Great Castle to visit in Montreux

This is a great seaside castle to explore. It doesn't look like it would be that big from the outside, but it has a lot to explore. I couldn't imagine running though the halls to defend the keep from intruders wearing a full chain mail and suit of armor. It was a cool experience, and it has been very well maintained.

I purchased tickets to visit Chillon Castle through Viator. With the tickets in hand, we avoided the ticket window and went straight in. We used the printed guide provided by the castle staff to follow the recommended route and found it thorough and very interesting. We very much enjoyed the experience. As an aside, it was very hot and sunny the day we visited and walking from downtown Montreux did not seem reasonable. Instead, we took a train from downtown to the Veytaux-Chillon stop (about two minutes ride). I also heard the staff at the castle recommend a local bus route that stops next to the castle entrance.

We tried and tried to reschedule the moment we knew our train would not bring us on time, but it was difficult to reach Viator while overseas (we are from Canada). I tried calling, I tried emailing but the message never got through. Luckily, when we got to the castle, I explained the situation and showed them our proof of payment and they let us in. We did not get the guided tour however. The castle is beautiful, my husband absolutely loved it!
