Dai was a great quide - it was wonderful to get out into the countryside and explore an area of Japan that others may not venture to. We would definitely recomment this experience to others.

Dear Shirley, It was very nice meeting you. Thank you so much for writing a great review for the bike tour. Tokyo and Kyoto are beautiful places but the countryside of Japan is also worth visiting. I love my country and am proud of what I am doing here. Hope you will find another great place in the rural Japan when you come back. Warm Regards, Dai

Lovely trip in the countryside - just overpriced

Andrew_J, Jun 2024
This is a lovely part of the world and makes for a very nice trip. The countryside is beautiful and the guide speaks good English and is patient and helpful. The main reason for rating the trip 3 stars is the pricing is very expensive. At over 200 Australian dollars per person for 3 hours (and you need a train trip to get there from Takayama), it’s over priced. If it were closer to $100 I would thoroughly re on end it for a lovely day away from crowds in the mountains and rivers

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Dear Andrew, Thank you so much for coming and writing an honest opinion about the bike tour. The reason why we set the higher price than others is we are so proud of where we offer this tour. The destination of tour is a cluster of ten small Maze Riverside hamlets, each with a population of approximately 50 to 300 people, together collectively known as the “Maze Village”, which are regarded as some of the most beautiful authentic set of rural villages in Japan. Because it has no businesses specifically catering to tourists, the area is largely unknown and overlooked in the main guidebooks, though it’s close to the tourist towns like Takayama or Gero. The concept of tour is not just 3-hours bike tour in nature but escaping from major tourist areas to enjoy the difference from big cities and learn the local lifestyle with some informative insights provided by our guide. It was so shame that you felt it was overprice after joining the bike tour. However, we clearly describe these information on the tour detail page including price, duration of tour and that customers need to pay for the train ticket. We know price is so important but it is also very subjective. It depends on people how they feel about it. That is why we try our best as much as we can to avoid any misunderstandings between us and customers, and also to enable them to judge whether they should book or not. Hope you will understand our point and come back to Japan some day in the near future. Warm Regards, Dai

See Rural Japan

We saw a beautiful part of Japan off the beaten track. The electric bicycles were easy to ride and even an out-of-shape person like me was able to climb hills like a pro. The guide was informative and friendly, and he spoke good English. A unique experience.

Response from Host, Sep 2024

Dear Charles, Thank you so much for coming and writing a great review about the e-bike tour. The Panasonic e-bike is just amazing. It enables anyone to climb up steep hills so easily. We should be thankful to the provider. It must be one of the most compliments for us that the area is a beautiful part of Japan off the beaten track. Thanks again and hope you will come back to the area. Warm Regards, Dai

A pleasant experience, Dai is passionate about the envionment.

katey_G, Nov 2023
The bikes are esy to use and the tour leader met us on time. It is worth knowing in advance that Hida is quite far out of Takayama and there is a significant train journey both ways, although Dai did advise of how to get there after we booked, The route we rode was along a path beside the main highways, there were some good views but I had imagined a more rural experience.

E- bike ride through beautiful Japanese countryside

PHILIP_O, Oct 2023
We were met quickly after arrival at the train station. He took us to a garage where the bikes are stored. The bikes looked like being built primarily for male riders whereas we have 2 middle aged ladies. There was not a discussion about the suggested route before we left. Also he tended to ride on ahead of the group. It turned out he was planning for us to ride over to the next valley. We indicated that would be too difficult based on our experience. He quickly changed the plan and we had a super ride on quiet roads and paths, in wooded areas and farming country. The electric element helped greatly. The scenery is spectacular and we got many great photos. We returned to the meeting point on time. We had planned to get the train back straight away but it turned out there was a local fete with music, dancing and stalls- so we ended up spending 2 hours watching the local event before getting the train back to Takayama. Overall a good day but better planning of the trip before we started would have improved the overall experience.

Great Way to Experience Japan Outside the Cities

Robert_N, May 2023
The tour started at the Hida-Hagiwara station (45 minute drive from Takayama or 40 minutes by train). Dai met us at the station, oriented us to the bikes and we then headed for the scenic valley village of Maze on the other side of a mountain pass. Luckily the E-bikes were perfect for this purpose and nobody in our party of five had problems. We were also fortunate that the hamlet was holding their spring festival when we arrived so we were welcomed and got to enjoy some of the festivities. Having been to Tokyo and then the small city of Takayama, it was great to see and experience the local side of life in rural Japan. Highly recommend if you have the chance to take this tour.

Response from Host, May 2023

Dear Robert, Thank you so much for writing a very detailed review about the half day e-bike trip to the rural Maze Village. I also had a great time with your family, especially saw the local festival fortunately. Japan has a lot of aspects to see such as history and modernised big cities. In this bike tour, we take part of giving an opportunity to see and feel the real life in rural Japan. We are truly proud of beauty of Japan's countryside so I am so glad to hear that you really enjoyed that. I guess you really want to come back to Japan and I hope you will visit us or the village again. See you some time in the future! Warm Regards, Dai
