Less known than Belgian beer, jenever remains a hidden gem. Though it’s the Belgian ancestor of gin, this unique drink can even resemble whiskey when aged. This tasting introduces you to five local jenevers, including a 10-year-aged jenever. We’ve paired them with chocolates from different chocolatiers across Belgium: a great opportunity to explore various styles of Belgian chocolate in a short time span. Belgian wines is a booming and vibrant industry, yet still very small. Even in Belgium, it's hard to get hold of the wines as they come from many tiny estates scattered across the country and sold mostly in restaurants. Thanks to my background in the wine industry with sommelier courses and a wine master's degree in Bordeaux I've been able to made a selection of great tasting wines that also highlight the various aspects of Belgian winemaking. So in 1.5 hours you will get a full fledged immersion, an exclusive experience and special memories. Moreover, the experience takes place at a unique location: my penthouse is situated in one of the cosiest neighbourhoods of Gent, at a 10min walk from the city centre. The whole béguinage area is on the UNESCO heritage site list, and the house I live in was built in 1664. Outside it looks like hundreds of years ago, while inside it's been recently renovated without losing its historical veneer. It's lovely and spacious and waiting for you!

As you work, you’ll also dive into the fascinating history of Belgian chocolate - from ancient chocolate drinks to the first bonbons. During this workshop, you’ll: • Taste a chocolate drink recipe dating back 5,000 years • Transform cacao beans into chocolate yourself • Recreate a 17th-century hot chocolate recipe • Indulge in chocolate delicacies enjoyed by historical figures across centuries • Discover chocolate’s origins as medicine • Enjoy chocolate bonbons, including the iconic seashells Please note: This is not a chocolate-making class focused on techniques like tempering, melting, or shaping chocolate into truffles or bonbons. Instead, participants will create chocolate from scratch by grinding cacao beans.
