The Stadthuys complex houses several museums. As well as a gallery focused on China’s Muslim eunuch admiral Cheng Ho, there’s a history and ethnography museum, a literature museum, a museum of government democracy, and an institution devoted to the governors of Melaka state.

The Stadthuys is in the heart of Melaka Old Town, across the river from Jonker Street (home of the night market). It’s about 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) south of Melaka Sentral, the city’s main bus station. Catch buses, including the M100, hail a taxi, or take a Grab rideshare.

January and February are great months for visiting the Stadthuys. Melaka has a steamy, tropical climate, so you can expect some rain most months of the year, but these are the driest months. As a bonus, you can time your visit to coincide with the Lunar New Year celebrations.
