Meet your guide and small group at a secret rendezvous point on Beef Island; you'll receive detailed directions ahead of time.
Listen to your guide as they give a short safety talk and orientation to the area, then get fitted with your kayaking or stand-up paddleboard gear. Even for a first-time paddler, either sport takes less than 10 minutes to learn, especially under the guidance of your experienced instructors. Take some practice laps and then head out for the lagoon.
Paddle over to edge of the lagoon that is protected from the wind. As you move, look into the clear, shallow water for fish and other marine life. Rest assured that your guides do not advocate feeding marine life; they leave the fragile ecosystem to its own devices.
Continue into a shallow area full of baby mangroves, a nursery for unusual creatures such as the caseopea andromeda and others. Look skyward to see sea birds such as ospreys, mangrove cuckoos and pelicans. Underwater, look for turtles, stingrays, barracuda and tropical fish.
Midway through the tour, go ashore on a tiny coral atoll, a representative example of how the natural forces create these lagoons, marine forests and islands. Your guide can fill you in on the history of the BVI, from pirates to mega yachts.
End up back at your starting point after 1.5 to 2 hours of paddling.

Alex really loves and cares about the natural beauty of the island and mangroves. He will walk you through every step including picking you up from the cruise terminal. Out of all the shore excursions we did, my partner and I agree, this one was the most interesting, fun, and memorable. When we come back to BVI, we will most definitely do this again.

Had a great time with Alex. Lucky for us other cancelled so it became a private tour. Alex is incredibly knowledgeable and shared so much info about the mangroves and their importance. Great option when on Tortola!

Great excursion, very private and unique experience. This excursion offered a private and exclusive experience that was not crowded. Alex was very friendly and knowledgeable and eager to share his knowledge regarding the habitat and environment. Highly recommend if you enjoy small groups and out of the ordinary experiences.

Fantastic morning on the water! Alex is so knowledgeable about the mangroves. Fascinating. Easy paddling in double kayaks. Paddle for a bit then a talking break so my arms never got tired or anything. We thought this was a nice way alternative to the beaches we spent most of our time at just for something a little different.

Alex was an outstanding guide with a deep knowledge of the local area, mangrove biology, wildlife, and the ecosystem as a whole. His enthusiasm for conservation truly shines through and added meaningful context to the experience. Kayaking across the lagoon and weaving through narrow channels around and even under the mangroves was not only informative but incredibly fun. It was fantastic way to explore the island.
Recommend using insect repellent to avoid itchy bug bites.

If you want a trip that’s away from the crowds and you love nature then this is the one for you! Alex was brilliant, very knowledgeable about the mangroves and very clear he cares deeply about this area of his home island. He took us right through the middle of the forest, on a private estate so didn’t see another soul the entire time. Dropped us iat Long Beach for the afternoon but can also take you back to the port if that’s what you need. Highly recommend this excursion 👍

Alex was an awesome tour guide, very knowledgeable and insightful! The whole experience was a lovely and peaceful break from the crowds and the whole family had a great time! Highly recommend

The tour guide was very informative, no prior kayak experience required and the experience is also kid friendly, there was another family in our group with 2 younger kids (5-10) they got through the tour and enjoyed as well.

Fantastic experience, Alex is so knowledgeable and friendly. It was a leisurely paddle through the mangroves in the kayaks. We didn't see much wildlife but that didn't really matter as the scenery and Alex's guided tour made it brilliant.

We had a great time with Alex - he was patient with our sons who really wanted to paddle board (one is very capable, the other is learning) and with us (we do not have the same love of water sports). It was beautiful to be out and see egrets and pelicans, jellyfish and small sting rays in the water. Definitely worth it!

This was a magical and educational trip through the mangrove forest taken by a guide who is obviously knowledgeable and passionate about it. It is beautiful and o peaceful. Well organised with pick up and drop off and all equipment provided. The lagoon is very shallow so don't worry if you do happen to tip the kayak it is very safe. Remember to bring your go pro or waterproof camera cover!

This excursion was our favorite of our whole trip! Alex is absolutely wonderful and is everything you could want in a tour guide. He is a wealth of knowledge of not in the Mangroves but of Tortola as he is a Native. His easy-going manner made us feel so welcome and he put our 9 yr old at ease very quickly. It was so peaceful on the water and our time together flew by much faster than we wanted! This is a wonderful excursion for families for sure! We would absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting Tortola!

Our guide, Alex, was terrific! He was enthusiastic and eager to share the lagoon and the beauty of the island with us. He helped with some individual issues with ease, and guided us in our 2-person kayak (while he rode a stand-up paddleboard) through the mangroves and around the lagoon while informing us about the mangroves, ecology, and more. A must for beginners and experienced kayakers.

Our tour with Alex was one of the highlights of our trip to Tortola. He is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about the mangroves and marine life that make this area so special. You can tell he’s lived here all his life and genuinely loves sharing that knowledge with others. When we accidentally tipped our kayak and lost a pair of sunglasses, Alex went above and beyond by going back later to find them and is even helping us arrange shipping. That kind of care and dedication is rare. We’re so thankful for the experience and highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Tortola.

Alex is a fantastic tour guide. He is so knowledgeable about the area and its history and ecology. He kept things engaging throughout.
Alex went so far as to backtrack and help me find my phone and ID that I had left near the beach after the excursion and was super patient throughout. Definitely recommended!

Amazing kayak experience. Our guide was educational & fun. One of the best experiences we’ve had kayaking. We did this excursion as part of our cruise stop. We were so happy the times were able to be changed to accommodate our times in port. Would definitely recommend!
