Overview

Keralan cuisine can be tricky to master alone, so make the most of your south India vacation by learning the basics from a local chef. On this small-group lunchtime class in Varkala, you’ll be welcomed into a traditional house and learn to create different flavors, spice combos, and classic dishes, from "sambar"—lentil and vegetable stew—to pineapple chutney. Finish by joining your companions to lunch on your creations served “thali” style—on round platters and banana leaves.
  • Take a hands-on Keralan culinary class in an old Varkala house
  • Discover south Indian cooking from a local chef rather than recipes
  • Learn to create spice mixes, flavor profiles, and around five classic dishes
  • Savor your creations during a platter lunch served on banana leaves

Don’t hesitate. Just let Suresh show his joy for his grandmas cooking! A day to remember for me and my sister.

    Entertaining, informative and delicious. Recommended!

Wonderful experience - well presented with hands on participation, we learned lots about Kerala ingredients and recipes. The kitchen is nicely designed, elevated and open at the sides for some air. If you are here off season, you might get lucky enough to get an exclusive class

Delighted to hear you enjoyed the class and the open-air kitchen setup! It’s great that you had the chance for a more personal experience — thank you for joining us! 🌿🍳
