We had the most incredible whale watching experience! From the moment we boarded, the crew was knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about marine life. The highlight of the trip was getting to see orcas and it was absolutely breathtaking watching them surface and glide through the water. The guides shared so much fascinating information about the pods, their behaviors, and the ecosystem they live in, which made the experience even more meaningful. The boat was comfortable, well-organized, and everyone onboard had a great view. This was truly a bucket-list adventure and something we’ll never forget. If you’re looking for an unforgettable day on the water, I can’t recommend this whale watching tour enough!

      Working hard to find whales!

      Robert_E, May 2026
Very knowledgeable naturalist on board. He worked well with the captain. Found orcas, seals, birds...very enjoyable tour aboard a lovely, large vessel.

Thank you for joining our signature whale watch! Orca whales are the species we most often encounter, and we can see them year-round in the Salish Sea. We're glad you enjoyed the comforts of our 98-foot catamaran the Island Explorer 5 with her three viewing decks, indoor and outdoor areas, and stability. It was a beautiful day packed with awesome whale and wildlife encounters!

Thank you for joining us! Our early season encounters have been fantastic with lots of Bigg's killer whales and gray whale sightings. We're so happy to hear you enjoyed our knowledgable marine naturalists - we hope you learned something new!

Pick a better time of year, more whales.

      Sergio_S, Oct 2025
Be on time. Settle inside cabin before wandering the boat. Bring binoculars. There are more whales in peak fishing season, lesson learned.

      Response from Host, Oct 2025

During the month of October we have the potential to see up to three different species of whales on our tours: Bigg's killer whales, humpback whales, and minke whales! Whale watching in the wild means that every trip is unique and a true search. After 30 years of running trips, we can confidently say we have not found a best time of year! Which species are in the area from day to day is fluid, but this continues to be one of the best places in the world for whale watching (especially for orcas). We hope you still enjoyed our whale and wildlife encounters, and we agree that binoculars are a great tool for viewing marine life that may be farther away.

      Great time!

It was an awesome experience! The crew tries very hard to make sure to find everything they can to show you and explain about the wildlife and the surrounding areas.

      Response from Host, Sep 2025

We appreciate your review! The Salish Sea provides a unique experience on every trip, and we are thrilled to have such an abundance of marine life in our waters. Our Naturalists enjoy educating about the whales and wildlife we see, and we hope you learned something new!

We love and share your passion for orca whales! The Salish Sea is one of the best places to see them consistently in the wild, and our Bigg's killer whale population is booming. This is our 30th year running tours from Anacortes, and you won't find a more qualified or passionate crew. Education is an important component of our trips, and we custom designed our vessel for wildlife viewing in the pacific northwest. With three viewing levels and indoor and outdoor viewing, you can watch whales from any point on the boat! We greatly appreciate your review and we're thrilled we could make your orca whale dreams come true.

      3 hour seagull watching trip

      Ryan_B, Aug 2025
Apparently they found a whale but I never saw it surface. They took a professional picture and you could maybe see a dolphin sized fin 3 seconds at a time. Was a seagull watching trip.

      Response from Host, Aug 2025

We work extremely hard to find our guests whales, and although we have a high success rate, we unfortunately cannot control which whales are in the area or what their behaviors will be. We hope you will join us again because every day is unique on the water. We also invite you to check out our whale report on our website to see how every trip is different! We appreciate you joining us.

Nice ride through the San Juan Islands! We ended up seeing a pod of orcas. The boat was super clean and nice. The crew were knowledgeable and friendly.

      Response from Host, May 2025
