My trip was incredible! I only had half a day while traveling for work. I am happy that I decided to visit great salt lake. My tour guide, Phil, is the best! I learned a lot from him. I can’t wait to return with my family on a longer trip.

Overview

Utah's wilderness is easily accessible from downtown Salt Lake when you visit Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake. Afterwards, hike to Buffalo Point via a moderate and well traveled .9 mile trail to catch the sunset.
  • Take a sunset hike to Buffalo Point
  • Look out the island's bison herd and other wildlife

Phil is a wildlife biologist and very knowledgeable about the history surrounding Antelope Island. You’re in for a treat if you get him as your guide.

I’m sure this would’ve been a great tour, but we weren’t able to go on it as the van broke down so they had to cancel the tour.

Great tour!

We had a great time on the tour. The weather turned off bad for the day we originally scheduled, and the company was very accommodating to let us change dates. Garth our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area and Wildlife. He was patient with us when we wanted to linger; we never felt rushed. We saw lots of bison, antelope, and deer, plus a couple of rabbits and coyotes. And the best part of the trip- the sunset was out of this world!

Beautiful experience!

Our guide Cramon was fabulous! He was very knowledgeable about the area and the animals. He gave us plenty of picture opportunities and was very accommodating to the group. We saw LOTS of wildlife at every turn and The sunset was gorgeous. Our guide let us know ahead of time to wear long clothes because of the mosquitoes, which was a lifesaver because man there were a lot of those and they are vicious. He also provided bug spray which was another lifesaver. Water and light snacks were also provided.

This was an awesome little trip! It’s beautiful and easily accessible for anyone. I was in a mixed group of adults solo, couples, and a mother young daughter. Garth was great!

Nice ride out to Antelope with local information from our guide. We saw plenty of animals. Tour was well paced, giving ample time to observe/photograph wildlife and then moving on to explore more. Seeing the owl was a highlight we would have completely missed had we done this on our own.

Amazing Tour - January 2025

Craig_R, Sep 2025
Cramon led an amazing tour. We were able to see at least four different animals and there was lots of action going on. At one point the bison crossed the road and ran off towards a water hole. The sunset was magical. It was a brilliant opportunity to see more of Utah on my first visit and I was amazed by how beautiful it was.

Very fun and informative

Teresa_L, Sep 2025
It was fun. We spent a lot of time driving around picking everyone up and then getting to the island. The trip describes seeing many many different kinds of animals but in reality this is not true and never will be. We did see buffalo, owls and some sort of deer. The mile walk to see the sunset was only several yards. I think it’s a little pricey for what you get especially since a great deal of the 5 hours are spent picking people up and dropping them off. Our actual trip was just over 4 hours. Cramon our tour guide was the best ever! Absolutely loved him🧡. He made the trip worth it!

Underwhelmed

Donald_M, Sep 2025
I thought this tour was very overpriced for what you got. Cramon, our guide, was very informative and engaging. However, you basically ride in a van for 4 hours, 1.5 of which is entire to the state park and only got out twice. Several herds of bison were seen but that was about it. I would say for what you get, this tour was worth about $50-$60 a person and not $145 per person

Sorry to hear about your experience. Did you get out for the hour long hike that we do?

Amandha Rocks!

Maureen_H, Aug 2025
Our tour with Amandha on Antelope Island was absolutely unforgettable! From start to finish, she created such a warm, engaging experience for our group. The bison tour was truly magical—being surrounded by a herd as they crossed the road was something we’ll be talking about for years. Amandha shared fascinating facts about the island’s wildlife and history in a way that was both informative and fun. The sunset hike was the perfect end to the day. Amandha made it feel peaceful and personal, pointing out little details in the environment we never would’ve noticed on our own. Watching the sunset over the Great Salt Lake, with Kate stopping to take photos of bugs and soak in the moment, felt like something out of a dream. Amandha’s passion for the island and her genuine care for the people on her tours shines through. This wasn’t just a tour—it was a beautiful, grounding experience that we’ll always be grateful for. Highly recommend!

Nice drive out to Antelope Island park. Saw a lot of Bison - both in large herds in the distance, and a few that were very close to the road! Also some Pronghorns. Evening seems like a good time of day to go to this park, the animals are active and the sunset was beautiful.

Safe to go Solo

If you don't have much time to see SLC highlights - this is a must see. The beautiful salt lake and the wildlife is an incredible experience to take in nature, animals and stunning sunset. Highly recommend if you only have a short stay.

Great experience!

Tour guide, Cramon, excellent — prior text communication, knowledgeable enthusiastic, can spot wildlife, took great picture of me with herd of bison, great timing for hike. Had an amazing experience!

We did see a large herd...

MARY_M, Jul 2025
We did see a large herd of bison and an antelope. We did not see very much of the island. We spent about 20-25 minutes watching the bison at a distance. We saw a short distance of the east side and then drove over to the sunset point. I wish we could have seen more of the island and the terrain. The low rating is based on the guide. She could not answer some basic questions we asked about predators and other wildlife on the island, we did hear about her personal history most of the time.

Amazing

Amazing tour. Garth was so knowledgeable and funny. We saw hundreds of Bison and got within 10 feet of them.

Best Tour for Enjoying Salt Lake City Nature!

Anonymous, Jul 2025
The tour was absolutely perfect! Everything was well organized, and the explanations about Utah were very informative. The island is the perfect place to enjoy nature in Salt Lake City, and you can even see animals, especially buffaloes! During sunset, the water reflects a beautiful pink color, which makes the experience even more magical. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to explore the natural beauty of SLC!

Buffalos, Baby Owl, & Deer Sightings & Golden Hour Hike

Amy_T, Jun 2025
I was in Salt Lake on temporary assignment for College Board AP Reading & someone said she booked this tour after our work day. She asked me to join her, but it was sold out. After seeing her pictures, I booked it solo for the next day. I wasn’t going to miss seeing Antelope Island after traveling from the East Coast! Going solo was a bit out of my comfort zone, but Sarah, the fabulous guide was so welcoming and showed us all a great time. I discovered that a number of the people who booked the tour were also working for the college board and we all had fun. Sarah knew all the best spots to find animals and explained safety, history, etc. The hike was what you wanted it to be. Some people climbed the mountain. Others walked and enjoyed the area near the van. The sunset was breath taking. She drove us back to all of our hotels upon request. We got back to Salt Lake. It’s around 10:45. Worth every penny.
