Venture away from the bustling capital city of Paraguay and embark on a birdwatching adventure. Head to the town of Chacoí, surrounded by marshlands and a diverse ecosystem, to see various bird species including ringed, Amazon and Green Kingfishers, toco toucans, Crimson-crested Woodpeckers, and much more. The Great Chaco offers impressive wildlife, with good chance of seeing some of South America’s charismatic big mammals like jaguars, pumas and tapirs. It also hosts reptiles and birds in abundance, many of which are restricted to this ecoregion. You will enjoy a unique landscape with salt lakes that hold great concentrations of water birds and the dunes of Médanos del Chaco National Park (7 days tour) with its arid vegetation and the palm savannahs of the Humid Chaco. This tour will give you a chance to see Chaco endemic birds like Quebracho Crested-Tinamou, Black-legged Seriema, and Black-bodied Woodpecker. Lowland Tapir, Puma, Giant Anteater and Chacoan Peccary are amongst the mammals we may encounter: the last of these was presumed extinct when it was described from fossils in 1930. It came as a surprise when it was rediscovered in 1972, to become the (then) third and largest peccary species known! Today, the Paraguayan Chaco holds the main population of this species.

This tour will fascinate you, in which you will enjoy all the nature and wildlife of the Paraguay and Manduvira rivers. Wetlands, riverbanks, but also small patches of forest will impress you with the great fauna all around you. We will also enjoy a great diversity of ecosystems such as palm savannas, forests, and grasslands, during a 10 km drive on a dirt road in which we will watch a good number of birds and other animals.

Accompanied by expert guides, it will travel different paths and paths in environments of Selva (Atlantic Forest of Alto Paraná), grasslands and wetlands, being able to see a great diversity of resident and migratory species, some of them in categories of risk in terms of conservation (according to IUCN), within the first area of importance for Birds (IBA) of Paraguay. You will also take night outs (Owling, Herping, etc.) in safe and caring environments in which to carry out such activities with peace of mind. The tour includes round trips from Asunción to private areas of high biodiversity in the San Rafael National Park Reserve and surrounding areas, 4 meals daily, accommodations in the reserves (comfortable facilities in both areas that we will base) and all internal transfers. Difficulty levels on each particular route are adaptable to the requirements of travelers, with many customizable options.
