Jenny was excellent very accommodating. My bag had not arrived and I was stressed all day. In the evening she dropped me at Aix to give me a head start getting my bag which I now have.
It was a. Dry informative tour I saw places I would not be able to go on public transport. It’s a very worthwhile experience full of history and culture. I was spoilt as tour had only two other women this is a great introduction to Provence 10/10 😊

Nicolas was an excellent guide! He was knowledgeable about the areas we visited and kept the conversation enjoyable for all.

Overall, I would rate this tour as a disappointing. It was advertised as a small group tour of 8 (of which our group was four) with no hotel pickup. Six of us met at the meeting point, boarded the bus and then drove an hour and twenty minutes to Aix to pickup the other two customers at a hotel and were left in a hot van while the guide sought them out. This did not add 1:20 to our tour but effectively subtracted it from our last stop Avignon.
The guide was nice enough, but either walked faster than half the group could keep up during the partially guided part of the tour, or dumped us off on our own with some recommendations. This was particularly true of the hour we spent La Beaux where we were expected to have lunch--which took 45 minutes of the hour. Some recommendations of where to grab a sandwich or take away food would have been nice. La Beaux is picturesque but a hike, and no place to tour and have lunch in one hour. Bad plan.
Traffic was awful and the heat unbearable, which I realize is not the guide's or Viator's fault, but the forced march was unnecessary for the older members of the tour, and traffic at that hour of the day I suspect is not unusual. I consider this an ill advised schedule. I have a problem with six of the eight members of the tour making our own way to the meeting point and then sacrificing part of our tour time driving to pick up two additional tour members in another town and looking tor find them and taking them home again.
It just seems they should have made their way to the meeting point or been a part of another tour.
I don't believe this tour is accurately defined.

We had an wonderfull day with an excellent guide-driver, Paul, who gave us a lot of interesting information and answered to all our questions.

We had a very small group, just my partner and another tourist to the area, which made it nice and personal. We only spoke English while the other tourist only spoke French, so our guide (Nicolas I think, should have written this review sooner) had his work cut out for him giving all the information twice, in both languages. The drive out from Marseille to Arles took a while, but Nicolas told us so much about the history of the area and the roads gave us a good view of the surroundings so it wasn't a problem. In Arles the Van Gogh Foundation was displaying Starry Night Over The Rhone so Nicolas modified the route to spend a bit longer here so we could have longer going round the gallery. We spent more time in Arles looking around the town, with a bit of free time to explore at our own pace. Next we were off to Les Baux. Here we had 2 hours to explore the area ourselves. Definitely better coming here on a tour, as you can't park near the top so Nicolas had to drop us off and repark ages away then pick us up later. We had a good time looking round the town, very scenic and lots of restaurants, shops and a local art display going on. Next we went to St. Paul de Mausole. Again we had about an hour to explore the area at our own pace. Finally we went to Avignon. Again we were able to explore at our own pace for 2 hours, but we were so worn down from the heat and walking we ended up just getting some drinks in the shade rather than going to the Palais des Papes. If you're a bit hardier than us you'd definitely have had the time. Finally we returned to Marseille - it was another long drive, but Nicolas still had plenty to tell us about to keep us entertained. Traffic coming in wasn't great but that's big cities for you. We didn't have anything booked in after so it wasn't a problem for us - maybe bear that in mind if you have a restaurant reservation, give yourself the extra time. This was a fantastic tour of a few highlights of Provence, I'd recommend to anyone able to handle the walking and heat (if you go in summer).

Very nice tour. Very nice guide Nicolas.
We would like to have more time in each stop to see mire things

We were with another couple on the tour where great people and enhanced the tour a lot. The tour was pretty comprehensive and covered a lot of territory in one day which is what we were looking for (we had limited time) and there were some great spots (esp St Remy and Les Baux) that I would t have known about. Our guide was a good guy with whole we had rapport. Personally I would like more emphasis on Roman ruins and history and less Van Gogh but the woman with us was more into Van Gogh so that’s really a subjective thing. My husband is over ruins so he was happy enough with Van Gogh.

Great tour of the Provence region. Recommended for Van Gogh and history buffs. Knowledgable tour guide.
Andi_A, Jun 2024
I think having our guide being an arts-based person helped as I enjoyed learning more about Van Gogh.
It was great that we were able to fit 4 places in one trip but we didn't have enough time to see Les Baux and have lunch properly. Usually tours will allow 1 hour and 30 min to 2 hours. Same with Avignon...would have liked more time.
EMILY_G, Jun 2024
Logistically great to get to see the locations, albeit it briefly. Not much information from the driver we had for the day, disappointing in that regard, nice fellow nonetheless. Les Baux was lovely but insufficient time there to explore.
Simon_B, May 2024
Nico the guide was excellent. He was extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of all the places we visited - this really made a difference. There is a lot to take in on this tour in just one day but it is certainly worth it, especially if you have limited time. Avignon was great and I would definitely like to go back. If you want a snap-shot of life in Provence this is it!

I had an excellent day on this tour. The tour guide O’Gene is just fantastic. She was punctual, professional, knowledgeable, warm and friendly person. Rarely I have seen people with so much passion and love for touring. It was worth the cost. I highly recommend the tour.

Nicely planned trip in Provance!
Great friendly driver!
Good van! Nice way to see some of the Provance and feel the atmosphere there.
Lisa_K, Sep 2023
Loved seeing the different towns! Especially Les Bayx. Wish we had a little more time there to explore
Kathryn_B, Jul 2023
Cities we visited were full of history and our guide was very knowledgeable if he didn’t t know something he got us the answer.
Alexander_M, Jun 2023
Wonderful excursion. Had a great time. All my time in Marseille and Provance was very good. Small group, knowledgeable guides. Thank you Viator you made everything easy.
Jody_S, May 2023
Great group and wonderful guide. Sites were amazing and so much history in the area to explore and take in.
Jenny_L, May 2023
We had a disappointing experience. The guide was nice, but we expected more than just a drop off at each location, self guided experience. Might be better if we do on our own.
Response from Host, May 2023
Dear Jenny, we are sorry this tour didn't match your expectations. In most of our tours we visit 3-4 very different places/cities on the same day, and usually every tour is a mix of spending some time together as a group and leaving free time in other places. Usually the free time is to adapt also to different interests, as this is a shared tour. And in some other places it is not easy to park for extended period of time. On your tour there was "manifestation" against the government in Arles, it might have ruined a bit the experience of visiting all together, as there was an unusual amount on people on the roads walking, shouting, singing etc. It was anyhow a French experience. We remain at your disposal if you think a more appropriate reply from our part is needed. Kind regards,

Marlon was an experienced guide. He was so engaging and it was like touring with a family member! He met our needs and went above expectations!
sandeep_s, Sep 2022
Our tour guide, Marlin, was excellent. He shared so much information with us and his knowledge of the history and culture was amazing. We were just two couples on this full day tour so it was very personalized. Definitely recommend the tour. We even got some time to shop! Thank you Marlin!
Joseph_W, Aug 2022
Info on Van Gogh and seeing the things he saw. Hotel Dieu and Sanitarium in St. Remy were great.
Could have used the tour guide at Avignon and Baum. Overall very nice.
SpeedFreex, Jun 2022
A travel through the History of Provence with the many stories and interesting parts of the cities that our great guide Paul with knowledge and patience taking care of our family all the time transfered to us.highly recommended tour as it gives you a total image of a big historical area/ region but only with Paul!
Sara_L, Jun 2022
The narration during the day both in the van and around each city/village. Avignon, Arles, St Remy and Les Baux each had their own charm, beauty, and history. Nicely paced trip for folks in their 60's and 70's.
Gavin_B, Apr 2022
Each of the 4 destinations were excellent, interesting. Guide was very good, kind. Length of the trip was ideal - 10 hours back to Marseille. It helps if you like Van Gogh and his paintings.
Rose_D, Oct 2024

Response from Host, Jul 2022
Cordialement, Silvio
