Wonderful afternoon on Silk Island. Great to be in the countryside. Really interesting visit to the silk farm and a quick stop at a place making tofu skin. Stopped at a beautifully painted nun temple. Lovely meal by the river as the sun set. Mon, our guide, was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this trip to escape the hustle of the city.

Traveling through Phnom Penh and the Silk and Mekong islands with Suk Mon and Chhel was an unforgettable experience. Suk Mon served as our guide, bringing deep knowledge, thoughtful explanations, and a spirit of adventure to every stop. His ability to connect us with the rhythms of Cambodian life, whether introducing us to silk weavers, explaining the interdependence of family businesses, or guiding us through sunbaked villages, made the journey both educational and inspiring. Alongside him, Chhel, an experienced tuk tuk driver and proud grandfather of three, navigated the bustling streets of Phnom Penh and the quiet paths of the islands with remarkable skill and warmth. Together, they created a seamless balance: Suk Mon as the storyteller and cultural interpreter, and Chhel as the trusted navigator who carried us safely and comfortably between city and countryside. Highlights included distinguishing between different herbs, medicinal plants, and crops, on local farms, learning about silk and cotton weaving, visiting soybean producers, and enjoying a delicious lunch at a floating restaurant on Mekong Island, complete with fresh coconut water and hammocks by the river. Thanks to their guidance and care, we witnessed firsthand the many ways families sustain themselves and contribute to Phnom Penh, leaving us with memories of not just a tour, but a heartfelt connection to Cambodian life.

My wife and I live in Cambodia (Siem Reap) but wanted to take a tour with visiting family because it's just easier and a great way to see things you would otherwise miss on your own or just getting a generic tuktuk driver.
First off, our guide Knut was incredible and made us feel welcomed and cared for the entire time. He answered all of our questions, took us behind the scenes in rural areas to see the real Cambodia, had us laughing, and is just the nicest dude you'll ever meet.
The tour itself is hands down one of the best bang for your buck experiences I've taken. Round trip transport, all expenses included, and even a meal at the end? Yeah, it's a steal! Not to mention a super authentic experience all around.
I don't love Phnom Penh so this was a great way to get out of the city and into nature, meet locals, and learn about how people outside the city live day to day life.
It's a great experience for families, couples, solo travellers etc and I think everyone who takes this tour will walk away with a deeply enriching cultural experience. Again, cheers Knut, you're the man!

Wow today was an incredible outing away from the bustling business of Phnom Penh. We enjoyed ferry rides, tours through farm land, many fruit, eggplant, lemon grass, corn, rice paddies, and of course the magical world of silk, a shared meal, shared fruit. Our Tuk Tuk driver did a great job all the day and Sey our guide was very informative, funny, kind and gentle. This tour has been a highlight for us.

Starting with the ferry ride over the Mekong River, it was an extraordinary day. From the vibrant sights & smells in the local market, to fantastic hand woven colorful floor mats, to the labor intensive process of silkworm production & intricate weaving on wooden looms & finally the manufacture of bead curd in the grueling heat, we were awed by the incredible talent & industry of the Cambodian people. A great experience which we highly recommend!

The guide was great. He told us about the local Cambodian culture. The ferry ride on the Mekong was memorable. We visited. colourful local markets and a silk farm where they showed us how to spin silk. And showed us how the silkworms are harvested to make silk. We walked through a village and had local Cambodian lunch on a floating restaurant. We loved it.

This tour was great! We went out of Phnom Penh by tuk tuk and spent the afternoon visiting various islands and seeing a range of rural lifestyles and crafts. We also visited a couple of beautiful temples and a nunnery which were amazing, then finished up with dinner at a local restaurant. Our guide was really wonderful and was so helpful making the day work out well for us. Driving on and off the various ferries in a tuk tuk was hilarious, and the whole experience was just one of the best things I’ve ever done in SE Asia.

We booked this tour on a last minute, but it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The tour takes you to see non touristy part of Phnom Penh, from the ferry used by commuters through ride through small villages and through fields and visit of local temple. Our guide and tuk tuk driver were both very friendly. Guide was very knowledgable and willing to share information about Cambodia, which showed his love of his country. Dinner at the local restaurant overlooking the river, was very peaceful and tasteful. It was a perfect tour to get closer to real Cambodia.

An incredible day with Thong Chea our tour guide and founder of Vana Adventure Travel and Yat our tuk tuk driver.
After a short and picturesque view of Phonm Penh crossing of the Mekong River, we arrived at one of the islands on the trip.
Throughout the day, Thong took us through the countryside, stopping at rice, water-lily and ginger fields explaining how the families own the fields, how they sow, grow and rotate crops throughout the year. we even got to smell fresh ginger leaves.
We stopped off at one to the silk makers homes and had some fruit snacks before given a tour and watched silk scarves being made and how the process from silkworm to product is done.
We drove through many small villages on the tuk tuk, sampling life on the islands. And walked around a lovely pagoda temple on one of the islands.
Thong took us to a place by the river, owned by a family and we had lunch on a floating dining area on the river.
The food was amazing and we had our first taste of Krud beer, which was light and very tasty.
We drove some more around the wonderful countryside and crossing islands.
It was a hot day, but cooler than the city, but there was plenty of cold water to drink onboard the tuk tuk.
It was a delightful, informative and fun day out of the city. Highly recommend booking this trip.
Thong was a fantastic guide and we asked about him and his family and he had a fascinating story to tell.
A highlight of out holiday in Cambodia.

This was a fantastic tour of the country side of silk island in Phnom Penh. We were picked up by our tour guide and owner Mr Thong Chea, and driven safely by our Tuk tuk driver. We got to catch a ferry across to Silk Island seeing the area around the river.
The tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared a lot with us about the area, farms and Cambodia history.
We visited a family run silk farm where we had fresh fruits and steamed cake. We were shown the process of how silk is made and weaved, we even got to have a try at weaving.
We saw many farms along the way of bananas, taro, ginger and rice.
We found the family owned soya bean curd business and saw the process of making the curd, and getting to taste some also.
Finally we enjoyed a lunch on a relaxing floating restaurant. A great way to finish off an excellent tour.
Highly recommend this tour to see the countryside.

I had no idea the process involved in producing a silk scarves or sarongs. It’s so complicated and takes so much patience. It makes me appreciate the product more knowing now that so much work is put into producing it.
Mihail_D, Jan 2024
Terrible experience! To start with the ‘guide’—not knowledgeable and professional at all. He was more interested in our country than sharing any knowledge about Cambodia. The silk farm was not a farm at all! Two or three ladies pretended they were working and producing silk when they saw us coming, selling as if it were locally produced, but actually storing packets of ready-made scarfs. Dinner was awful. How can you take tourists to such a dirty, disgusting place? They brought crockery with ants, and the guide and the driver, who were sharing the dinner with us, couldn’t manage to clear the cutlery and plates. Not a word to the waitress! Then the food—awful, with ants and wasps inside! Avoid the company by all means!
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Dear Mihail_D,
Thank you for taking the time to join our tour and providing feedback about the trip. To be honest, I am not one to criticize without a basis.
Firstly, our trained guide ensures to provide all information related to the tour. Therefore, it is challenging for us to hire a non-stop speaking guide as you may desire.
Secondly, the silk farm in Cambodia is not a large commercial farm; it operates as a family business. Our team does not engage in shopping or purchasing items there. We simply bring our guests to observe local silk weaving. If you prefer a larger store, we are aware that Phnom Penh has many, especially at the Russian Market and Central Market.
Regarding restaurants and food, it's not the first time we have taken clients there. We understand that local businesses may not resemble fancy restaurants, but previous client reviews suggest satisfaction with the food. We agree with you about the presence of ants and other insects, which is inevitable due to the proximity to the river, farmland, and evening time activities. When the lights are on, they tend to be more noticeable.
Lastly, our guide and driver dined with you. We allow this to demonstrate the fairness of our tours; we don't segregate them for meals, and we cover the costs of the food you order. Additionally, we aim for our guests to feel a close connection with the locals. Other reviews from our previous clients may provide further clarification.
I want to emphasize that when traveling with locals, the priority should be a willingness to learn from them.
Once again, you requested a full refund, and we have already processed it, even we covering all costs related to operating the tour, including guide fees, tuk-tuk fees, fruits, drinking water, and food.
Thanks, and best wishes for your future tours.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Silk Island with our interesting and well spoken guide and careful tuk tuk driver. Our visit to the small family run silk ‘farm’ and weavers was low key and educational and there was no pressure to buy if you didn’t want to. But the examples of lovely scarves and table runners was impossible to resist. We also were impressed by the family run soya bean curd business.
We enjoyed our journey around the islands and on the ferries and had a wonderful dinner on a floating restaurant - again, very low key but perfect for the peace and quiet and quality of food.
Highly recommend this tour to see another side of Cambodian life that tourists rarely experience - so near to the big city but feels so far away.

Tida was such an enthsiastic and knowledgeable ambassador for her country. She is passionate about local food and local enterprise. The tuk tuk was clean and well maintained.

Throng is a wonderful guide! Great experience exploring the island with a authentic (and delicious) Khmer dinner.
Tour included a visit to silk farm, bean curd producer, buddhist temple and passing through farms of the island.
Tour could be condensed since we didn’t stop at any of the farms just passed through.
Overall, great experience and would recommend.

My parents and I really enjoyed the trip to silk island, away from the hustles and bustles of Phonm pehn. Our tour guide Mr Pi, was awesome! He was very helpful, caring, knowledgeable and speaks good english. We thank him for showing us his island with so much dedication. It was amazing to discover the life of people there through Pi. We enjoyed the fruit plantation, the pagoda temple, the traditional silk weaving and soybean factory visit! We also had a great relaxing traditional dinner by the river.
Akun!

Short relaxing trip just out of the city that makes you feel a million miles away. Really enjoyed the chilled atmosphere. Lunch was simple and peaceful on a floating restaurant on the Mekong. Food followed by a lie in a hammock. How surreal!

Thanks Paul for choosing us and give us a great review where it would much benefit for us to get more experience, and knowledge that contribute to improve our service quality from day to day as much as for our guides to improve the English speaking with learning a new things daily.
We do hope to see you again for another tour and all the best wishes,
Thong Chea

The tour and our tour guide Thom (sorry if we got the spelling wrong!) were excellent; We got to see more of the real Cambodia outside the city with our guide explaining the history and background to key elements of rural life.
It was really interesting and informative.
