Roger was an absolute professional in giving this WW1 area tour. Super informative while at the same time humble enough to take many questions from the group, with a level headed approach on all the historical details. I can't imagine getting the same tour from anyone else. The sights seen were all very relevant, and we never felt rushed at any of them.
Cannot recommend this tour enough if interested in Flanders WW1 sights and history!
Despite us catching the wrong train, Graeme came back for us when we eventually made it ro Leper. He was very knowledgeable about the WW1 history of the area and was very accommodating to show us the Australian and New Zealand memorials. Highly recommend.
Organised guide who was informative and considerate. An interesting trip with lots of background information.
A memorable, moving, and very informative experience, while also being enjoyable and relaxed. Roger was incredibly knowledgable and personable. He brought the topic to life for us with respect and relatability, and his passion for world war 1 and helping others to understand was clear. I would recommend Roger’s tour to anyone, he adapted for each member of the party, we were a group from three different countries and he made links for all of us to be able to relate to the events and meaning. Thank you Roger, and looking forward to reading your book!
A very knowledgeable guide. He explains everything that you are seeing at the various sights and provides a well-rounded historical context. He drives you to each site, talks about the importance of each and then provides you with time to experience it on your own. He will also pick you up at the beginning of the tour and drop you off at the end of the tour at the place of your choosing within Ypres. High quality tour; would absolutely recommend!!
This tour is a must do. Roger is amazing and very knowledgeable. He is passionate on the subject and really took interest in every person in the group to make the tour very personable.
I would highly recommend this tour and Roger
If you want a Primer on WWI when it comes to trench fighting in Belgium 1915-1917 this is the place to start. Roger asks so many questions and provides so much content and context you can feel like you are there. Having a dreary overcast day also help to set the mood!
Just a great all around history of the war. Many visits with different aspects of the war. He can get as specific on details as the group wants.
Really informative. Visited original trenches. Guide took note of where you are from and tailored tour according. Guide had vast amount of knowledge
Superb tour - amazing professional and knowledgeable guide Roger I’d highly recommend this to anyone
Roger our guide was in contact with us soon after we booked, confirming pick details. Roger arrived on time and was simply delightful and full of knowledge that wasn’t overwhelming. He was ready for any questions and because it was just the two of us, he adjusted the itinerary to focus on our individual interests. We were impressed with everything and all the places we visited in our morning tour. Visiting the battlefields, cemeteries and a museum where the original tunnels still remain was an eye opener and gave an even greater respect to those who fought for our country. I would thoroughly recommend this tour.
We all enjoyed our tour with Roger. He told us lots of information about each part of Ypres that we visited. He encouraged us to ask questions and so we all learnt a lot about the events of WW1. Would highly recommend this tour, thanks again Roger!
We had a lovely day with Roger. He was super friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and respectful at letting us move at our own pace.
Would highly recommend!
The kids said to give Roger a 10/10!
Roger was very informative and helpful. So glad we did this day trip as we learned a lot. There was so much to see
Very informative and certainly worth while. I have been to the sites before without a guide and the difference Roger made to my understanding was immense.
Roger was an amazing guide and went out of his way to help us trace a relative who was buried at Hooge Crater.
Roger had an endless knowledge of the areas and was an excellent host. Would thoroughly recommend doing the tour.
Thought provoking throughout. Thank you Roger for the detailed information delivered in a simple yet meaningful manner. We felt it was possible to hang on to every explanation delivered by Roger during the Tour. Highly recommend and would do the Tour again without hesitation. Kevin, Maria, Lisa and Steve
Roger was an excellent guide and such a wealth of knowledge. He taught us anew information about the wars and since we are Canadians he highlighted our contributions. We didn’t realize he has written two books about the war and we got him to sign one for us.
Highly recommend him.
Absolutely fantastic. Roger is a great bloke and is extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend. Thanks again mate.
If you have a relative lost here In the war and want a better understanding of the environment, conditions, history, this tour with Roger is the one that I recommend? I give it 10 out of 5 star rating. Roger is down to earth and brings the history to life. Confronting, emotional, overwhelming. Roger goes above and beyond a standard tour guide of walk and talk, he has a passion for the subject.
Roger is an expert and delivers the information in an interesting and engaging manner. We were a group of six friends, some of whom had previously attended other WW1 tours but all agreed that Roger was the best guide they had experienced ‘by far’.
I highly recommend this tour
A great tour that was personalized by Rodger to help find a relatives grave - very informative on all aspects of the local area and WW1
This was an outstanding experience. Roger is incredibly knowledgeable and brought World War One to life in a way that was both engaging and deeply moving. He helped us truly grasp the magnitude of the events while making the history easy to understand. It’s clear he genuinely cares about the stories he’s sharing and is committed to ensuring everyone leaves with a deeper appreciation for the history.
One of the highlights was how Roger provided national context for everyone on the tour. Our group included Americans, New Zealanders, and Australians, and he tailored parts of the tour to highlight each country’s contributions and memorials, which made the experience even more meaningful.
I also want to mention Roger’s kindness and flexibility. Due to a train mishap, I ended up in France instead of Ypres and arrived 20 minutes late—I was sure we’d missed the bus. When I called, Roger actually looped back to pick us up, ensuring we didn’t miss a thing. That level of accommodation was above and beyond.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to truly see and experience the history of Flanders Fields. Also I just finished Roger's book "Reclaiming The Salient". It was excellent.
Roger was informative and timely. He gave us time to soak up the experience. Sobering, but insightful tour.
They should know how interesting and value for money it was, also host ,Roger very good and knowledgeable and knows his history extremely well
Roger was an excellent host who was extremely knowledgeable. He gave an in depth perspective and made you feel as though you had gone back in time and were reliving the moments.
This was a great tour. Roger was a very knowledgeable guide and this was a very relaxing and comfortable experience. We highly recommend this tour .
Such an informative tour. Learnt so much more than if we had gone independently. Plenty of time to ourselves too. Roger was amazing. His knowledge is extraordinary. Would highly recommend.
Great tour of local Ypres salient. Hits highlights without being too long. Great communication and easy pickup at the train station. One less star because van was a little cramped in back but not really an issue in the grand scheme of things. :)
Roger was awesome! He’s so kind and knowledgeable. My husband and I were more than happy with the tour given
