I liked very much this very well organized tour. I appreciated the kindness of the 2 drivers (ouzbekh and tadjik) and the knowledge of the guide, from whom I learnt a lot on Tadjikistan history and culture. I definitely recommend this tour. You should only know that the Uzbekh driver will drive you to the border and then you will have to walk 1.5km through 4 gates to cross the border. The tadjik driver and guide will pick you up on the Tadjik side

Overall, I really enjoyed this day trip to see Tajikistan. One thing to note is no entry fees are included unlike what the posting says. We had to pay for entry fees at the palace, museum and fortress. Make sure you bring cash and convert it at either the border or a bank. About $100 was enough for 3 people including entry fees and lunch. Both of our drivers were very friendly…keep in mind you will have one driver on the Uzbekistan side for about 1.5 hours. Then you have to go by foot for about 1 km to cross into Tajikistan and will find another driver there who will drive you for about 1.5 hours too. Our guide Shahrom was very knowledgeable and friendly. I’d recommend this trip to anyone who wasn’t to see Tajikistan but is short on time cuz otherwise I would’ve liked to spend more time in that beautiful county.
We loved our trip to Khujand from Tashkent. The pick up from our hotel was seamless. The car was clean and comfortable and Daniel, was a really good and safe driver. Once we crossed the border to Tajikistan our guide, Shahrom, found us and took us to our new driver, who was also great. Shahrom showed us around the city and taught us so much about Tajik culture and history. We had an amazing time learning, exploring and meeting friendly faces.
The journey started when the driver picked us up from our hotel in Tashkent at 7:30 a.m. By 10:00 a.m., we had arrived at the border between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The border-crossing process was smooth and took only 15 minutes.
Once we entered Tajikistan, we were greeted by our tour guide, who arrived with his car to drive us around the city. It took about an hour to drive from the border to the city of Khujand. Our tour guide was very kind and knowledgeable, with an excellent understanding of the region’s history. Since it was a private tour, we were able to decide what we wanted to do and visit.
We spent about four hours in Khujand before deciding to head back to the border. We reached the border at 4:00 p.m. and crossed back into Uzbekistan in another smooth 15 minutes. Finally, we arrived back at our hotel in Tashkent by 7:00 p.m.
It was a wonderful trip, and I truly appreciated the hospitality of our tour guide. The people were kind and courteous.
Two things to note: First, bring a Visa ATM card to withdraw cash. In Khujand, many establishments do not accept Visa credit cards. Secondly, don’t let the taxi drivers touting at the Uzbekistan or Tajikistan borders ruin your overall experience. This happens in many countries, and the borders are safe.
We completed a 12 day guided tour in Uzbekistan and thought it was good idea to take a day tour to khjand from Tashkent. It ended up a bad trip. First, there is really nothing new to see in Khujand. And secondly, the time spent on the road is too long. Thirdly, this day tour is way over priced based on living standard in these two countries.
However, the tour guide and the drivers on both countries are friendly and helpful.
I would not recommend to is trip to my friends.
Two important things;
1. It is a long ride from Tashkent on decent, but not good roads. We had a nice car and the driver kept the speed down on the way there.
2. Despite specifically stating admissions are included In the trip description, they are not. This matters because you have to change money at the border for this day trip. Credit cards were not accepted for admissions. The tour operators will not reimburse those admission fees.
The drivers spoke no English but the guide, Hussein, was very good and knowledgeable.
We did enjoy our trip.
The driving was safe-ish, and the border crossing well prepared. We were able to cross both ways with hardly any waiting, no visa and no cost (Norwegian passports). :-)
The guide spoke a lot and was an experience in himself. He hardly understood any of our English but it somehow worked out, and we undertood most of what he said.
Entrance fees are not included (even if it says so). You need some local currency for entrance and lunch. ATMs are available but the places mentioned didn't take Visa.
All in all we had a great day!
Tour went generally smooth. Note that there you will be pick-up in your hotel and that ypu will cross the border.
Your khujand tour guide will be waiting at the Tajikistan side if the border.
Our tour guide Sha is good in history and have a lot of interesting stories to share.
The journey was comfortable. There was a shuttle service from my hotel in Tashkent to the Uzbekistan border. After passing through immigration, I met my guide at the Tajikistan border. The guide and driver then took me sightseeing in Kujan. Both the driver and guide were very polite. The guide was very knowledgeable about Kujan and explained everything clearly. Thank you so much for this trip. I highly recommend this tour.
Really awesome day trip! Well organized and enjoyable. We had no issues going through the border. It’s a long walk though with lots of checkpoints!
The ticket we have purchased clearly states all the admissions are included. However when we arrived at khujand the tour guide told us none of the admissions were included. We were unable to visit the museum and the mausoleum. The tour agency was dishonest. Not recommend this tour. We appreciate the Tashkent side to take us to the train station.

This tour is an excellent daytrip to see Tajikistan from Uzbekistan. The boarder crossing was easy despite going through multiple checkpoints. The guide and drivers were on time and very nice. The tour hit the highlights. Im glad I did the tour and would recommend it to anyone trying to make a quick daytrip.
We had an excellent experience with our driver Joe picking us up at our hotel and driving us to the border . Crossing to Tajikistan was smooth and we were met by our guide and driver on time. We had a wonderful experience visiting cultural sites and enjoying a delicious lunch. Highly recommend this trip to anyone interested in exploring another Stan.

It’s quite a complicated day trip. As a UK citizen the Tajikistan visa was a bit awkward to obtain and costly(this might differ for different nationalities). The boarder crossing is also a bit complicated but doable. You don’t get lots and lots of time in the city because there is about 6 hours of driving and a couple of hours at the boarder. So take into account 8 hours during the day will be travel leaving maybe 5 hours in the city. Everything else was good though, the food was cheap and the souvenirs and attraction tickets. Make sure to take a VISA card as master card is not accepted. As it was a Sunday no banks were open to exchange money but you can do that at the boarder. There are also lots of touts at the boarder. If you want to “tick off” a new country then definitely go
Excellent chance to see Tajikistan with a knowledgeable and entertaining guide. Had a great day. Not only did he explain the history and culture but helped me understand the prayer ritual in the mosque. He also helped me taste food in the market. I would recommend this day tour from Tashkent to other travellers.

Unfortunately we didn't realise a UK passport meant we couldn't do this trip without a visa so we're unable to do it. We didn't realise until the 24 hour window had passed but despite this the tour operator offered us a different activity (to the mountains, really lovely) in a very comfortable air conditioned car, which we did, and went out of his way to meet us in Samarkand and give us the difference back. This really was over and above and reflects our experience of Uzbek people in general, everyone we met was honest and trustworthy. We couldn't be more grateful.

An absolutely wonderful tour of Khujand, Tajikistan. I was actually looking forward to a portion of Silk Road tour. Instead we got a very informative, engaging tour guide who deeply love and cared for Tajikistan history, culture, leaders and way of life. We learned so much. The lunch was reasonable and delicious. We spent what seem like pennys at the Thursday market for a bunch of stuff. We were blow by the artwork at fat man castle and the mosaics in the museum. The day was very hot and long but it went by fast. P.S. Crossing the border is interesting. We crossed 5 check points walk about 1km to Tajikistan and on the way back it was 7 check points to Uzbekistan.
My plan was Almaty, Bishkek, and Tashkent - but on my way to Tashkent (by train from Almaty), I saw this day trip opportunity and signed up. I am glad I did.
A car/driver took me from my Tashkent hotel to the border, then I walked across border showing passport six times -- on the Tajikistan side, another car picked me up with a driver and guide. Aziz, the guide, spoke English well. We spent only a few hours in Khujand, including lunch, before heading back to the border where the process was done again in reverse.
Crossing this land border was intense, but that is part of the experience. Officials were polite and professional. Autos had to open trunks and hoods, and walkers like me just walked through and around the autos as we went from building to building. No signage was in English, but common sense and following the other people worked.
Border crossing can be complicated. There was no tourist other than me. There were 3 different check points for each side (Uzbekistan and Tajikstan). Border guards are friendly, but somewhat of an adventure. The museum in Khujund was interesting, but probably not worth the long day trip….. even though the trip by car one do see the cotton fields…..etc. Not a good idea for family. I took the trip out of curiosity and also want to see Tajikstan…..
at 7.30 am the driver picked me up from the hotel. first surprise: he doesn't speak English. he takes me to the border with Tajikistan, tells me where he will pick me up in the afternoon. passport control between the 2 borders takes 40 minutes! the guide is waiting for me in Tajikistan. very professional, excellent English, welcomes me with a beautiful smile, aware of what it means to go through passport control. then we return to the Middle Ages. the history of the country is explained to me and after 1 hour we arrive in Khujand, I visit the central market, the madrassas, the fort etc. we eat in a typical restaurant and then visit a palace similar to the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. we then return to the border and this time I cross both borders in 20 minutes. the surprise comes when I am in Uzbekistan and there is no driver.at that point I was literally attacked by locals who wanted to take me to Tashkent, paying of course. none of them speak English and being in that situation was not pleasant. I had to call the tour operator, raise my voice and ask for explanations! I had to wait 30 minutes in that situation for the driver to arrive. the assistance is absolutely inadequate. for this reason I wouldn't recommend the excursion, but what it gave me makes me say yes.

When we asked for an English speaking guide we expected an English speaking driver/guide to take us to the border, advise us on what to expect and do at the border checkpoints and ensure that we reach Tajikistan safely . Instead, the driver who drove us from hotel to border spoke not a word of English and gave no explanation whatsoever. As a result , we were herded by the crowd through what seemed to be endless immigration and customs check points. At one point we were held up for half an hour as the immigration officials there didn’t know that Malaysians don’t require visas to enter Tajikistan. It was nerve wrecking. No guide or anyone from your tour company called to find out what was causing the delay. We tried calling the tour company, Silk Road Travellers and no one answered! We didn’t even know where the end of the checkpoints were and looked in vain for our Tajikistan guide at the second last checkpoint as we assumed it was the last one when we saw several taxi drivers there.
The only small saving grace in this traumatic trip was the Tajikistan guide ( when we finally found him) who spoke English and tried hard to make up for our bad experience.
The tour itinerary itself was rather simple: market place, museum, mosque visit, Lenin statue. Considering the price, maybe a little too simple. The best part of the tour was definately the very knowledgeable local guide. Khujand town itself seemed interesting but was left a little aside. Maybe adding a short town-walk or some nature visit would make the tour perfect? The duration of the time spent in Khujand could be also an hour or two longer because the Tashkent-Khujand drive with border procedures takes around 2 hours one way. All in all, a good option, three strong stars - and nothing to complain, just constructive criticism.
Great experience in Tajikistan. Guide Jahongir from Tajikistan part was much experienceed, gave us a lot of informations about Khujand and Tajikistan and showed us great plavesin Khujand.
We had a fabulous day, way beyond our expectations. We were collected from our hotel and after about an hour and a half drive reached the border crossing. Our guide parked the car on the Uzbekistan side and we walked across to the Tajikistan side. It saved alot of time, as it can take hours crossing by car. We were picked up by a different driver on the other side and driven to Khujand. Gide accompanied us and we got a quick tour of some of the sights. Very impressed by the city, well worth seeing and our guide was excellent. So take the trip!!😊
It is a very nice city to explore. Although unfortunately the tour bus didnt have adequat air conditioning and during summer it was very uncomfortable. Some of the most interesting places at the beginning were rushed too much. And the longest amount of time was given to the bazaar where little time was needed there. Would have been better to have extra time near the river. Overall a good experience.
This was a great tour and my guide did an excellent job. Polite, professional, and knowledgable. I highly recommend this tour.
English speaking guide very well but one tour was replaced by another and I had to pay 2 entrances ( twice 30 somonis ) which were indicated as included. Knowing that alone, I pay twice the basic price, all this is extremely unpleasant.
