Itinerary

After morning pickup at your hotel in Port of Spain, climb aboard your comfortable tour vehicle and settle in for a day of getting to know the island.

Depart Port of Spain and head south, down the west coast of the island. Enjoy the scenery and engaging commentary from your guide about the history and culture of Trinidad as the tour begins. Stop in San Fernando, Trinidad's second-largest city, known as the nation's industrial capital.

Head east, through land that overlooks the line of verdant palm trees overlooking the 14-mile (22.5-km) Mayaro Beach. Drive through cocoa plantations and lush greenery before reaching Manzanilla. The pristine beach at Manzanilla is a hatching site for the leatherback sea turtle.

Leave Manzanilla, returning to Port of Spain for drop-off at your hotel.

Circle route overview of the real Trinidad

Jonathan_H, Nov 2025
A lot of driving, best done Saturday or Sunday when traffic light; get out early to enjoy morning sunshine; route best done anticlockwise to do temples first & fish stalls at Cocos Bay for lunch; Mt St Benedict Monastery worthwhile

Very pleasant guide. Ulric was very knowledgeable and accommodating. I learned a lot during the tour.

Wonderful experience!

Vanessa_T, Apr 2024
Mr. Jeffrey was very knowledgeable. He showed us things no one else offers. He really loves his home country and it shows. Even in bad weather we were able to go so many new places and he gave us the history behind each. He was very accommodating and made sure to stop multiple places as requested. This was an excellent experience and I’d recommend to everybody coming to the island.

Skip this trip!

This was not a great trip. We'd never been to Trinidad and thought we'd like to see the whole island. Well, we've seen most of it now (although the tour does not include the northern Crribean coast line which is where all the best beaches are). It's truly not worth seeing. Houses, retail, commercial, trees. Nothing of note. The Atlantic coastline was full of oil and foam and wasn't appealing at all. There wasn't even any shopping. Not to mention our tour guide Aziz was so sick he was coughing his lungs out by the end of the tour. He got us both terribly sick. He shouldn't go to work sick. Skip this tour.

Fantastic experience

Jeffrey is a brilliant tour guide ! Super knowledgeable and stops off at all the locations which are off the beaten track so you get to experience the real Trinidad 🇹🇹 loved this tour would highly recommend :)

Fabulous trip

Donald_W, Aug 2023
Spectacular trip of Trinidad lead by Ulrick, our personal guide, who was a mine of knowledge and information. Specially enjoyed trip and tour of the Pitch Lake, top of San Fernando Hill, Temple in the sea and the Budist Temple. Loved the “doubles” @Singhs in Debe.

Cathryn_R, Oct 2022
Jeffery was a great guide. The tour was exactly as stated and gave me a great overview of the island.

Great tour to understand what Trinidad has to offer

Henry_G, Jun 2022
Our guide Jeffrey picked us up right on time. He was very friendly, funny and very very knowledgeable. Over the course of the tour he introduced us to the history, demographics, culture and traditions of Trinidad & Tobago. We also talked a lot about culinary traditions of all the ethnicities on the island. He was able to answer all of our questions. We saw many types of plants and birds. We drove all around the island, ate Doubles and Bake & Shark. We saw island architecture and religious sites. We crossed from the Caribbean to the Atlantic coasts. We had a lot of fun and laughs and now appreciate more the rich culture and traditions of Trinidad. Highly recommend.

Response from Host, Aug 2022

Thank you so much for your review. We are glad to know you enjoyed your tour and will pass on your kind words to Jeffrey.

Got a long layover in Trinidad?

Captchris8, Sep 2018
We had a 14 hour layover in Port of Spain so what to do, Sit in the airport? No, no, no.Take a tour of the Island with Island Circle Tours then go to the bird sanctuary at sun set to watch thousands of birds flying in to roost for the night. One of the birds is the National bird of Trinidad, the Red Ibis. Quit a sight. Our tour guide was Errol, he was very good. So if you do choose tour tour ask for him.

Tammy_O, Jun 2018
I came to Trinidad for a work conference and planned a day extra so that I could see as much of the island as possible. It was a surprise that I was the only one on the tour with the driver but that made it all the more special. Jeffrey Wong Sang was my tour guide and I would recommend him to anyone that is visiting Trinidad. He knows the island very well, shares a lot of history and like me, enjoys good food! He accommodated my request to try some local foods while I was on the island and I was not disappointed. Even though we had some not so great weather, the tour was perfect!

Amlan_S, Jan 2018
Very unique tour with a top notch guide who loves the island, knows its history inside out, and can provide some very interesting and off the beaten track knowledge e.g.: landmarks associated with sugar industry history, politics, history of immigration and racial integration, etc.. Highly recommended.

Good way to see the central part of Trnidad. This is mostly the driving tour through the various cities. The driver cum tour guide was very good and accommodating to our request for additional attraction.

Anagha H, Nov 2017
This tour was exceptional all because of Errol, the most wonderful tour guide/person I met during my time in Trinidad! To say he is a gem is an understatement. I ended up being the only person on my tour and had such an amazing experience with Errol as he took me to see so many local spots and really customized the tour to the sights I was interested in seeing. He showed me several of the towns throughout the island and I really felt like I got a nuanced understanding of how the locals live in Trinidad. Errol has impeccable knowledge of all things Trinidad and knows every nook and cranny of the island - he had great responses to my many questions. He was such a great person to speak with and we chatted on all sorts of things during the tour, which really made the experience great. I had such an amazing time that I booked a last minute tour the next morning to see Chaguanas/Pitch Lake and some other areas I was keen to see during my stay. Errol was nothing but kind, understanding, and accommodating. I'd highly recommend this tour particularly if you can get Errol - he's the best tour guide I've ever met and as a female solo traveler, he was like a father figure on this trip! Errol will be the first person I call on my next trip to Trinidad and he honestly made my stay there so special. Thanks Errol! P.S. Below is a photo we took at the mall in case you book him for your next tour, you know what he looks like!

The trip was fantastic! Getting outside of Port of Spain was a real delight--to see San Fernando, and some of the beach areas and small towns around Trinidad. We also tried some great local foods and fresh coconut water---directly from one picked right off the tree! My host was so knowledgeable about the history and current developments in Trinidad--the time just flew by! I highly recommend this tour.

Kenneth_J, Feb 2017
This was an excellent tour to take. Errol, our guide, is very knowledgeable about Trinidad, its birds, its vegetation, and its people. We drove through many towns and Errol had factoids on various sights along the way. Lunch was great. The roads are well paved and the trip was never boring. This is a rare time to see the East coast of the island. I highly recommend taking this tour for those who want to see more than Port of Spain and Maracas Bay. See how Trinis live outside the capital. If you have the opportunity, ask for Errol, you will love him.

This tour was awesome. Errol, our driver, was fun, personable and very knowledgeable. We were picked up in a newer minivan that was clean and comfy, the AC kept us cool on a warm and humid day. Errol planned out our day but let us call the shots. We saw nearly the entire island and really got to see the people of Trinidad as they live - this is not a sanitized touristy tour. We made pit stops whenever necessary - Errol knew where to stop. We stopped in Mayaro for lunch and had some great local fare in a place that was clean and had great service. We made changes to the itinerary as necessary - for example, we live near the beach so we stopped at the beaches to just take a look rather than take the time for a swim. Each of the areas we saw are distinctly different. We definitely recommend this tour, book with Errol if you can. The trip was well worth the time and cost. You'll go home with a great understanding of this wonderful country.

It was a shock to be taken on a private tour. I thought we would be meeting and traveling with a group. the tour was excellent. The driver couldn't have been more knowledgeable and we saw a lot of the island

A great way to see different parts of Trinidad. There are not many stops, but lots of beautiful vistas and towns to pass through.

Dr_Y, Jun 2014
The driver was on time to take my wife and i on the scheduled tour. The tour was on a public holiday, so it gave us, I am told, a less labored and cluttered road travel. The driver was informative and helpful with information as we proceeded on our tour. It was a good opportunity to learn about a literal cross-section of the country and countryside of Trinidad. I would recommend the experience to anyone who wants to see at first hand some of what Trinidad is.

Marcel_v, Feb 2014
We were glad this tour was not cancelled, like 2 other tours we took in the Caribbean (one by Viator.com was cancelled 45 minutes in advance). This tour (5 hours) is in fact a drive (with 2 stops), with a drive along the highway to the south, a road across the island to the east coast, a nice drive along the east coast, and back to Port of Spain. Although mentioned in the tour description, we did not see the Bay of Paria nor the Town of San Fernando. Altough it is nice to get an impression of the Island, we expected more from this tour.

All three tours were excellent...

Dorothy J, Feb 2014
All three tours were excellent because of the guides. However, dealing with the agency in Trinidad was most discouraging. They would not respond to phone calls, even when the hotel made the call for me. I was never sure when I was being picked up at my hotel. The guides were not part of the agency; they worked as independent guides. Think twice before dealing with that agency.

"Circle Tour" is 80% driving around...

Fernando G, Mar 2013
"Circle Tour" is 80% driving around the island and there are only two stops: Manzanilla which is downright touristy in atmosphere and some shore lined with coconut trees. At the price paid it is not good value compared to other Viator tours I have taken. Again I do not fault the driver with this. In fact realizing that I was after authneticity he stopped me at two provincial towns typical of Trinidad. I suggest you enrich the tour itinerary with such stops otherwise a Trinidad would be not much more than driving around as if it was just a coach bus tour. I am interested to hear of your reaction to this suggestion. Thanks.

Response from Host, Mar 2013

Thank you for your feedback regarding this tour. We are sorry to hear it did not meet your expectations and have forwarded your suggestion on to our Product department so they may discuss them with our local tour operator. Thank you again for booking with us, and Happy Travels!

Tina S, Mar 2013
I stayed in the Port of Spain during my visit to the islands of Trinidada and Tobago. My tour guide, Andy, arrived on time, picking me up in the lobby of my hotel. I paid $139.00 for my seven hour personal tour. I was pleased to be the only person because I wanted a low-key, less "touristy" experience. Andy provided just what I wanted. He didn't feel the need to talk on endlessly but allowed me to set the tone for the tour. When I felt compelled to aske questions Andy was able to provide an asnwer to the question; when I just wanted to sit back and look out the window. He offered to stop at any point, allowing me again to set the pace and course. The car was clean; he kept his music low. I felt safe during our the drive. We stopped in the town of Rio Claro for lunch. Prior to heading out, we agreed on a pick up spot. As a woman traveling alone, he was reassuring and provided safety a few safety guidelines.. Though the Island Circle Tour didn't circumnavigate the whole island, it did cover Caribbian, inland and Atlantic views that provided a good overview of the third-world like country. My experience with Andy went so well that I hired him a few days later to take me to the Caroni Swamp, where I joined a group of tourists for a swamp tour and visually stunning dusk dance of the island's Red Ibis as flocks filled the sky and made their way to their evening perch.

The driver was very helpful and the trip was interesting but evident neglect of a good deal of the country's agriculture and forestry was disappointing.

Simon H, May 2007
My fiancee and I really enjoyed ourselves. Our personal driver took us to a couple of beaches, and was quite happy to wait for us to finish without rushing us at all. He even took us to a place that we had wanted to see - which was slightly off route - with no charge whatsoever. He was very nice and patient, very friendly and looked after us a lot.
