A fantastic and in depth walk that contextualised the historical significance of Liverpool's waterfront. We had a lot of fun and learnt a lot along the way!
Our guide, John, was brilliant, sharing deep knowledge and clear passion for the history of Liverpool. He generously and thoroughly answered every question, even when he could have simply said "we'll cover that at the next stop". I learned heaps about Livrpool and left inspired to learn more.
We thoroughly enjoyed this informative and VERY interesting guided walk through Liverpool's history from 1207! John was an excellent guide whose knowledge and passion for Liverpool shone through. Best 2 hours and £20 spent on trip so would highly recommend.
We so enjoyed this walking history tour of Liverpool. John was a very knowledgeable and engaging tour guide who told us so many interesting facts about the city. We all very much recommend this tour. It is a definite highlight of our stay.

Excellent walking tour with John! John was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of Liverpool, had a great sense of humour, and the pace of the tour was excellent.! Highly recommend!!
Expert information told with just the right amount of anecdotal color. Every time I developed a Question for John, he answered it before he finished his presentation. Highly recommended! And he only mentioned the Beatles once!

Tour was excellent! History of Liverpool (sans Beatles-yay) was thorough, fascinating and told with great passion and humor by guide John. There’s no question re: the city he can’t answer. I’d take any tour he leads.
John our guide was very knowledgeable I normally switch off but wow John made it very interesting gave us load of information about the history of Liverpool which without this tour we wouldn’t have known. It’s a must do whilst here and for £20 it’s a bargain.
Very interesting tour. We were educated on so many Liverpool historical firsts. We are Irish and there a huge connection between Liverpool and Ireland.

This is an incredible tour: the city’s past came alive in this tour. Our guide has a PhD in local history and knew how to best explain the prominence of Liverpool as a port city and its unique connections with the world. I cannot recommend highly enough: don’t miss it if you want to understand the city
Very informative tour. Not taxing at all. Mainly down by the waterfront talking about Liverpool's maritime history. Lots of interesting historical facts.
We learned so much about Liverpool’s history and its context relative to what was going on in the rest of the world. Our guide was a local history professor and was able to answer all our questions.
This was a great tour run by a local. John was a wealth of knowledge and local history. If you want any to learn anything about Liverpool and its place in history this is a must.
I’m not normally a history buff but I found this tour to be fascinating. John talked very fast but I could understand him easily and he was never boring so he held my full attention. That’s not always easy to do but he did! There’s quite a lot of history in this area. You will be outside the majority of the time so dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes.

I recently joined John’s walking tour in Liverpool and came away genuinely impressed.
This isn’t your typical surface-level city tour. John has a deep understanding of Liverpool’s ancient history, and he brings it to life in a way that’s both engaging and easy to follow. You get a real sense of how the city developed over time — from its early roots through to the character it has today — with plenty of detail that you simply wouldn’t pick up on your own.
The pacing was spot on, with time to take everything in without feeling rushed. John is clearly passionate about the subject and delivers the information in a relaxed, conversational style that keeps you interested throughout.
There are also some great insights into The Beatles, but these are woven naturally into the broader story of the city rather than dominating the tour, which I appreciated.
Overall, a really worthwhile experience. If you’re looking to understand Liverpool beyond the obvious landmarks, this tour is well worth your time.

fantastic way to learn the history of Liverpool and get a sense of where everything is...highly recommend this tour at the start of your stay in Liverpool...even before doing all the Beatles stuff
They cancelled 50 minutes before the walk because of the bad weather. It was barely raining and 30 mins later it stopped.
Have the feeling the guide wasn't feeling it. Such a shame as they were my last two hours in Liverpool and I planned things around it. Now waiting for the refund
