A delightful (and very packed) 3 days

Sorrel_B, Jan 2026
My friend and I had a great trip with our guides and driver. We enjoyed each of our guides (we had one in Delhi, Agra, between Agra and Jaipur, and in Jaipur - so 4 guides total). Our driver Sanjiv provided great continuity between the different places and guides and was kind, funny and so gracious in answering all of our questions and providing advice to us (such as make sure we're bargaining with the vendors!) Our trip started and ended at the Delhi airport. We were picked up from the airport, greeting with a necklace made of marigolds. We were shown around Delhi, with highlights being the Delhi spice market and eating lunch at a local shop right off the market. We then drove to Agra where we were able to see the back of the Taj Mahal with the river in the foreground that evening. We stayed at a nice hotel, with a great dinner and breakfast buffet. That morning we got up early to take a tour of the Taj (to actually go inside and see the details). It was quite socked in with fog that morning (our trip was in winter, which apparently is a season where morning fog is quite common around the Taj), so we were quite grateful to have seen it the evening before. We had some options (which demonstrations/stores to shop in and a couple of monument options). Our driver offered to take us back to Taj later that morning to try to actually see it from the more common view points, but the day we went was a free day at the monument, so it would be even more crowded than usual, so we opted not to to avoid risking missing other elements in other cities. We then drove to Jaipur with a stop at a palace/fort on the way. (we had the choice to see this fort or one in Agra, and we opted for this one, as it is more open to the public than the one in Agra). We stayed that night in Jaipur at a lovely hotel. It was within the old city and we could see some of the Amer fort and the wall of the old city from our hotel room. The next day we got up and met our guide and saw much of Jaipur. Our guide was great at showing us the details, giving us options (such as how to enter the Amer fort, by elephant, walking or car) and giving time for photos at different places (as well as pointing out great photo opportunities). We actually fell in love with Jaipur and would likely focus on Jaipur and the Rajasthan if we did another trip to India. We then drove back to Delhi. Our driver wasn't able to take us all the way to the airport (he had a fuel vehicle and there was a notice given by the city that afternoon that only electric vehicles were allowing within the city limits due to pollution levels). But the tour company arranged a taxi for us (and paid for us) and got us safely to our airport terminal, and our driver made sure we were in good hands with the taxi driver. Again, our driver was wonderful. He made us feel so comfortable (cracking jokes and chatting with us in English). With the guides coming and going, it was great to have someone with us for the whole trip. Shout out to Sanjiv! Advice to future travelers: This is a very packed three days and we were not able to do everything that was listed on the literary per the Viator list. Think of it more as options of things that you can do. Discuss with your guide if there is something you really want to do (for example, the Spice Market wasn't what our guide had planned for us in Delhi, but when we expressed interest in it, we discussed which we'd rather do (Spice Market or Red Fort) and we opted for Spice Market. Due to the traffic in Delhi that day, the opt for the Spice Market made us arrive in Agra later, so we missed seeing baby Taj that night (again, given the choice, we opted for seeing the actual Taj Mahal from across the river, as we're glad we did). Main point, three days across 3 cities that are hours apart is a very go-go-go itinerary. Consider the items listed in the itinerary as a list of options, and work with your guide on making sure you're doing the items most important to you. We were not standing around at any point on the trip, it's a very packed 3 days. Be sure to bring some cash for entry into the different monuments. Some take card, but most take cash, so make sure you have cash on hand for entry fees, tips and toilets. Also, make sure you are bargaining with everyone when you are shopping. We observed a haggle go from "full price" to 30% of the original offer (and they weren't even done yet). Even if there are price tags, it's negotiable. And keep negotiating until you have paid, I had a "fee" added at one shop that wasn't truly a fee, it was part of the haggle. As someone who comes from a very "the price is what it is" culture, this took some getting use to. You are playing a game, so keep playing your role until the game is done (you've paid and have the item in hand). This is a great trip, I would recommend (and if I were to do it again, I'd request Sanjiv as my driver).

3-Day India's Golden Triangle tour with Pushkar Camel Fair

Mike_S, Nov 2025
The tour operator (Diwan Holidays) was extremely responsive after booking the initial tour through Viator. In addition to providing the base tour, they were very helpful in adding additional days to accommodate our schedule. The originally booked 3-day tour included New and Old Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. It was a bit of a whirlwind to cover the 3 cities in 3 days. Even though the tour guides never rushed in each city, it seemed that we visited so many places that we are forgetful of what places were where. You almost need a video/audio record of the entire experience. The history and religion lessons in each location were very enlightening. Also interesting were the visits to artisans still using old/ancient techniques in jewelry, marble and rug work. Coincidentally, our plans slightly overlapped the annual Pushkar Camel Fair which was a fun day to add to our agenda. The only downside of the tour was the mistaken description of what was included in the tour package. Specifically, the description given by Viator (not the tour operator) said it included all fees for entries to the monuments in one part, while a few lines later, the description said monument entry fees were excluded. Viator support was also confused, but when further pressed said the fees were not included and were unwilling to reimburse the fees. If I were to use Viator again, I would contact the tour operator directly to get clear descriptions of what is included/excluded. e.g. Do not trust Viator to have accurate descriptions.
