I took this class with my 13yo son, who loves to cook, and we had a great time cooking and then eating our creations. It was quite a long class that included the wet market tour, cooking, and then eating, and chef Denise was awesome! She was very knowledgeable and we learned so much. Everyone kind of hung out at the end and no one was in a rush to leave, we had such a good time and the food (Hainan Chicken, Ngo Hiang) we had made was so delicious.

Cooking with Chef Colin

Karen_K, Jan 2026
This was a great experience, and we enjoyed our time with Chef Colin. He provided step by step instructions for cooking traditional Singaporean dished - Hainanese chicken rice, Ngoh Hiang (large fried chicken roll) and Kueh Dadar (dessert). My only disappointment was that I expected this to be a class for 10 individuals and it was a class for 14. I found on occasion that Chef Colin had some difficulty managing this size of a class but overall, we all enjoyed our experience.

Denise was a skilled chef and excellent teacher as well as an informative guide on our walking tour of the wet market and surrounding community

Disappointing- not up to expectations

Anonymous, Oct 2025
I think our leader,Vivian, did the best she could with what she had to work with, but the market experience was underwhelming and quite disappointing. Many vendors not open and mostly an elderly neighborhood. While the specific vendors we stopped at for a chat were engaging, most of the market was quiet and unengaging. So the market experience was definitely not satisfactory. Vivian was enthusiastic and a good teacher but the food prep and cooking took way too long. I think she tried to plan the perfect meal and it ended up taking too long for my friend and me. And while it was interesting learning how to prep and cook, the end result was rather bland and didn’t have a lot of taste. The food prep and cooking areas were in the back room of a bicycle tour shop so didn’t lend itself to a special environment for this experience. Stools were in short supply so after standing for an hour and a half prepping and cooking, I was pretty exhausted. I appreciate Vivian’s efforts and sincerity in trying to provide a meaningful experience. She just didn’t have enough to work with in terms of the market and culinary environments.

Will do again!

Lovely experience

Jimette_S, Jun 2025
Lovely experience! Honestly I tried chicken and rice at a hawker and the chatterbox and I couldn't understand the hype behind it until this one. The rices, chicken and sauce we made are so flavorful! I can't wait to take the recipe back to the US and cook it for my toddler! It was also really nice to see everyday Singaporeans away from the glitz

Nice experience

Edee_W, Apr 2025
We had a nice wet market tour and the opportunity to have toast for breakfast. We tried some snacks at the local food market. We made four dishes including shrimp rolls, chicken, rice and a dessert. Our our guide was very nice, and knowledgeable.

Very Enjoyable Experience

Claire_H, Mar 2025
We all thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Vivian was so knowledgable, but also such a warm, friendly person. The visit to the local wet-market was an excellent way to start, and very informative. Then we all took part in the cooking processes, and, of course the eating! Delicious!

Vidhya was an excellent guide. She was very informative about the local culture with her depth of knowledge and her cooking skills were amazing.

Disappointed

Adrian_C, Feb 2025
The location is shared with a bicycle rental store, its dirty and very cluttered totally unhygienic for cooking and way too small , toilet facilities were poor also

Best way to spend the morning in Singapore

Kelli_S, Dec 2024
Our chef, Collin, met us at the cooking school on time at 9am. We had a group of 4 (and 2 other couples) We immediately left for the wet market to shop fresh ingredients. We learned about the importance of choosing the right ingredients. I loved the individualized attention. We made 3 different dishes. All of which were fantastic, even for us first-timers. Thank you Collin for the wonderful experience!

Great Cultural Experience!

WNicholas_R, Dec 2024
My wife and I were traveling through Singapore on our honeymoon and this was such a great way to start one of our days here. Denise was so nice and gave us a great background on the history of Singapore, its people and these traditional dishes. The cooking class was so fun and we had a blast walking through the wet market learning about the food and culture. Highly recommend!

Do this cooking class if you have time!

Meredith_M, Oct 2024
A great cooking class that gives you a perspective on Singapore, its culture, and food. The host was fantastic and the food amazing! I’d say my only issue was that the food cooked was different than what was listed on Viator, but it was so good that it didn’t matter. Also, Viator doesn’t list the amount of time this class lasts, so we couldn’t plan anything after it. It took about 3.5 hours.

would do it again

AndrewJohn_F, Jan 2024
Colin the guide and chef was excellent and the trip was excellent all round 5 star we were the only couple that was not from Singapore which was a bit strange

Loved it!

Stefanie_S, Sep 2023
We loved this cooking class! It was so fun. Our instructor, Denise was AMAZING. The wet market tour was very educational and eye opening into the life of the Singaporean. She taught us how to order coffee (Singaporean style) and had us order it ourselves! We learned how to make multiple dishes and learned about local ingredients. The food turned out amazing (too much for us to finish ourselves!) and we ended up subsequently ordering these dishes at various spots throughout our trip:) This is a fun and educational class for all levels! Great cultural immersion. Highly highly recommend.

Delicious! 😋

Tevita_S, Sep 2023
The food turned out great, even though Im not that great of a cook! The wet market tour was fun and informative.

Wonderful experience!

Charlotte_L, Sep 2023
We really enjoyed Collin's market tour and cooking class. We learned so much about different foods in Singapore on the market tour. In the cooking class he gave us detailed explanations about why certain foods were cooked using a certain method. We were also introduced to ingredients that we had never had before! The meal was delicious and we look forward to trying them at home! In addition, he gave us suggestions for things to do in Singapore, as well as foods to try!

Let’s Go Cook!!

Everything was done very well from the authentic breakfast to the market to the classroom. We got a real taste of local culture and enjoyed preparing the delicious meal. Colin was superb: excellent English and very personable. We loved our day.

Amazing experience would definately do it again!

Angela_D, Jun 2023
Denise was a warm and welcoming host with lots of interesting history and information about Singapore and its food. We particularly loved the wet market visit and the menu itself was delicious

Nice Market Tour but Improvement Needed in the Cooking Class!

Mary_R, Feb 2023
My daughter and I learned a lot from Chef Colin Goh during the market tour. The cooking class however needs to improve: (1) Provide Recipe; (2) Take into consideration the guests' preferences like I'm allergic to seafoods and I want to cook Hainanese Chicken Rice - that I wrote or informed the operator beforehand, and yet on the menu that day was Prawns; (3) Chef Colin was not able to give enough assistance or directions that most of what we did turned out not good. I took a lot of cooking classes around the world and most through Viator and it is the 1st time that I was disappointed with the finished products. That this happened in Singapore was a surprise. I thought everything in this country was amazing.

Fantastic experience

It was really a fun morning and also educational. The food was yummy also! Denise was a great guide.

The wet market tour was...

JoEllen_K, Jul 2022
The wet market tour was interesting, We didn’t and haven’t received the recipes for what we cooked. I would have thought they would be handed out in the class. There was no refreshments til our lunch, there could have been water offers during the 3hrs. Colin was very informative and a great demonstrator
