If you want to truly understand the soul of Hakodate beyond just the night view, this walking tour is an absolute must. Walking through the sloping streets of Motomachi feels like stepping into a living history book. Our guide brought the town's fascinating Meiji-era history to life with brilliant storytelling, detailing how Hakodate transformed from a quiet port into Japan’s first gateway to the international world. Seeing the unique blend of Western and Japanese styles side-by-side—from the striking, bright-yellow Old Public Hall of Hakodate to the majestic Russian Orthodox Church. The pace was relaxed, allowing plenty of time for photos, questions, and taking in the coastal atmosphere. It entirely changed how we viewed the city. Do not miss this if you are visiting Hakodate!
