I highly recommend "Hiking with Antonio" as a way to see some of the countryside outside of Guanajuato City. Antonia is fluent in Spanish and English. His career was spent in the local silver mining business. He's an excellent driver on the curvy roads :-) And, he's a superb guide on the hiking trails. He both offered information, and was glad to answer any questions, I posed about the area's history, culture, customs, flora and fauna. You won't regret spending part of a day with Antonio to explore outside of the city!!
Antonio picked us up in his SUV in the city of Guanajuato, and we were off for one of the most pleasant days of our trip. We drove up to the town of Santa Rosa to being our hike. We walked through the streets of this quaint town to the trailhead. The well maintained trail goes through a beautiful oak forest. Along the way Antonio pointed out different plants and the history of the area. We spoke in Spanish, but he also speaks English. The trail went to a spectacular vista point of the valley. We were two women traveling and we always felt safe on the trip. Walking through the country side and the conversations we had with Antonio gave us a more complete experience of Guanajuato. I highly recommend this tour.
