Itinerary
Get picked up in the morning from select hotels in Pula or Medulin and travel aboard an air-conditioned coach to the Istrian Peninsula, where you’ll arrive around mid-morning.
Start in the historic city of Bale, where you can take a stroll on its windy streets that circle around a local hill. After 45 minutes in Bale, proceed to Rovinj, known to locals as “Little Venice.” Spend 2.5 hours discovering Rovinj’s collection of tall townhouses and cobblestone streets, marveling at its similarities to Venice, its better-known Italian neighbor.
Leave Rovinj and head to Grinzi, where you’ll meet friendly local donkey and partake in an Istrian-style lunch for one hour. Following lunch, continue by coach to Porec, where you’ll have two hours to explore its ancient architecture. Learn about the town’s history dating back more than 2,000 years as you walk the timeless streets of Decumanus and Cardo Maximus. You’ll also get to visit the ruins of the former Roman temples dedicated to Neptune and Mars, and tour the Euphrasian basilica, an ancient monument built during the city’s Byzantine era.
At 6pm you’ll depart Porec and return to your hotel, arriving back in Pula and Medulin at 7pm.

Visiting the villages and towns on this tour was a great experience. The tour guide, Val, was so knowledgeable and fun to listen to with the history and stories she shared. She was respectful and polite and overall awesome! We had a great lunch in Grizini (sp?) and loved Ranji and Porec. This was a worthwhile tour and a good value for what you pay.

Really enjoyable trip to see another part of Istria, from the tourist resorts of Porec and Rovinj, to the lesser know Bale. Mauro was an excellent guide, approachable and full of regional knowledge.

We enjoyed the trip overall, the guide and driver were excellent.
Given that the title of the trip mentions two main cities we felt that the trip to Bale could have been skipped. It is mentioned on the itinerary and is a lovely spot. However it takes around 45 minutes off the day, which we felt would have been better to allow more free time in Porec. We ended up dashing around the Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 20 minutes which was a real shame.
The lunch was lovely and a real taste of the region. Overall a great day and glad we went.

Great guide but why we had to travel to the middle of nowhere for a meal that was awful is beyond me. I’d rather have bought my own meal in Rovinj or Porec and had more time there

Visiting Porec and Rovinj were very high on my list. The village of Bale/Valle was a plus as well as the fantastic traditional lunch in Grzini.
Our guide was excellent describing all the major landmarks. It was a very full day but I’m so glad I booked this excursion.

Though I enjoyed the trip I would just like to point out a few things which might help others thinking of booking. The length of the trip states 8hrs(approx), I cannot see how this would ever be achieved. This is my experience.
I was picked up at 9am from Verudela Pula, there were already people on board. We then went to Medulin to pick up more. We left there just before 9.30. The first stop was at Bale, a 30 minute drive, yes the village was pretty, but am going to suggest this time might be better added to one of the main towns. We were there for around 40 minutes.
We then drove to Rovinj, arriving at 11. We were escorted by the guide into the main cafe area, stopping a few times en route to be given snippets of information, which unless you were standing very close to her, you probably wouldn't have caught much. It was not a microphone and ear piece tour. Once in this area, she gave a long talk, while we were standing in the sunshine. Because of the heat it was too long for some people, and it was only 25th May. The area she chose to stand had no shaded area at all. Then we moved off into the old town and the cobbled streets, on the way to the church. Some travellers decided they didn't have the energy for the walk and climb to the church so decided to break away and do their own thing. It was already 11.45 by this time, and most of it had been standing still, listening to the guide.
After the visit to the church there was free time until meeting back at the coach at 1.30.
It was then a 30minute drive into the countryside for lunch. Arriving Grzini at 2. Although it was a pleasant meal, I just think there was too much time given to this experience. Besides the 30 mins travelling, we were there 1hr 45mins, and then we had to travel to Porec which took another 45 mins. On google maps it says even by bus you could do the Rovinj to Porec journey in 50 minutes. I would have preferred having the extra travel time and time given to the set lunch, in one of the main towns. There was an abundance of restaurants in both towns, and you could easily have had a meal in an hour, giving yourself more time to explore and enjoy Rovinj and Porec.
By the time we got to Porec it was 4.30. There was quite a way to walk from the coach to the narrow streets of old town. Some people decided to sit it out at the bus station. For those who did make the walk, and listen to the guide, the decision at the end was whether to go to the basilica or explore the old town, when there should have been just enough time for a drink or ice cream. There certainly wasn't after hurrying around the basilica, clock watching, aware of the return walk ahead. We were only in Porec 1hr 30 mins, which is why I think too much time was given to driving to the village, and having lunch.
So, we set off at 6pm, arriving Medulin at 7. I got off at 7.20 (still having a 15 minute walk to my hotel room), and there were still others to get off later. So in my case from Verudela Pula the amount of time on the tour was 10hrs 20mins. I think the tour time should say 10-10.30 hrs approx, I can't see any occasion where it would be done in 8, as we had 30 mins less than advertised in Porec.
It was a very comfortable drive in the coach, the driver managed the country lanes very well, and was always prompt when getting back to the meeting points

The actual trip was great, excellent guide and sights. Lunch was tasty but heavy stodgy food is not good in 33 degrees! Booking experience shocking - given different times, then told the trio didn’t exist - when the name of it had changed!

Wow from start to finish. Even though a full day, pickup from 9:30and dropped off at hotel 7pm it didn't seem long. Lovely places to see and the English speaking guide was very informative.
I really enjoyed the authentic meal in the little village plus the added local wine went down well.
"Little Venice" was stunning and we had time to look around ourselves after the little guided tour.
On a whole I would recommend this trip as very good value for money. Just remember to wear good footwear as can be slippy underfoot at times due to the ancient roads/paths/cobbles.

Loved it! Fantastic day. Got to see some gorgeous parts of Istria. The tour was a good mix of information from the knowledgeable guide with free time to explore or grab a drink. Lunch was at a restaurant in a village. Excellent quality and an opportunity to try some typical istrian food.

Super journée ! Notre guide, Mauro, était super ! De très bonnes explications de l’Histoire d’Istrie et une joie de vivre qui fait du bien !
Nous avons eu un repas typique de la région qui était délicieux !
La journée n’est pas trop épuisante, les temps de trajets ne sont pas long. Nous avons eu environ 30min de car entre chaque ville. (Merci à notre chauffeur Séverino pour cette conduite en toute sécurité.)
Tout est bien répartit, assez de temps libre pour aller faire un tour par nous même et boire un verre.
Je recommande à 100% cette excursion.
