Lovely way to experience the local markets
Great way to experience the local markets with a guide to all the things you’re seeing. Penpath was a patient and knowledgeable guide. There was even a lovely boat ride at the first market!

Great tour - felt like shopping with the locals
A great tour with private guide to two weekend markets, which felt very authentic and there were mostly locals using the markets so not very touristy. They are called floating markets, but the boats are only a small element of the market these days, there are mostly stalls, but still lovely to see. Also a longboat trip on the canals which was beautiful and interesting, and our guide Sunny was great. Quite an expensive tour, but you get what you pay for.

Local Thai Market and boat ride
The first market you visit is about 45 mins from Bangkok. It is a very large market which is floating in that it is partly on a pontoon next to a canal, but it is not a floating market where you are on a boat and so are the sellers. It is very busy with local people but we saw very few foreigners. You walk through to get on a boat and take a ride around the canal which is very nice and interesting and the walk through the market again. We asked to stop for a bit and buy breakfast which was great to try different foods. The next market is very small and probably not worth the top - we only stayed for maybe 15 minutes. Our guide was very nice and pointed out some foods but didn’t explain about the history of the markets or Thai culture which would have been interesting. It was a nice way to spend the morning even if not quite what we expected.

This was an awesome...
This was an awesome experience! It was really peaceful riding the boat. Our guide Nam was great and made sure we had a positive experience by sharing recommendations for food and sharing about the temple. It was really cool to visit a local market. The food was incredible!

Taling Chan Floating Market
  • Most of the stalls are on land beside the canals, which is good news if you’re not comfortable on small boats.

  • Bring plenty of cash, as cards aren’t accepted.

  • As this is a less touristy market, few vendors here speak English. Restaurant menus often have pictures so you can point to what you want.
