Exceptional experience along the Mekong River

ElishaT_F, Jan 2026
Can’t say enough good things about this experience! We’re not “tour people” and so we were surprised to find how much we enjoyed our 3-day adventure along the Mekong River. Each day was jam packed with a well planned and carefully orchestrated itinerary that included a good mix of hands-on activities (including a cooking demonstration), visits to cultural sites (pagodas, a music show, and a traditional house from the 1800’s), up-close encounters with life along the Mekong (the floating market, a rice noodle shop, and a bike ride through a residential neighborhood), and plenty of time to take in nature (including a memorable sampan ride through a bird sanctuary at dusk). Our guide, Tuyen, was exceptional and all the logistics unfolded smoothly. We are vegetarians and the tour easily accommodated our needs - and the food was incredible! Only drawback was the hotel the second night, which was very bare bones, and directly across the street from a loud karaoke bar. Wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend this experience!

Best way to experience Mekong culture

Darcy_W, Aug 2025
One of our best experiences in Vietnam. Our tour guide, Sunny, was an absolute gem. It was a real pleasure getting to spend two full days with her. She was so knowledgeable and fun to be around. We got to experience a ton of Mekong culture and history. We got to ride local boats, eat at a villagers house, make all kinds of Vietnamese specialties, ride bikes around a island village, visit a fruit orchard and bird sanctuary and so much more. They really packed in the activities but it never felt rushed. There is no way we could have done this without this wonderful tour. The hotels were nice the food delicious. On the third day, they arranged for a speed boat to take us to Cambodia first thing in the morning. Five stars all the way!!

Great way to explore the Mekong Delta

Danique_v, Nov 2024
First of all we would like to thank Sunny. Without her endless amount of enthousiasm and energy the tour would not have been the same. We picked the tour because it was a nice way to combine a trip to the Mekong Delta and to travel to Cambodia Phnom Penh. During the 3 day tour we did serval activities and have been to numerous places, we would not have picked ourselves. From making popped rice to listening to folklore. The highlight of the tour, to our opinion, was the boat ride through the Mangrove. If you travel to Cambodia via boat, you will be dropped at the harbor early in the morning on the third day. Everything is arranged perfectly, we were well taken care off. Thank you!

Great value for the money you pay

Cvetozar_N, Feb 2020
The trip was super nice. Our Git Suong did everything possible to make us feel comfortable looking after us through the whole trip. I wish we had more time to spend on each location. It felt like we spent a lot of time Traveling and less time enjoying the locations.

Great cultural experience

Natasha_M, Feb 2020
Absolutely loved this tour. Such a great experience at a very reasonable price. The tour was mostly by bus with day trips by boat on the Mekong Delta. It was an excellent and budget friendly way to see the cultural side of Vietnam with traditional food and entertainment. Accommodation was basic but nice. Would absolutely recommend.

Fab tour of the Mekong

Rachael_H, Feb 2020
Tom Cruz our guide was excellent. He was very informative and made sure everyone enjoyed themselves. We felt he was looking after us all the way. A great tour of the Mekong river and we explored lots of things.

Awesome value - one of the best organized tours I have ever taken.

One of THE BEST organized tours I have ever taken. Great value for the money. Very interesting places chosen to visit. Only minus is that the busses could have charging ports, but I certainly can live with that.

An Excellent experience

Brenda_T, Dec 2019
Fantastic value for the money. Interesting visits, good local food, adequate 2 star hotels, enthusiastic, cheerful and informative Gordon as guide. Do it but be prepared fo very full days and early starts.

Value for money for an outstanding Mekong Delta tour

JazmineL_P, Nov 2019
Our 3D 2N tour with Viator & TNK Travel was an absolute fun and extra ordinary experience. A total value for money and for this we absolutely and highly recommend this tour to everyone who wishes to visit HCMC across Mekong Delta to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Our tour guide Vank has an exceptional knowledge of Vietnam & Mekong Delta. He is professionally trained and was very helpful the whole time we were with him. Husband & I had a great time and so many precious & happy memories were made with our group which no more than 30 people from all parts of the globe. We made friends with them, laughed with them, ate with them and made loads of fun with them. There were also so many additional activities on this tour that was not mentioned initially on the description of this tour, we were so amazed with the amount of activities we have done and for that we are eternally grateful. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this tour to all first timers in Vietnam & even those ones who've been but wish to do the Mekong tour again. Thumbs up to all the crew, staff & organisers of Viator & TNK Travel :) Till we meet again :)

Good value

Katherine_R, Nov 2019
Excellent guide, Tom Cruise/chicken man, knowledgeable, informative, helpful and cared about his group. Loved the bird sanctuary, peaceful and beautiful. Well organised, and great way to arrive in Phnom Penh. Negatives, captive selling at local businesses (bees, noodles), also too long at one boat on floating market resulting in rushed lunch - although both lunches were delicious.

Had Fun

My mate and I had a great trip. Guide was great and helpful, meals were value for money and there was no hard sell at all the places we stayed for trinkets etc

3-Day Mekong River Tour

Brandie_C, Apr 2019
Overall this tour was wonderful. The tour guide did a nice job explaining the daily itinerary and ensuring everyone was happy. The floating market was one of my favorite parts of this tour. The only negative experience was at the first hotel. The woman at the desk did not speak any English in the morning and she had no idea that the hotel was expected to arrange transportation for me. The tour guide did explain it to the woman when I checked in, but the message was never relayed.

Best way to go from Saigon to Phnom Penh

So much, so diversile and so well working. It is basically everything you can wish! Best value for your money. Just keep your mind in adventurous mode and let the trip to blow your mind.

Long days filled with tourist traps

Ryan_A, Dec 2018
As someone who enjoying being active, avoiding money traps, and finding a good balance between city exploring and rest, this adventure was not for me.Our days would begin (post-breakfast) around 6:30-7am. This would be after arriving at our final destinations after sunset, when we'd still have to eat dinner and some of us (at least the group I was with) would want to go out with our new friends.During the long days, I don't think we did anything spectacular. Most of our time was spent on busses and boats (so many boats), and we'd get out at several stops for only 20-60 minutes - just enough time to break out of our post-nap hazes before being shuffled back onto the bus.As well, as the days went on, our guide grew from friendly to irritated and detached. Many of the stops felt like money traps: tipping our boat drivers or rowers, being pressure to buy candy, and quickly going through your typical artisan markets. The greatest highlight for me was meeting my fellow travelers. I imagine that after 3 days with the same people, bonds are inevitable. I so enjoyed eating and laughing with wonderful people from all over the world. If I were to do journey again, I would skip this tour and bus directly to the speed boat launch point just before the Cambodian border.

3 Day Mekong Tour

Melissa M, Oct 2018
Awesome tour and really cool with the homestay. No AC, but lovely group and great to help make dinner. A little too much bus time in my opinion, I would have preferred to be on a boat over bus.

Highly recommend! We had the most...

Highly recommend! We had the most incredible 3 days! John, our guide, was so informative, very relatable and so funny which just made the whole experience. The homestay is a really cool experience, if you get the chance, do it! The bird sanctuary is unforgettable! Well organised, awesome experience!

Lots of pluses and minuses here...

Jacqueline B, Aug 2017
Lots of pluses and minuses here. Start with the pluses, the accommodation was basic but ok and there was a couple of good mini trips here. The boat ride to Phnom Penh was OK as well. The negatives were our tour guide was awful, so rude to anyone that wasn't Vietnamese which was unusual as everyone else we met was lovely. He wouldn't tell us times and was dismissive when asked. We booked a home stay and we were the only ones doing this. The bus arrived at the hotel and we were told to get on the back of 2 motorbikes with 65 litre rucksacks. When I tried to ask about this he walked off. We are 2 girls and the motorbike riders didn't wait for each other. After a 20 minute ride in the dark with my rider not speaking English I was finally reunited with my travelling companion but it is safe to say we were both quite scared at first. The home stay was lovely and the owners really friendly. The next morning we were reunited with our group but this was done by us swapping boats in the middle of a big river with our guide shouting hurry hurry which again was a negative experience. This tour crams in a lot some good, some bad. I would have rated it higher if the guide had been helpful and friendly.

The tour was very well organized and offers good opportunities to learn more about how the people live. We enjoyed it very much. Many thanks to our tourguide John!

Overall it was a great experience...

Federico_G, Oct 2016
Overall it was a great experience. Very nice and planned tour, Alex the guide make the whole experiences very funny and easy going. Buses were almost new, clean and with good wifi. The driver on the second day was driving a bit crazy at the end, but we arrived safe. Hotels were Ok, however it could be a good option if you could have the option of choosing better hotels and pay the differences. I did the home-stay the first day, funny experience but a bit basic. Bungalows were clean and basic equipped. Didn't have much interaction with the hosts but did have a great time with other guests. Second night the hotel was Ok. In general the only thing that was a bit disappointing was meals. Looks like every place made an effort to make things fancy with a lot of food but with a poor result and quality. Both lunches were served cold and breakfast were just coffee and bread. Highlights: boat in coconut kingdom and boat at Tra Su. Jorge / Federico
