We were picked up at our hotel and taken to an area partway up the mombacho volcano, where there was a nice little rest area and coffee plantation. We then rode in another vehicle, with others up the very steep road to the top, which was an adventure in itself. Once there we hiked around the crater which was a lot of up and down, but had many interesting overlooks and plants. Our guide, Israel was very knowledgeable and patient with my slowness, which was much appreciated. We were very glad that we took the time toget a better understanding of the volcano that we had been looking at from afar.

Awful lying tour operator

The tour operator will deny the terrain difficulty when directly asked multiple times in advance. They will cut your tour by two hours for no reason. And refuse to accommodate travelers who are unable to participate due to this misrepresentation. $240 down the drain, time wasted

At the summit of the volcano, there are three trails marked by the biological station: easy, moderate, and difficult. For our Mombacho tour, we chose the easy trail, which is designed to be family-friendly and suitable for older adults. Many of our past guests—families with children and senior travelers—have thoroughly enjoyed this hike (see their positive reviews below). That said, during our visit, a 7-year-old girl and a 78-year-old woman chose not to complete the trail. We always recommend that participants have a basic level of physical fitness to fully enjoy the experience.
