Bermuda attractions

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Town of St. George is one for history lovers. This genteel little town on Bermuda’s far-eastern shores roughly marks the spot where shipwrecked Brits discovered the islands centuries ago. Today, the history-steeped streets showcase St. George’s colonial architecture, fortifications, and even pillory and stocks.

One of three cruise liner ports in Bermuda—the others are Hamilton Harbour and Royal Naval Dockyard—the St. George’s Bermuda Cruise Port welcomes small and medium ships from around the world. From the port, shore excursions depart daily and King’s Square in historic St. George’s is just a short walk.

Tumbling down from Bermuda’s South Road to the sea, Palm Groves Garden is a beautifully landscaped private garden that you can explore for free—thanks to its generous owners. Its standout sight is a lily pond with a Bermuda map built into it, along with other fun features such as a Chinese moon gate, a wishing well, and an aviary.

Perched on the coast of Smith’s Parish, Spittal Pond is Bermuda’s largest nature reserve. While the pond itself could seem underwhelming, the real joy comes from the wealth of flora, fauna, and birdlife that surround it. Hiking is the best way to discover the site—you can follow a looped trail that covers coastland, wetland, and woodland in one swoop.

St. David’s Head sits on Bermuda’s easternmost shore, jutting out from two headlands into the North Atlantic Ocean. While most people visiting Bermuda don’t make it out this far, those that do find a place untouched by tourism. Highlights include hiking in Great Head Park and seeing the artillery guns at St. David’s Battery—both boast striking ocean views.
