Loved the experience from start to finish. It was great to have a guide organize the transport to the hike spot and then accompany us. It would be impossible to do on our own. The best part was the hot chocolate at the top with the sunrise!

This was such an amazing experience! Yes, it did require us to wake up at 2:30 AM to make sure we get from Pana to San Pedro on time, but Vick was AMAZING and helped us coordinate a private boat at 3:30 AM! He was such an amazing tour guide, explaining the meaning behind the name and why the mountain is important in the Mayan culture. The sunrise definitely makes up for waking up early and the tiring hike. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone spending time in Lake Atitlan.

Unforgettable Experience

Valerie_W, Jul 2026
My fiance and I went up the mountain with our guide Micaela, it was a hard ascent but it was completely worth it. The view was unforgettable, with hot chocolate and pan dulce to go with it. Micaela was also an amazing guide, going at our pace and taking many breaks with us. She was also very kind, helping my fiance find a large stick in the forest to walk with as he had a bad knee. Thank you Micaela!! I think the entire experience made our guatemala trip!

Response from Host, Aug 2026

We are so proud and happy you had an unforgetteble experience with our guide Micaela. Also we really apreciate it for recommended us.

Horrible

nicole_y, Jun 2026
Absolutely horrible. I was with my kids and we were joined by 3 other members. While on the beginning I fell down the side of the mountain and sprained my ankle. One of the other female members began making fun of me and my daughter heard her. Then the owner of the tour denied my refund stating I was already injured and took the risk meanwhile I was not injured. So now I paid $129 to be injured not complete the tour and me made fun of. If I could I would rate this 0 stars

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Hello! We are very sorry about what happened, but one of your children mentioned to our guide and other travelers that you were already injured even before attempting the hike. It is unfortunate that you tried to place the blame entirely on us, given that we had arranged exclusive private transportation for you and your children; our bus took your family to the San Juan dock just 15 minutes after the hike began, because you decided not to continue—claiming, in order to justify your decision, that you had been injured after walking for only 10 minutes. We incur costs for guides and transportation regardless of the outcome, which is why we were unable to issue a refund; furthermore, in all the years we have been running this hike, no one has ever been injured—certainly not within the first 10 minutes. We are very sorry and hope you recover soon; we will take your feedback into account to improve our tours.

Rebecca_A, Apr 2026
Nice early start to get there before the crowds, steep ascent to the top, but Jeffrey our guide asked us regularly if we wanted to rest. When we got to the top we were offered Coffee and bread, which was welcomed by us all. Then the main act to watch a beautiful sunrise over Lake Atitilan - unbelievable views and loads of snaps to be had. A fantastic experience for us alll!!! Oh and we saw two volcanoes erupting with small plumes of smoke!!!!

Our guide was communicative and went at our pace. We needed to take many breaks but he was helpful and had no issues with it! The company itself was difficult to reach to confirm pickup location and time but after contacting Viator support they reached out immediately. Overall it was good and I’d book again.

Olivia_K, Apr 2026
Very punctual! Pretty easy short hike to the top of Indian nose! Thought it was so sweet they had hot cocoa or coffee for everyone. The tour guide was informative and made sure to take enough breaks. He was on the top of making sure we were all together (it gets crowded going up) Got to spend, what I thought, more than enough time at the top. Wish the clouds weren’t so active but that’s nothing they can control. When they did pick us up from San Marcos they were right on time. Pick up from San Marcos is the basketball court- not your hotel. My ticket pickup was wrong and I’m glad I reached out.

Poor communication

Jessie_D, Mar 2026
Short story: Terrible communication, no actual guide, larger group than advertised. Better off going on your own or with someone cheaper because you all end up going to the same place with the same snacks. Long story: We had to send 2 emails, a text, and contact Viator to try and get a pick up time. It wasn’t until 8:30pm the night before we were told we were being picked up at 4am. We were told they couldn’t pick us up at our accommodation and wanted us to meet down the street. There were lots of street dogs barking at us and our driver was 25 mins late, he was not the tour representative we’d spoke to and didn’t speak any English (just kept telling us to get in the car). Once we got there our “guide” didn’t tell us anything and only spoke in Spanish. We would have to specifically ask her to translate points in English for us. She then added other travellers from other groups to ours (making it a much larger group) and then would walk off without us. Everyone gets to the same point on the mountain, they have a big seating area all the tours share and give you all the same food and drinks. Tbh I would just go by yourself and wait for a group to walk up and follow them. Or just go with someone cheaper - you don’t get what you pay for.

Response from Host, Mar 2026

Hello! We're so sorry to hear about your experience. We provided you a private car with spanish speaker driver (sorry for that) also a in the trail the guide that speak english waited for you. Unfortunately, you didn't let us know soonet what you did not like , and we were able to resolve the issue. How ever thank you for your feedback, as it helps us improve our tours and communication. We hope you're okay after walking in the middle of the night, and there are usually no stray dogs in the area where you started. Please don't share fake information !

This was a short, sweet,...

Lindsay_H, Feb 2026
This was a short, sweet, and mildly challenging hike. Dressing in layers is essential as the trail starts off very cold due to the early start time, warms up significantly once your heart rate rises, and then becomes extremely windy and chilly again at the lookout. Jeff and our driver did arrive on time and got us safely to the hike and back, which was appreciated. The only real downside was the timing. The 3:50 am pickup felt unnecessarily early, as we reached the top first and ended up waiting over an hour for sunrise, spending nearly two hours total at the summit. Since groups arrive in waves, the promised coffee and tea weren’t served until everyone made it up, and although snacks were supposed to be included, none were provided. The sunrise itself was lovely, but choosing your spot early makes a big difference as the area fills up quickly, and getting a clean photo without people in the frame becomes tricky. The hike is mostly stairs on the way up, so it’s worth keeping fitness levels in mind when preparing. Overall, it’s a memorable experience with great views!

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Hola! Thank you so much for review us we totally understand that wait around 2 hours is not confortable and you did not receive coffe or hot chocolate and we really sorry for that we will take in account this part. Also we really apreciate your sincerity that arriving early before other groups makes a big diference for pictures and enjoy the views. Always you are welcome to come back lake atitlan Guatemala and If you come we hope lead you in a tour more .

They arrived to pick us...

Malcolm_R, Jan 2026
They arrived to pick us up slightly ahead of schedule (which is definitely better than being late) and were great. They got us to the trailhead in good time and we were some of the first people at the summit, so we had the place to ourselves for a little bit. Great guides and a great experience.

Late pickup & nauseating drive to trailhead

Cindy_L, Jan 2026
We were told the pickup time was at 3:50am at our designated location. This was confirmed via phone call the day before. The morning of, we waited at our pickup spot but the bus didn’t arrive until 4:20am. There was no communication except for a “sorry for the delay, we will be there in 7mins” text at 4:13am. Since the pickup was late, the drive up to the trailhead was very nauseating as it was obvious that the guide was trying to make up time. We were being whipped back and forth in the van going up windy mountain roads, and I felt so dizzy and nauseous when I got off the bus. After the tour, we were chatting with other visitors in our hostel and they told us that they booked directly with a local tour group (you will see lots of those walking around town) who picked them up on time and paid 1/3 of the price of this tour.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

Hello! Cyndy we reallly sorry that the guíe picked up late he woke up late and we ask for an apologise and we understand your feelings and for sure other people also offer the tours but they don’t speak english and they went by a chicken bus that it’s worst if there is a way to fix it will be a pleasure please contact us and we could offer a way to fix it

Best View!!

Nice guided hike for sunrise

Audrey_F, Jan 2026
Enjoyed this sunrise hike experience. The day before the event the agency provided a pickup time (4:10am for us from our Airbnb outside San Marcos in early January) and the driver/guide were on time to get us. The hike is only about 30min, so while it’s pretty steep uphill it’s short. At the top there are a bunch of benches and there were probably around 100 people by the time the sun rose. Coffee and hot chocolate were provided. On the way back, our guide stopped in town for us to grab cash from an ATM which was appreciated.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

We are so glad to know you had a nice sunrise experience with us and we really apréciate it because you took your time and shared your experience with us and we hope some day we could guide you in a experience more !

10/10, must do it

Amber_M, Jan 2026
An absolute must-do if staying around Lake Atitlan. We stayed in San Pedro and the tour company picked us up in a convenient location near our Airbnb. Francisco was our guide and he was very accommodating. The hike is not easy, you are more or less climbing up an infinite flight of stairs, but it is well worth it. The tour company also dropped us off at the same convenient location after the hike was over.

Response from Host, Jan 2026

We are so happy to know you liked the tour with us and Francisco is a Great guide and we really apreciate it for revcommended us ! We hope some day we could guide you in a tour more

Fantastic Hike and Views

Pamela_T, Dec 2025
I’m 62 and honestly, this hike was a little tough for me—but so worth it! The trail is steep and a bit challenging, but our guide Vick was absolutely incredible. He was patient, encouraging, and made sure I felt safe the whole way up. Thanks to his support, I made it to the top and the view was breathtaking—truly one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen. It felt like such an accomplishment, and I couldn’t have done it without his guidance. If you’re thinking about doing this hike, don’t let age or doubts stop you. Go for it! Just take your time and trust your guide. Highly recommend this experience! ---

Early morning. It very cool. The top has a nice seating area! Hike is steep but doable. Definitely easier with a group because you take lots of breaks. We did have to get a private boat from Pana to the meeting point which was kind of annoying but our fault!

Challenging hike-amazing guides!

Lisa_J, Nov 2025
We came in from Sana Cruz so the tour operators scheduled a 330am boat pick up from our house. Communication was great and Captain was exactly on time. Driver picked us up from the dock and we were on our way to the trail. Probably a 30 minute car ride to trailhead. Two guides accompanied us-Victor and Jeffrey. We had people in our group who found the hike very strenuous so Jeffrey stayed back with us while Victor went on with the rest of the group. Jeffrey made sure we were okay while also managing the schedule to get us there in time for sunrise. More people than expected-over 100-what an incredible view! They served tea, coffee and hot chocolate at the top. Bring a light jacket or sweatshirt if you are cold natured. Highly highly highly recommend this tour company!

Beautiful sunrise with erupting volcano in the background!

Richard_R, Nov 2025
Amazing views once you get to the top! The problem is getting to the top LOL! We were picked up at 4AM which is way too early for me when on vacation but I wanted to give the tour a try. If the guides are behind schedule in any way do not be surprised if you are rushed a little. Sunrise doesn't wait for delays! Hiking up the hill is a challenge but manageable - it's just not fun so early in the morning. There are a lot of tours going up and on the top - I would say at least a 100 but there's plenty of space. In my pictures there's a little puff of smoke which is the volcano erupting. I liked our guide as he really made sure we were very comfortable. I highly recommend doing this tour!

Challenging but beautiful

Rosaly_M, Aug 2025
The view is really stunning and I am glad I did the hike! However, there was very little breaks and when one, not long enough to fully rest before going again. My guess is that the guide didn't want us to miss the sunrise, but the hike was really challenging for that matter. The hot chocolate and the pastries at the top really did make up for it tho!

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Amazing Views

Angeline_S, May 2025
The sunrise and view were the highlight of our trip. Words and pictures can’t do it justice. The only reason I’m not giving the experience a 5 is because our tour guide was ill at the last minute and it was confusing to figure out which van and tour guide to go with. Would still recommend!
