Review: Pacaya Volcano Vistas + Pizza Experience

Pacaya Volcano was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. Hiking an active volcano and eating pizza cooked on volcanic heat is something you just don’t get to say every day. That said, the experience would have been much better if it hadn’t been so dangerously windy. The wind made the hike more intense than expected and honestly took away from the enjoyment a bit. For $330, I truly believe the horse should be included in the price. It felt like an additional expense that should have already been covered at that rate. I personally don’t feel the overall experience matched the cost. The pizza was decent, but no drink was included, which was a little surprising for that price point. Now let me say this clearly: my guide was the best part of the entire experience. He helped me up and down the mountain, constantly checked to make sure I was okay, and took as many photos as I wanted without hesitation. His professionalism and support made a huge difference. Would I do it again? Probably not for that price. But am I glad I did it? Yes. You only live once.

Walter was our guide and he was super knowledgeable and friendly! Made great conversation and honestly made the whole experience awesome! I also got to ride a horse half way up to the volcano, definitely made the experience worth it! 😊

Amazing experience. The initial accent is difficult but they have horses available which made it much easier! The tour guide himself Walter was such an Amazon person full of knowledge and really connected with us. the pizza is small even for two people. Suggest you talk with the organizers before hand for a larger one

This was a great tour! Cesar was awesome - great English & a really fun tour guide! We climbed the volcano with horses, ate pizza on the volcano from the “Pizza Man”, & then drank some fresh brewed coffee from the “Coffee Queen” when we got back down! Great tour! Thanks Cesar!

David was an awesome host and guide. The hike was very doable and the pizza lunch at the top was terrific. David made sure we paused at key stops along the way for the perfect photos. The local company reached out the night before to adjust our start time earlier based on weather and expected views—and they were dead on. We had incredible views of other volcanoes on the way up that were clouded out by the time we headed down. I would do this excursion again the next time I’m in Guatemala.

This was the most amazing thing ever. The hike was a little tough, but it was so worth it. The pizza at the top of the mountain, CHEFS KISS* We had Jovanny as a tour guide (not sure if his name is spelled that way), regardless, he was very informative, helpful and amazing. Unser Führer war wirklich nett und bemüht, man hatte aber den Eindruck er möchte es schnell hinter sich bringen. Englisch Kenntnisse waren ok. Was uns wirklich gestört hat, war dass er entweder nicht wusste dass hier in dieser Tour eine Pizza inkludiert ist (ich hatte dies auch schriftlich auf meinem Ticket) oder ob er versucht hat sich diese zu sparen ... Nach einer kurzen Diskussion bekamen wir jedenfalls die inkludierte Pizza! Schade denn das hat die Stimmung getrübt, aber bei dem sehr stolzen Preis der Tour haben wir definitiv darauf bestanden!
