallam is a seasoned professional who us clearly well known and respected by the Bedouin at the Mountain. He has an incredible knowledge of the area and is fluent in English and German. He arranged a guide for us, who was very experienced and thoughtful. A small group is better, if you can afford it because if there is a problem with someone then the impact is limited to your group. It’s not an easy walk and you need a certain degree of resilience more than fitness. There are plenty of opportunities to eat on the route and support the tribesmen economically. Take plenty if cash for tipping.

Wonderful Experience
This was a gorgeous moment. However, note that this is a very hard climb even for someone in shape. Best to do at night nit during the day in the heat.

Definitely recommend, the tour company was very communicative and responsive ahead of time, letting us know what we needed to pack and bring with us. The hike itself was tough, but there were plenty of breaks provided which really helped. It can get cold at the top so definitely take warmer clothing and coats. It’s a long trip overall so be prepared, but the views are absolutely worth it.

Absolutely Blessed
Blessed Trip, we started from the hotel the guide picked up, and we reached the monastery by 1 AM, started hiking toward the summit and reached by 5 AM, had a blessed time in the summit, my eyes saw the place where mosus received the word of God means the 10 Commandments. Joyfully came down and visited the burning bush.

Treacherous climb!
The guide was very helpful. Couple of group members struggled to climb the infamous 750 steps in pitch dark, the guide was always onhand to assist them. The climb was treacherous and it's not for the faint hearted. Once on the top, the view was amazing!

Awesome
Amazing experience. Well supported by staff. Enjoyed every moment. Beautiful journey with Viator that made it possible for solo traveller to get this experience at reasonable price along with more people coming from several places. Absolutely beautiful place and well organised by Viator. I was skeptical before booking due to bad experience with some local company. But this went perfect by all meansz

Very Cool!
Mohamed was great guide and made sure we were safe, comfortable and warm during the trek up and the wait for sunrise. He also helped us secure a good spot so we’d have perfect view of sunrise. It does get very cold so I recommend bringing warm clothes and making use of the mattresses and blankets they sell at the top.

When to visit

Mt. Sinai is a must-see for culture lovers and history buffs.
The hike to the summit can be strenuous; wear sturdy sneakers or hiking boots.
Dress in layers if you plan to visit during sunrise or sunset, as it can be cold at the top of the mountain. It’s also possible to rent blankets at the summit.
Multiple huts sell refreshments along the mountain path, so it’s a good idea to bring some spending money.
People Also Ask
How long is the hike to the top of Mt Sinai?
There are two separate routes to the top of Mt. Sinai. The Steps of Repentance include 3,000 rock-cut steps, and the Camel Trail offers a more gently sloping path. Both trails meet for the 750-step climb to the summit. Most travelers choose the Camel Trail, which takes about two hours.
Are there tours to Mount Sinai?
Yes. There are tours to Mt. Sinai from Dahab, Sharm el Sheikh, Hurghada, Cairo, and even Eilat in Israel: Dahab and Sharm el Sheikh are the best bases. Tours normally leave in the evening and drive overnight so you can climb the mountain for sunrise then visit St. Catherine’s Monastery.
How hard is it to hike Mount Sinai?
The Steps of Repentance are physically challenging, but the Camel Trail is relatively easy. Plenty of families have done it. Assuming you’re reasonably fit, the hardest element of the sunrise hike is the lack of sleep and, particularly in winter, the temperatures at the top. Camels are available if required.
What should I wear to Mount Sinai?
More clothing than you'd think. Mt. Sinai is 7,497 feet (2,285 meters) high, and nighttime winter temperatures drop below freezing. If climbing for sunrise, pack gloves, a hat, jacket, and thick socks in winter, and a layer and socks in summer. Modest dress is essential for the monastery.
What is the best day to visit Mount Sinai?
Whether you’re doing a sunrise or sunset hike, Tuesday is a great day to visit Mt. Sinai. Most travelers also tour St. Catherine’s Monastery, which shares the mountain’s UNESCO World Heritage listing. This opens in the mornings but is closed to visitors on Friday and Sunday and busiest on Saturday.
Is Mount Sinai worth it?
Yes, Mt. Sinai is absolutely worth it. It’s a sacred place to followers of all three Abrahamic religions—Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—many of whom believe Moses received the Ten Commandments here. But it’s also a beautiful and atmospheric slice of desert wilderness and not too taxing of a climb.
