Avoid: tour guide abandoned struggling climber; local person and another tour company helped avert disaster.

When the group was ascending the steep and muddy climb to Waerebo, the young tour guide abandoned the group. My friend was left struggling at the back while he had already raced ahead to Waerebo. He arrived 80 minutes earlier than her. Meanwhile an older local man who was carrying toys for the village kids stopped to assist her. He carried her bag and helped her navigating the slimy climb. When he struggled to help her a nice tour guide from another company stepped in. They both asked what happened to her guide. And were disgusted to learn he abandoned her. I did the right thing and tipped them 500000 IDR each when I learned what happened. I gave an incident report to the company and asked them to reimburse tips for doing the job of their guide. They refused. They are not a pleasant company. This is not a hike. It’s an extremely dangerous climb without cell reception or radio. Would you want to travel in these conditions with a guide not trailing you?
