Roundtrip, the hike was a little over 11 miles. We were gifted an excellent local hiking guide, Rocio. He was an absolute gem as he had to balance out varying fitness levels within the entire group from advanced Swiss hikers to beginners from Florida (myself or maybe I am selling myself short lol). For those from much lower altitudes, altitude medication would be recommended for this experience. Wearing layers is a must. The morning started out with 70mph winds and a little chilly. As the day went on, it worked to our group's advantage removing layers because weather on the mountain can be quite unpredictable. Fortunately, it was sunny without a cloud in the sky so removing as many layers really helped. The tour company provided the group with a hiking pole if you do not travel with your own. Experiencing the Patagonia region was a once in a lifetime experience and I would go back and do it all over again. Next go around, I am interested in testing out the other hiking experiences to get different views of the landscape and Patagonia region.
Other important notes to consider:
1) Your hiking boots (consider water proof) will make or break you. I have fitted soles for my arches and brought extra hiking socks in case your socks get wet from changing weather conditions due to being on the mountain.
2) The glacier water is your resource to refill your water bottle in case you do not bring a large enough water supply for your hike. Your tour guide will share that it is safe to refill your water bottle from the glacier water. However, the glacier water does not carry the necessary minerals you need. However, I was scared that I would end up with traveler's diarrhea so I waited until I got back to Chalten to hydrate when my water supply was depleted. I did taste the water though which tasted very clean. Next time, I will bring a filter for my water bottle.
3) Don't for sunblock and SPF gear (hat, long sleeve shirt, water proof clothing, etc) to protect from the sun.

Hello Michael,
What a great read, thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review. We are very happy to hear the hike felt so rewarding and that the experience was positive for travelers with different fitness levels and backgrounds. It is wonderful to know the guiding and support on the trail helped make the day enjoyable and well managed despite the changing conditions.
We also really appreciate you passing along practical tips for future hikers. Patagonia is truly a special place, and it is great to hear it left such a strong impression and inspired you to come back for more.
Best regards

Juliette is a fantastic guide. A terrific hike, quite strenuous but really uplifting. We were lucky with the weather

An incredible journey, we got up the mountain by one face that allowed to see the piedras blancas glacier, then in the top of the view lake we were just astonished on the level of beauty of the Firz Roy in a nice clear sky. On the way back we went via lake Capri wich allow us to see the valley. We even spot a condor. Our guide Lisandro was always there sharing his knowledge and taking care of the group. An unique experience
