Excellent harbor cruise. We speak English, so you get a free app to download to hear the comments with photos and names of places you see. There is a little map, it shows you in real time where you are. Nice helpful crew.

Good spirits and great to see the Hamburt harbour. Really the heart of all that Hamburg is about. I’d recommend this one. Magnificent ships to see

Very informative tour with great views of the entire Harbour. The tour guide only spoke in German and was quite humorous. You can download their app and select your language preference but you must have ear buds or headphones so you can hear the tour in your language.

Harbor tour translations

Rebecca_f, Jul 2026
The available information in English is not a translation of the actual presentation. It only provides basic details about the sites you will see during the tour. I found the website difficult to navigate. Please note that you need Wi-Fi and must bring your own headphones. While the German speakers in our group found the tour entertaining, the rest of us did not share the same experience.

Boat Tour

The tour was very good except that wish there were more information about the need to bring earphones.

See the sights from river and canals. Very good, interesting, comfortable.

Mark_M, Jun 2026
I recommend this cruise. A one hour cruise is not adequate. Try 2 hour. Refresments and wait staff aboard. I used their phone app for English tour. It is triggered by gps location from your phone. But there is a 250MB download of the tour data! Not good for international phone data plan for tourists. They don't mention that in the brochure!! I ended up trying Google "live translate", and it did a good job of translating the live German commentary. There was on big logistical problem. The email and ticket just gives you a general address ... a dockside ticket office. They had to tell me to walk to dock 7, about a quarter of a mile away. Get there early so you are not rushing to get to an unexpected location. It was good to see various segments of the town from the river and canals.. very memorable encounters with massive, docked container ships.

Great way to spend an afternoon.

We had a great cruise and saw amazing architecture and heard some interesting history and facts. Our guide spoke in German and we are American so we missed the jokes and personal touches. We had not brought our earbuds to listen to the translation so one person listened and passed on pertinent information. We should have thought to bring sunscreen as well. We made it work.

Not in English

Jodie_C, Jun 2026
You need to download the app to hear it in another language before it starts As even though I booked English, there was not any. So I have no idea .

For German speakers only

Yvette_W, May 2026
If you do not speak German, this tour is not for you. The entire tour is in German. We downloaded the app only because we read about it on Viator, but it was horrible. No one on the boat suggested getting the app either. Two hours is WAY too long.

English vs. German

Marilyn_D, May 2026
The app somewhat helpful for English narration, but speaker on board very loud. We had difficulty aligning the sites, narration, and competing languages. Environment on-board was pleasant and well-covered (out of the rain).

Wonderful views of Hamburg and the harbor

rllallen, May 2026
I didn’t realize I would need to download commentary and use headphones ahead of time to get the English translation.

No English

Keith_L, May 2026
The tour claims to be English speaking however it was in German. There was an app which no one explained until we were on the boat. If you didn’t have internet you could not download the audio app. If this had been disclosed we would not have chosen this tour. Don’t waste your time!!!!

Only if your German is strong

Chavone_J, Apr 2026
while we signed up for English audio, there was not mention except super small print, that we would need to bring a phone to download an app and ear pieces. And that would only have been canned info on a few places we passed. Every other tour (20+) i've been on, the guide repeated most of everything in English. this guide did NO English and didn't seem to know that 5 of us had booked English.

No English tour guide - very disappointing!

Lucas_R, Apr 2026
buying the tickets it was requested the language for the tour however, the only language spoken during the whole tour was in German. I guess only german speaking people visit Hamburg...

A good attraction to do when in Hamburg

Laura_B, Apr 2026
Really good river boat cruise but commentary was in German. You could download an app to hear about points of interest in your language but this was a bit long winded. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Not for English speakers

Charles_C, Mar 2026
Supposed to be in English but was it was ALL in German. Told to download an app but it wasn’t very good.

Boring tour

suzannah_k, Feb 2026
It’s basically a tour of the port and container ships not what I thought it was. The guide only spoke in German so didn’t understand any of it

Very nice way to spend two hours in Hamburg!

Rudy_S, Nov 2025
The guide spoke in German but we were well aware of that before boarding. The main spots to see were listed on the itinerary anyway, so it was not hard to find out about them on our own. The positive energy of the crew and the passengers was a high-point, even if we didn't understand the language. The cruise itself was tremendous - especially the visit to the port with its massive container ships. Really gave an interesting perspective on the city. And drinks, snacks & well-maintained restrooms on board made the trip quite comfortable.

Ok in English. Very good in German

john_c, Oct 2025
Very good visual tour of the harbor however it was not in English. There was an online app which provided some narration, but was very poor and quality. I would declare that the advertisement was misleading.

The first 90 minutes was spend looking at cargo ships and cranes. The last 15 minutes in Hafencity was very nice. The narration was only in german. Needed to download a large app to listen to other lang

Good if only you speak German language

Jacob_Z, Sep 2025
unfortunately there is no English tour guide, but otherwise it is good to go around the harbor. Also good when warm.

Excellent Tour - Alternate Language App Could Be Improved

EdSackley, Sep 2025
Excellent vessel and crew. Narration is understandably in German, it a nice app is available to provide narration in other languages. It would be nice if narration at each point of interest was triggered by GPS coordinate proximity. As it is now configured, you must watch the “blue dot” and select what you believe to be the next point. It’s not always obvious which one that is.

The app isn't great

Linda_T, Aug 2025
For non-German speakers: if you can't get the tour in English, skip it. The app is glitchy and it's hard to hear over the live tour guide.

Overall, it was a great experience and an awesome way to see the sights of Hamburg from a different perspective.

Don’t !

rosekohl77, Aug 2025
Boring, not in English , nothing to see here. A big container ship was the highlight!! Save your money

Confusing boarding bridge

Yvette_Z, Aug 2025
We started to head to bridge on ticket half hour before departure time. But boarding bridge on the ticket was incorrect. We were directed to another bridge and the ship left way before departure time so we missed that. Then we had to take next one which was half hour later. The claimed audio guidance in English was by an app and not very helpful. Scenery was good so I still recommend it. Just be there early enough.

Good trip but not in English as stated

Matthew_D, Jul 2025
The boat itself was large and spacious, the trip covered everything from the docks to the waterways around Hamburg cover the sights , there’s a paid bar / nibbles area and lasted 2 hrs in total Now for the reason I gave it a 3/5 the whole tour was conducted by a girl speaking on a microphone but all in German not English as stated when booking , we learnt nothing about the sights of Hamburg and its lovely waterways and dock , it’s a real shame as it totally let the trip down and I’m sure some of the other tours on the harbour front did English speaking tours , my 15 year old didn’t have a clue what anything thing was so came away feeling let down and as though we had missed out , this trip should not be sold as English speaking as it’s not

Container ship tour

Catherine_D, Jul 2025
GERMAN COMMENTARY ONLY UNLESS YOU DOWNLOAD AN APP SCAN A CODE WITH YOUR SMARTPHONE AND HAVE YOUR OWN HEADPHONES!! This was NOT communicated properly. This tour also spends approximately 70 minutes looking at container ships and a cruise ship in port. WAY TO MUCH TIME SPENT ON THIS. After the 70 minutes we had a beautiful tour through different areas via numerous bridges. Not sure where or what we saw because we don’t speak German, but it was lovely.

Very disappointed.

Jason_L, Jul 2025
Great if you like container ships and commercial ports but not if your want to learn about the city or history of Hamburg. The English audio companion was pretty poor as well and not very informative.

Bad advertising by viator

Paul_B, Jun 2025
Advertised by visitor as six languages with an audio guide. Nope….only in German. No other languages or audio guide. Very poor route- 1-3/4 hours through container ships and 15 minutes in the old warehouse district. Submitting for a full refund.
