Solo prison island tour

The boat trip was good in a small motor boat. I think the fort and the prison were most interesting and also there were lovely views of the coast, very photogenic. The tortoises and their babies were fascinating, also the peacocks and the general flora and fauna of the island.

Excellent 3-hour excursion to Prison Island

Our tour guide, Mady, met us at our Stone Town hotel and ten minutes later we'd walked to the waterfront, got our snorkel gear, and were in a boat heading to Prison Island. We fed the tortoises before the bulk of the crowds arrived and Mady gave us a thorough and interesting history lesson. It was like an onsite TED Talk! He then took us to a good place for snorkeling with clear water and a good number of fish. This excursion was exactly 3 hours, so it's perfect if you're short on time. If you have more time, you can find better snorkeling experiences, but you won't find a better Prison Island guide than Mady! :-)

Good tour but snorkelling was not included

The tour was nice. It’s a short simple tour. The prison is small so the tour of the prison itself takes about 5 minutes. The highlight was definitely the tortoise encounter. They are magnificent and so fun to interact with. The tour description says it included snorkelling but our tour didn’t, the guide just told us we could swim on the beach if we wanted to. No snorkelling equipment were provided.

Great day out from Stone Town

Great guides, good value, amazing seeing the giant tortoises and feeding them, the rest of Prison Island, as also an ex hotel looks a bit cheesy. Didn't snorkel on this occasion as I was burnt from climbing Kilmanjaro, but the facility was there if we wanted to.

Rencontre sympa avec les tortues mais beaucoup trop cher pour cette excursion. Malheureusement, la météo n’était pas top, beaucoup de pluie mais visite de l’île en 5 minutes chrono. Notre guide était sympa mais assez presser à cause de la pluie sûrement….
