The guides and crew were friendly and accommodating. The trip to Saona Island was one of the highlights of our trip to the DR. There seemed to be less tourists on our Catamaran compared to others that we saw, which I consider a plus. I’d recommend tour to others.

It was described as a small group tour. We expected it to be between 10 and 15 people, it was 25. But it was a larger boat so it didn't seem crowded. It starts early and since we stayed at all inclusive place, we could not grab breakfast. They did provide a nice lunch later in the day. But the late morning snack was sliced bread with cheese slice or ham and cheese. Really expected better. We have been on other small group tours and they provide continental breakfast: muffins, croissants, fruits, etc. The crew was great. The bar was subpar. No mixers for the cocktails, basically coke or sprite.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed our crew and that, despite the number of guests on board, the spacious catamaran never felt crowded.
Regarding the group size, our tour is indeed a small-group experience, with a maximum of 28 guests aboard a 25-meter catamaran offering large indoor and outdoor areas. This is very different from many excursions in the area that often carry 70 to 100+ passengers on board.
We also intentionally organize early departures (your hotel pickup was at 7:10 a.m.) to avoid the crowds at the snorkeling sites and beaches. One of the highlights of our tour is that we have our own private beach area, away from the large excursion groups where several hundred visitors can share the same beach at the same time.
Concerning the food, we actually serve refreshments throughout the day: coffee, tea, juice and pastries at our office before departure, coffee and fresh bananas on board in the morning, sandwiches after snorkeling, chips on the beach, and a freshly prepared lunch served on board around 1:30 p.m.
As for the cocktails, we offer classic Caribbean drinks such as rum with cane sugar, fresh lime and Sprite, along with beer, wine and soft drinks. Unfortunately, as we operate on a boat, using electric blenders for frozen cocktails is not possible due to the onboard power limitations.
We truly appreciate your comments, as they help us continue improving our experience, and we hope you still leave the Dominican Republic with wonderful memories of Saona Island.

This catamaran trip was a highlight of our holiday, it was worth every penny. A small group of around 30 (adults and children) took to the sea on a relaxed journey to Saona that took around 90 minutes. It was peaceful and there was plenty of room to sit and enjoy the views. We spent around 2 hours on Saona Island which was breath taking. Upon our return to the boat, we had a delicious lunch followed by snorkelling in a natural pool where we saw lots of huge star fish and even a turtle! A wonderful experience, thank you!

I’m very torn leaving this review. The staff was wonderful.
Here’s the deal- if you’re in the Punta Cana which we were, it’s about an hour and a half car ride to the departure point. It’s then about an hour and a half catamaran ride. We had to skip the snorkeling since the water was a bit rough. The island and beach are beautiful, but the beach at our resort (Secrets Royal Beach) is just as beautiful. So it didn’t really seem like anything different.
The natural pool on the way back is just a shallower part of the ocean, we only saw 2 starfish.
Then the same commute back on the catamaran and taxi back.
So it was about 6 hours of “travel” for a couple hours on a beach.
The staff was really wonderful, very sweet and took great care of us. That’s the only reason I feel bad about only giving it 3 stars.

The beaches in the DR are absolutely beautiful! Turquoise water and powder white sand. The last stop to see the starfish makes the whole day worthwhile!

It was an amazing tour from start to finish. Service was offered fluently in English, French, Spanish. We had zero issues with any aspects of coordinating transportation to and from our hotel. It was all done for us. We just had to show up at our hotel gate. The boat was perfect. There were only 26 participants in the tour with ample room to spread out and make yourself comfortable. I struggle with neck and back issues, and had no difficulty tolerating the catamaran ride. There is a full washroom on board. The snacks and meal were fantastic. Unlimited rum and beer/ beverages all day. Saona island was stunning. We had a great massage on the beach. We only wish we would’ve had a little more cash on us so we could’ve indulged in a longer treatment. The price of the massage ranged from $50-$90 per person. Everything was well organized. We felt safe and well taken care of all day long. We made many new friends from all around the world. Thank you for a wonderful experience. We highly recommend this tour for anyone wanting to journey to Saona island.

Exceeded expectations. This business is exceptionally well run. The office staff was professional and incredibly easy to work with. They were also very helpful arranging a taxi at the end of the day for us back to the airport as we did this excursion on our last day. The boat is very well kept. When they say they limit the numbers on board, they mean it. It was a very small crowd and we saw so many boats going by was standing room only whereas we had all the room to lounge in the shaver sun we wanted. The food was excellent. The drinks were great. There was some music playing, but not too loud. If you are looking for more of a relaxed sailing experience and a beautiful day on the water without the crowds and loud music this is the trip for you.

We had a wonderful day on this catamaran trip. Couldn’t fault the experience - there was plenty of space for everyone on the boat. There was a constant flow of drinks and snacks, lunch was great. Staff and guide/hosts were very friendly and knowledgeable and generally made it a very easy, lovely day!
The one thing I’d warn people of is probably not to book if you’re not already staying in Bayahibe. We were staying in Bávaro and the transfer (we paid $70 round trip for a private transfer through the company, which we thought would be just for us but we actually picked up 2 other couples and it took over 2hrs!). So just be wary of this and if you’re happy to spend that time, go for it :)

I got picked up at my hotel. Then it was about 90 mins to get to the site. I checked in and th company gave me a bracelet. And off we were. Angel, Captain Andre’s and the staff were so professional and very friendly and it was an amazing time. It is small group in a big catamaran. The amazing thing was that we all had room to roam the boat. I and others noticed other boats and how packed. We had our own private beach time at Saona amd man I felt like I was in heaven. One thing I do want to emphasize is bring as much mosquito repellent as you can. They will get you. Overall the best experience in an excursion I’ve had while traveling. If I do come back I’m definitely booking them again. Everything was amazing and very thankful for the experience

We didn’t have very high expectations because of some previous trips we had with other companies, but this experience completely blew us away! It was so amazing that before we even left the boat on the first day, we booked another trip to Catalina.
Everything was absolutely excellent — from the itinerary to the incredible crew. The boat was spacious and not crowded, which made the whole trip feel personal and special. It truly felt like it was all about us: what we wanted to do, how we wanted to do it, and how much time we wanted to spend in each place we visited.
A huge thank you to Angel, who was just wonderful — beautiful inside and out — and made our trip unforgettable with her warmth and care. And Bernard, the captain, was an absolute star, ensuring everything ran perfectly and smoothly.

Myself and partner had the best day and experience. Picked up from our hotel by taxi and driven to the meeting point and was very efficient. Was a perfect smaller group for us which we wanted and arrived at Saona Island and left just as the crowds arrived. Tour guides were very informative, friendly and helpful. The lunch was really enjoyable and we enjoyed the second stop which we then snorkelled and saw many starfish and fish. Would definitely recommend.

We had the best trip to Saona Island - a big thanks to Charlotte and Enrique! We loved being able to sail and enjoy the catamaran on the way there and back. We had the opportunity to jump off the boat into crystal clear blue water, spend approx 1.5 hours on the island, and then snorkel to see starfish. Quetzal even arranged transportation for us from Cap Cana - a big plus!

I know not everyone can justify paying the increased price over the normal amount for a Saona trip as there are much cheaper ones, but I guarantee you that this was worth every penny. Charlotte and Enrique and the crew couldn't do enough for us. The group size ( about 20-25) was just about perfect. Plenty of room on the boat to stretch out and on the island itself.
When on the island we could see other groups that were way too large and I imagine they felt crowded at all times.
The time on the boat was relaxed without pumping music that other boats seem to think is a good idea....it isn't. You just skim over the Caribbean sea with a drink in hand and trying to spot the flying fish leaping out of the water around you.
This trip is an absolute must! You won't regret it, I promise.

What a great experience to start out with ***** a beautiful boat and very great professional crew a small group which was very nice having alot of room on the boat to move around as we wanted without it being crowded. Wonderful catamaran and crew. We had the best time visiting gorgeous Saona Island and Las Palmillas natural swimming pool with starfish!! The color of the water in these locations was pure heaven. Lunch was wonderful!! As noted in other reviews, this is the tour to book if you don't want to be on a boat with huge crowds and no room to move around. There was plenty of room for everyone (a nice bathroom too). Would definitely recommend!

A wonderful day aboard with quetzal tours, this catamaran trip was incredible and worth every penny. I attended with my mother and daughter, we spent the day sailing to Saona where our given area was private and we beat any other tour crowds. A beautiful 5 minute walk through the palm forest to the beach. We then had 2 hours at the beach and back we go, a wonderful lunch on board and then a stop for snorkelling.
Our host was fantastic and kept us well fed and watered. As well as friendly and helpful with local facts. A real family feel to this trip and so pleased we did not opt for anything less. Our group was small and we all had plenty of room to relax on the boat. The whole team on board were fantastic.
Tip: take your own snorkel goggles onto saona beach if swimming, lots of beautiful angel fish.

What an amazing experience. By far the best catamaran day I have ever had. The boat had plenty of space for dining and shade, and there were maybe 15 people max so lots of space. The staff were so attentive and friendly and catering to the guests all day. They were all bilingual and this was impressive. The lunch was delicious and cooked to perfection. Salad, fresh fruit, pasta salad, chicken and beef. Dessert. The snorkelling was very cool, we saw puffer fish and lion fish among many others, Saona island was stunning, and the natural pool was full of starfish and a few sting rays. I can’t say enough good things about the staff. This was a nice change for being a more relaxing catamaran experience rather than a party cruise which is more common. It was quiet and lovely.

Charlotte and the crew of the Quetzal were great and made the trip to Saona Island more than enjoyable! The boat was clean, well kept and the food served for snacks and lunch was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect for our family. While other catamaran’s we saw were overflowing with passengers, the Quetzal had a perfect amount and it was fun but not a “party boat”. Charlotte kept us very informed with clear instructions and tips. We were very impressed with her ability to speak three languages. While on Saona Island, the crew made a point to look after us so we could focus on taking in the sights and sounds. Thanks again for our memorable family excursion while in the Dominican Republic!

I cannot recommend this incredible adventure enough—it was an absolute highlight of our trip! Bernard (El Capitán), Charlotte, Enrique, and the entire crew were exceptional—fun, friendly, and incredibly gracious hosts. Charlotte stood out as an outstanding leader. She was not only informative and well-spoken but also effortlessly connected with everyone in our multi-lingual group, making us all feel welcome and included.
The catamaran, Quetzal, herself was a dream to sail on—spacious, well-maintained, and beautifully designed. There was plenty of room for our group to relax, move around, and store our belongings comfortably. She truly added to the luxury of the experience.
The lunch served on board was a culinary delight—some of the most delicious food we had during our entire trip. And let’s not forget Charlotte’s bartending skills! She whipped up fantastic drinks that complemented the tropical vibe of the day.
While high winds prevented us from visiting the reefs, the crew turned what could have been a disappointment into an unforgettable experience. We spent extra time at the breathtaking Saona Island and the nearby natural pools, where we marveled at the starfish and soaked in the serene beauty of the surroundings. You should definitely take this tour. The service is incredible, they make you feel like you are on a luxury and exclusive tour from start to finish. The catamaran is equipped with bathrooms, they give you fruits and drinks throughout the tour. The buffet style lunch on the boat was on another level, really delicious. Also, when you get to Saona they take you to an area of the beach that is only for catamaran users with chairs and shade. What we liked the most was that it is not the typical tour with those catamarans full of people, here we are only 30 and you are super comfortable all the time. And as a good Latin family we love that they have coffee available all day. If we return to the DR we would definitely take this tour again.

Saona Island was beautiful. I really enjoyed the snorkelling & the place with the Starfish was great. The crew were also fabulous; one of our group had mobility issues & they went above & beyond to help him! Not too many on the boat either! I fully recommend this trip!
