Very well and professionally organized, amazing java tour
I couldnt ask for anything more from a privately organized tour in Java. Due to the nature of the activities, you always wake up very early and spend a lot of time travelling from one place to another by car or train, but every thing was very well structured. Both of our drivers were extremely kind, all the hotels were clean and well located. The tour includes most of "must do/see" in central and east java. Truly amazing!

A Charmed Adventure
Gun was an incredible guide who went above and beyond during my Ijen hike. As someone who isn’t very fit, I was nervous about the steep, slippery terrain—but Gun made sure I felt safe and supported every step of the way. He patiently helped me stay with the group, guided me up and down difficult sections (even holding my hand when needed), and took amazing photos that captured the experience beautifully. Thanks to his kindness and care, what I expected to be a challenge turned into an unforgettable adventure. I can’t recommend him highly enough!

This was one of the...
This was one of the highlights of our trip to Java and an absolutely unforgettable experience. Both the blue fire and view from the crater rim were incredible, and even more special due to the unique time of day! Our driver Riko and guide Ekshal were both excellent. Ekshal was good at looking after our family, going at our pace, and was assertive but not pushy in situations when we were trying to get down to see the blue fire in time or trying to get closer to take photos (as there are hundreds of other people all jostling to see it too). Be aware that it's about 10km hiking all up (unless you get a lift in one of the trolley carts) - 3.5km uphill to the crater rim, about 1km down a very narrow rocky track to the blue fire, 1km back up, another 1km to and from another lookout point on the rim, then 3.5km back down. Due to the steep track up and down, I would only undertake it with a reasonable level of fitness and no major health issues as it would be hard to get out with the crowds if something goes wrong. We took a 10 year old and 13 year old who could both manage the walking easily, but found the sulphur smoke/fumes a bit scary as it stings your eyes if you don't turn away. But they definitely enjoyed the experience too. Our driver also helped us buy tickets to the Ketapang ferry which we really appreciated.

Worth it!
The train option was fantastic! Very early starts but worth it for the views! Lovely home stays and great local guides.

  • Fumes from the lake can be highly irritating to eyes, nose, and throat—even worse when they’re absorbed into mist. The ranger station sells masks, but they’re of dubious effectiveness.

  • Besides the blue fire of Ijen Crater, the cool, coffee-growing landscapes of the Ijen Plateau are a highlight for many travelers.

  • Between the early start and the toxic gases, this is not a tour for families with small children.
