Located where the Jordan River flows from the Sea of Galilee into the Dead Sea, Yardenit (Jordan River Baptismal Site) is one of the world’s most important places of Christian pilgrimage. It's believed to be where John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ.

Shobak Castle (Krak de Montréal) is Jordan’s oldest crusader castle, located an hour north of Petra. It was built in 1115 by Baldwin I, king of the then-crusader state of Jerusalem, and overtaken by the armies of Saladin just 75 years later. Though the site lies mainly in ruins, the dramatic hilltop setting overlooking the rocky countryside makes this crumbling fortress well worth a meander.

Running from the shores of the Dead Sea to the mountains of Karak and Madaba, the Mujib Biosphere Reserve centers on Wadi Mujib, a dramatic gorge that locals consider Jordan’s answer to the Grand Canyon. The landscapes range from rugged desert to tumbling falls, and hiking and ziplining are just some of the ways to explore them.

The Dead Sea Museum, nestled within the Panorama Dead Sea Complex, features informative displays covering the iconic salt lake’s archaeology, geology, and ecology. The lake is receding at a rate of almost 4 feet (more than 1 meter) every year, and the museum highlights attempts to conserve it.
