Head out to Los Volcanes Complex National Park, which is a little over an hour from San Salvador, and journey up the highest volcano in El Salvador, the Santa Ana Volcano or Ilamatepec, with a 7,822-foot (2,384-meter) summit. Our tour guide Osmaro picked us up from our hotel to start our tour on time. The tour guide was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and we learned a lot of history. The view of the Santa Ana Volcano Early Hike and Coatepeque Lake were breathtaking, it was worth it. Highly recommend it.

Would highly recommend this tour. Osmaro was our guide and was so informative. Pick up was punctual and stops were made when asked. The hike itself was not too hard if you are physically fit but could be more difficult for those who are not used to hiking. There is an initial steep incline with terrain changing from forestry to unshaded rocky areas. The views throughout are amazing. Once reaching the crater, it is absolutely worth the hike. The lake is also absolutely beautiful with an opportunity to swim in it.

This hike was such an awesome experience! It is a moderate level hike with amazing views throughout it and and the end of it. Make sure to take good shoes (hiking boots made it so much easier) and sunscreen as the last part of the hike has no tree coverage. Afterwards we went into town had amazing sea food and an impromptu boat ride in lake Coatepeque. To top off this incredible experience, our guide Marvin was amazing. He is so patient and friendly as well as very knowledgeable of everything around. Would definitely recommend taking this hike with him if possible. Don’t forget to take cash to buy paletas at the top of the volcano.

A great half a day trip, with mind-blowing views. Our guide Herbert was a pleasure. Along the way, we learned many things about the history of El Salvador, and also about the volcanoes. The itinerary was also planned well so we could spend ample time at the peak and comfortanle hike up the mountain before it got crowded.

This was a fantastic tour! The company was very clear in communicating pick-up details and pick-up was timely. The tour itself was amazing. Rafa was an excellent guide. The hike was moderate so it gave good level of activity and the views at the top were amazing. We made it to the top before the mass of crowds arrived so we really got to enjoy the views and take nice photos.

Hebert our tour guide made the best day out of a cancelled hike due to wind conditions. The park closed the hike and Herbert quickly came up with an alternative plan to take us to the Cafe Albania for zip lines and the longest rainbow slide in the country and then to hot springs at Termales Santa Teresa where we also had lunch. It was a great day despite not doing the hike thanks to his great thinking and having an awesome plan B that everyone enjoyed.

I book this tour on a whim with some friends. I must say I was pleasantly surprised with the entire experience. Our tour guide Herbert was great. He joined us on the entirety of the hike and provided fun facts but the native people and language of El Salvador. Book this tour!

A tough climb, not for beginners but if you have moderate fitness this is a must. Our guide,Os, was amazing sharing constant knowledge and information about the environment, the volcano, the history and a love for the beauty of his country. The views were breathtaking. A spectacular day!

Spectacular views both on the hike up the volcano, at the top, and at lunch overlooking the lake. We also added on a stop at the Joya de Ceren Mayan site (UNESCO), which was very interesting and different than every other Mesoamerican site we have visited. Big thanks to our guide Herbert Burgos, who made the entire day much more interesting an informative. Herbert could answer all our questions, ranging from flora, fauna, geology, ancient history, recent history, and anything else about life in El Salvador. His English was excellent, he communicated the night before to confirm pickup, he was on time, and he made the experience enjoyable and memorable.

If you visit El Salvador 🇸🇻 this tour is an absolute must! This tour starts at 6am and you might think it’s a bit early but trust me, it is absolute worth it if you want to get the real Santa Ana Volcano experience, having the volcano basically to yourself. The guide is super knowledgeable and during your hike will break down every question that you have about El Salvador, its history, culture and people.

The best idea of this tour is the early hike, you can hike in peace without a crowd and when you reach the volcano, can take pictures without disturbances.
Herbert Burgos was amazing very knowledgeable, provided lots of information and made the trip very fun.
We got picked up from our Airbnb without extra cost. Herbert was very punctual, was there 15 minutes before. I really recommend this trip and ask to book with Herbert Burgos.

The early start and drive to Santa Ana Ilamatepec were worth it. Tough hike in parts, but a mostly steady climb with shade to begin! Osmaro was an incredible guide, provided plenty of extra info about El Salvador during the drives, and allowed us to set the pace during the hike. The views as we hiked were amazing as did the walk around the top of the volcano. The visit to Lake Coatepeque was beautiful too!

Worth the hike!
I’d take hiking boots with ankle support. It’s a long hike with loose dirt. The rocks are solid but the hiking boots or hiking shoes will give you the best grip going up.
Once at the top it’s windy so pending the time of year you may need a jacket.
Def worth the hike, the view is amazing!

What a wonderful experience this was! I got to see a beautiful side of my family’s country that I’ve never got to experience before, I was in awe. Due to the weather we weren’t able to climb to the top of the volcano, but our amazing tour guide Herbert found a way for us to still enjoy of our trip and get to see/experience new things El Salvador has got to offer. Herbert taught us lots of interesting facts about El Salvador and even taught us a few words of the original language! We had a great and would definitely use Eco Tours for our next trip. I highly recommend them. Herbert, thank you again for such an amazing time and for the new memories!

Great time hiking. The hike is rough, definitely have a little physical fitness. But it’s worth it. Herbert made the hike up smooth and fun. We were able to hike at our pace and stop when needed for a break. The view from the top is amazing and there’s ice cream at the top for extra motivation :)

Rafa was great, gave us a ton of history and information. We opted not to swim but to go to Vista lago (restaurant above the lake). The views at the volcano, hike, and restaurant were phenomenal. I would recommend this over a large group and the early morning start let's you avoid the crowds and heat.

This was a amazing experience! The view from the top of volcano was insane. Worth every step we had to take to reach the top. Our guide great and Helped us out and explained everything in detail. He went out of his way to make sure we had fun and was enjoyable. We even stopped at an awesome coffee shop which had great views of the lake. Definitely worth every penny.
