Sumidero Canyon is beautiful. We had two stops to see the canyon from the mountain views, and then took the boat ride. This part for me was the best -to see the nature from the river. The tour ends in Chiapa de Corso, a small vilage that can also be explored or you can have a lunch there. The tour guide Julio Cezar was very kind to help me get a taxi back to Tuxtla as this seemed to be quite difficult to get from small villages, and no uber. Deffinitelly is more convenient to have your accomodation in San Cristobal and trips like this are then much more convenient.

The driver could not find us. We waited 1hour in the sun. We were told there would be an English guide but there was not. We left the tour early.

We booked an English guided tour, and instead we communicated in English only with the other travelers. Both tour guide/driver and boat captain were speaking only in Spanish. The driving was a near death experience.
Not recommended at all, even though Sumidero canyon was amazing!

Our driver, Jonathan, was a very nice person. We were almost the last couple to be picked up, so we did not get to sit together on the van. Which was unfortunate, and everyone kept the same seats on the return trip. The ride down the mountain to get to the canyon was a bit harrowing, but luckily there were no incidents The canyon boat ride is a wonderful experience, with interesting wildlife. The breeze helped make the heat bearable; I also got my blouse wet so that the evaporation would help. One also needs a hat that will tie on, because the winds are intense in parts of the canyon. It turned out to be 97 degrees Farenheit when we landed at Chiapa de Corzo, and we ate comida there. Not a great restaurant choice; the worst meal I have ever had in Mexico and we were overcharged by about 100 pesos, not realizing it until we were up in town. I would recommend taking a sandwich or something. To find relief from the intense heat and humidity, we ducked into the pharmacy on the square and also the OXXO (like a 7 Eleven store). We lingered as long as we could in both shops, haha! Again, the boat ride through the canyon was so good that any other minor discomforts should not count.

I booked the English tour from San Cris to Sumidero Canyon. Note that the trip is led by a guide that speaks both Spanish and English to the guests. So you’re paying $27 more than the Spanish speaking guests, but you’re all on the same tour. You drive around for about 3.5 hours in the beginning, only seeing two viewpoints, and part of that is to pick up guests in Tuxtla (not really worth all the time in my opinion?). It is a LOT of driving when the highlight is the boat trip in the canyon. Then there is another 1-1.5 hours of driving at the end. They picked up at hotels in the beginning, they will not drop back off at hotels in the end.
Now the canyon boat trip, the guide speaks only Spanish! So the guide who is in the van does not really teach you much about the canyon or the region. So the part of the tour that you may actually want to learn about, the river boat ride, is in Spanish. It’s still so beautiful and totally worth it. There are tons of birds, crocodiles to be seen. I loved it. But to pay that much extra to have a tour in English did not make sense. (Only the car ride is in English).
Viator was kind enough to refund my money for the difference of Spanish price vs English because truly this tour was just in Spanish.
The tour guide for the van did not seem to like his job very much, that’s ok, I’m sure it’s not an easy industry. But he would ask me a question in English (where am I from, what is my line of work), then say something to all of the Spanish speaking guests and everyone would laugh. Overall I felt uncomfortable with him. He was not kind, was not welcoming. I typically prefer booking AirBnB experiences but unfortunately they did not have Sumidero Canyon available.
This ended up being about 5 hours of driving, and 1.5 hours on the river. The actual drive to get to and from Sumidero from San Cris I believe could be less time than that, so I don’t know that I would book this again. But, like I said, grateful Viator refunded me the difference of Spanish vs English tour prices.

The tour was supposed to be in English, but not a single person on the tour spoke or understood any English. We got lost twice, which was extremely stressful since no one could communicate with us. The ticket explicitly stated that hotel pickup and drop-off were included, but in the middle of nowhere, the driver told us the tour was finished and we had to get back to the hotel on our own. After a long and overwhelming struggle with the driver’s supervisor, he eventually agreed to drop us off, which was really frustrating. This was completely unfair and very stressful. I am requesting a full refund. We had a terrible experience. I was considering disputing this but decided to contact Viator first to see if they would refund us before I take that step. We paid three times more than regular tickets for exactly the same things, and the tour wasn't even in English as promised.

I verified with our operator and the service was provided as accordingly, the english guide departed from San Cristobal with the tour, for the return a meeting point is given during the route.
I have the screenshot conversation between you and our operator and you just contacted us to verify the dop off at your location and we provided it with no problem since indeed it is included.
It was a pleasant trip. Although I don’t speak any Spanish I still enjoyed it.
It would be great if they have English guide.

We had a great experience with this tour of Sumidero Canyon. An English speaking guide was waiting for us and they drove us to Sumidero Canyon where we had an amazing tour of the canyon. Afterwards they drove us directly to our hotel in San Cristobal. The vehicle was air conditioned and clean, the driver drove safe. We couldn't have asked for more.

It was a great tour - We were concerned at the start that this tour would be longer than advertised but we were back on time to San Cristóbal de Las Casas to eat and then head to the airport for our night flight. Felt safe all the time.
Of all the tour operators we interacted with - this one was the one with the friendliest driver and the newest (and best-kept) vehicle.

The boat trip was very good. The guides were professional and informative. However, there is no hike nor swimming as indicated in the literature you market. It was way over-sold and for that reason, 3-stars.

About hiking or swimming is not allowed since this is a UNESCO World Heritage, as written in the description there is wildlife such as crocodiles so is not safe or possible to swim. We first did two viewpoints of the canyon from above and afterwards we went on the boat through the canyon. Wonderful! Our captain was very knowledgeable about the canyon and the species living there. He let us see monkeys, a crocodile and a iguana. The boat ride ended in Chiapa de Corso where we had about 1h30 of free time which was frankly too long. It wasn't really appealing to have lunch there so we decided to have lunch back in Sant Cristóbal.

This was a highlight of our Mexico travels so far. Every part was so convenient in terms of picking us up from the airport and then taking us on to San Cristobal afterwards. The tour itself was amazing. Our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. The canyon was stunning and the boat guide knew exactly where to find the crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas etc. Highly recommend this tour!

The canyon is amazing and the trip was well organized. The driver picked us up at Tuxla airport and was already there waiting for us when our flight landed and dropped us at our hotel in San Cristobal de las casas. The guided in the canyon stopped at the strategic points to explain and let us take pictures. We even saw crocodiles, monkeys, an iguana and a lot of birds.

This was such a great experience. It was only me and an older couple on the tour. Our guide was super knowledgeable and was super kind. My Spanish is passable but at the times I didn’t understand, he translated for me one-on-one. He also taught me how to say phrases in Tzotzil which was super useful for Chiapa de Corzo. I also had an unforgettable meal there. Thanks to his experience and knowledge, I had an amazing time. I even booked two more tours through his company because I had an amazing time. Jalapeño Tours in San Cristóbal de las Casas is the local company. I booked tours to Chamula and Zinacantán and another one to Palenque.

The driver did not have good attitude, to begin with when he went for us to the hotel he went ahead and we walked behind him.
When he came for other people, his truck was going away and we yelled at him that the truck was going.
For the meal he took us to a law firm that had no food, no water, no soft drinks, when we finished eating instead of telling us directly since he was next to us, he told the waiter to tell us that we could leave and that he picked us up two blocks away.
This is not the first time we have gone on this tour but it is the first and last time we have taken it with this Enterprise.
